even if it is just a fantasy

smol-bon-bon  asked:

What made you wanna do drag?

I think drag is such a beautiful rebellious queer artform that meshes so many things that I love about art - performance, makeup, aesthetics, a telling of whatever story you want to tell. It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid, and quite frankly, did as a kid but I considered it cosplay but looking back, I was totally doing drag.

In its origins, it enabled queer people to live a fantasy they couldn’t live due to the restrictions and prejudice the LGBT+ community faced. It gave homeless queer people an ability to make a buck for food while also feeling beautiful and fabulous. It’s not just getting on stage, and doing a death drop. Yes a lot of it is performance, and nowadays drag is huge because of mainstream tv shows. But it started as a “fuck you” at cisheteronormative standards placed upon queer people, it was always us questioning what gender even meant and breaking down those walls of the gender binary and gender roles. It was always us sharing our own intimate queer experience with our community.

I’m talking about drag as the artform. Naturally, with how big drag is, there are people who will be misogynistic, transphobic, etc but these people do not represent drag or what drag has done for SO many people and certainly 100% go against the founders of the art. I’m really fortunate to be in Miami cause the drag scene down here is so vast in its representation. All shapes, all races, all ethnicities, all gender identities, everything. They embrace with open arms whatever fantasy you want to create and immediately denounce those who try to be racist/transphobic/misogynistic/lesbophobic/biphobic/etc literally any type of prejudice is 100% not tolerated. That’s the drag community I know and the only one I’m ever willing to be a part of.

I started drag because I love theater, and I love costuming. But the draw that I had to drag was different than the draw I have for theater or constructing an outfit. Plays/Musicals don’t fulfill me in the same way Drag does and it’s because of that unique queer experience I mentioned earlier. I don’t see Andro Gin as a role, but as a facet that I couldn’t ordinarily express. I know they look like a creature, and is camp but there’s a lot of realness and truth behind his persona that’s very embedded in who I am as a person. I’m comfortable being AFAB so this isn’t me coming out as trans/nonbinary but I think as queer people there’s always more going on under the surface that’s more complex when it comes to our gender expression than cishetero individuals could understand. The friends and community I’ve gained from this art I’ll cherish forever. Their stories, their fantasy, their talent, has been such a treat to be a part of and cheerlead. And then to have that love reciprocated back? It’s just been an incredible ride.

Sweet Galadhian Lullaby

Based on an IG story done by Johan Akan on IG and of course one of my enablers, @atlerion, decided to plant this little idea in my head while I got several wips to finish. Oh well lol. Aethera is the feminine version of the Greek Goddess Nyx’ son. Thought it was a fitting name.

Summary: Nyx sings a lullaby to calm you and your daughter Aethera down.

You closed your eyes as you bounced your daughter in your arms, the little baby girl wailing while tugging on your long dark curls. “Ssssh, sssh, little one. Sssh, mama is here. Mama is here,” you kept murmuring over and over again as you had tried everything; changed her diaper, gave her kisses, tried to feed her, but she didn’t seem to want to latch on. You had given her toys to play with, turned on the television on some baby program. Nothing.

My MC is half blind - I feel like I have plenty of knowledge about blindness, seeing as I'm blind in my right eye, and so can present the struggles pretty accurately. However, I'm not sure how to let my reader know my MC's disability without saying it outright. My novel is also fantasy/historically based, so my MC is facing these struggles without modern technology/science. Any tips? (P.S Love your blog💕)

Hi, love!  Thanks for your question <3

Personally, I think you could just come out and say it.  With some disabilities – especially mental or developmental disabilities – it can be hard to state in historical fiction or fantasy, just because they don’t have words for it/education about it.  But blindness is fairly easy to communicate to a reader.  Even if you can’t use the word “blind,” saying that the character was “sightless” or simply “could not see in one eye” is quick and clear.  Plus, it keeps ableists from erasing your disabled character!

You could go metaphorical (”half his world was darkness” etc.) but it may come out more angsty/confusing than you’re going for.  So my advice would be to be blunt about it.  Tell us he’s blind in one eye and reference it later, and that should be sufficient!

I hope this helps :)  Good luck, and happy writing!

The Monster Mash

So! I’m doing a writing thing for October, mainly as a way to challenge myself.

Basically, it’s exactly what it says on the tin - for the month of October, I’m writing monster stories. It may be fantasy au with dragons and wizards, it may be horror au with demons and darkness, it can be whatever the hell I can come up with. There’s no schedule or real rhyme to it; I just write however many monster stories I can for the month of October, and at the end I tally them up and see just how much I was able to get done.

If you’d like to participate even for just a week, you’re more than welcome to! I just thought it be fun to try something new.

So far, I have the following ideas for ‘monster’ prompts. Feel free to throw additional ideas at me, as sometimes I overlook the basics.

- All Midoriya wanted was to live out his life in the forest, but at some point a puppy-like werewolf and an obnoxiously temperamental dragon barged into his life and now he can’t find a way to kick them out, and his home is disturbingly beginning to feel like their home. What’s a forest witch to do?

- Everyone in Class 1-A is some kind of monster, creature or otherwise “inhuman” being. Izuku Midoriya is one of the rare exceptions - he’s an honest, true human. His classmates might be… a little bit possessive of him. A smidgen, really.

- God of Chaos!Aizawa falls to Earth after a war between himself and the God of Light, gets found by a pair of orphans, nursed back to health, and now works to repay their kindness in turn.

- Mermaid/Siren!Izuku - Izuku is the last Mer alive, and one of the oldest. He meets Bakugou when the boy’s barely up to his elbow, and the youth saves him from poachers after stranding him on a beach. When the events of the USJ come about, he shows Tomura that there’s a reason his people were feared for so long.

- Everyone likes to tease Kaminari about the downside of his Quirk being overused - what they don’t realize is that downside goes away when Kaminari gets serious, and that his powers aren’t a Quirk - they’re a Godhood in the making.

- Being a Necromancer is tiring, just ask Izuku Midoriya. A stranger in a land full of Quirks, he is one of the last remaining humans with magic in his veins, and he uses that magic to help solve murders that might otherwise fall through the cracks.

- (Anon suggested) The Midoriya family are Zenko kitsune; Bakugou are Yako kitsune. Needless to say, there’s a lot of bickering.

modern fantasy OC: faerie who got stuck in the mortal world and started cooking for people because then of course they would have eaten his food and Owe him. It didn’t actually do anything much, he wasn’t even self-employed so it wasn’t even his food per se. Just a comfort thing for a very lost elf in the world of iron. But then he started to care about the food? Got really invested in first the differences between the sauces at this fast food joint, then recreating them at home, then having his own cooking show on YouTube, while working in an actual restaurant…Eventually you get this like Michelin 5-Star restaurant where the Head Chef is a Sidhe knight with Opinions about pickling and the best way to stir a broth, and an encyclopedic knowledge of every flavoring herb in this world and others. He co-owns the place but the only glamour he ever throws on customers is to give the chandeliers an extra twinkle. The food must stand on its own merit. All the instruments in his kitchen are plastic or wood or copper; no iron or even much steel.

Temptation. I struggle with this every single freaking day. And every single freaking day I lose… in August I started working in a bakery, and at the end of the day we reduced the price on all the items that go bad the next day in an effort to sell them. That means 12$ cakes get marked down to 1.25$ or 6$ cheesecakes go to .60 cents… and ya girl always keeps change. I’ve tried EVERYTHING to stop my daily sweet binges, i.e. Leaving my card at home, Bringing my own lunch, and even just will power. I clock in today in a few hours and I have a new weapon to fighting of the sweet fantasies.. my journal! I plan to write about every time I get a craving, hopefully it will distract me enough. Wish me luck !

True Story: She didnt even ask about a condom as i went in her raw, yes i just picked her up off a corner and didnt know anything about her accept she was a hot young prostitute. She only agreed to head and even sucked the cheese, i couldnt cum right away so i made her spit on it as i rubbed it all over her face than slowly fucking her mouth, but still couldnt cum and she was in a rush to get me off, I fingered her as she was sucking me so her panties were already down. I knew the only way to get off was the thought of fullfilling a fantasy. And she was my perfect image (skanky, skinny, blonde) I hope you didn’t give me an asian baby she said. I didnt care, i mastrubate to random dirty sluts every night. Her allowing me to take her raw, I had to play out my fantasy and cum inside a complete stranger. I drive past the corner occasionaly, but havent seen her since

How about YA? Or any really good magic-related fiction? I read the Bone Gap because of you and I loved it. I'm looking to read 3 books before the year ends so anything you suggest would be lovely. If the book stuck with you I'd love to hear about them :)

Hmmm… how about

  • Orleans by Sherri Smith (dystopian/post-apocalyptic scifi)
  • York by Laura Ruby (this is MG, which I’ve been reading more than YA in the last year tbh, and kind of steampunky/alternate science timeline scifi-fantasy?)
  • Leia, Princess of Alderaan by Claudia Gray (honestly, even if you aren’t into Star Wars, this is just a really solid YA book full of political intrigue – much more of a political thriller than a scifi, except, you know, space)
  • Who’s That Girl by Blair Thornburgh (YA contemp; carte blanche, I helped to edit it and it’s cute)
  • Breadcrumbs and The Real Boy, both by Anne Ursu, both of which are MG fantasy/magic/loosely fairytale retellings
  • Genuine Fraud by e.lockhart, of course
  • Infandous by Elana K. Arnold, contemp, but heavy trigger warnings – it’s kind of a YA Lolita told from Dolores’ point of view in the aftermath. The writing is beautiful.
  • The Murder of Bindy Mackenzie by Jaclyn Moriarty, which is YA contemp and has a truly effervescent word-level, sentence-level language (and isn’t REALLY about murder?)
  • Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova (fantasy), The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (contemp), mmm… if you haven’t read The Diviners by Libba Bray yet, that’s fantasy-horror and a big big rec from me, although I had some issues with the sequel… I’m trying to think of any magic/fantasy/fantasy-scifi that I’ve really liked lately and there hasn’t been much in a *while*. That might be because I’ve had Grad School Brain and then Work Brain on, though, and it’s harder to not nitpick things that I KNOW I would otherwise really be enjoying!

I’m trying to think what else I’ve read lately that wasn’t for work and wasn’t adult nonfiction or crappy mystery… since I’ve been reading SO MUCH kidlit at work, I’ve been leaning more into reading not-kidlit outside of work while my brain tries to digest. If you ever read nonfiction and you want to read some nonfiction about fantasy/the paranormal, I recommend Deborah Blum’s The Ghost Hunters?

anonymous asked:

i know that chell isn't white, but i'm curious why she has blue eyes? i thought only white people have blue eyes? unless its one of those sci fi fantasy things where the person has a weird eye color

Well, looking at pictures of Alésia Glidewell, her eyes seem to be more green, so it might just be that when the devs put Alésia’s features onto Chell, they messed with the lighting or saturation of her eyes because they looked a bit off on the model.
Plus, if Chell (or even Alésia) does have blue eyes, it’s not much of a sci-fi/fantasy sort of thing. People who aren’t white can still have blue eyes, usually related to either mixed genetics in their families or a mutation where the eyes lack melanin.

I cannot possibly emphasize what a constant trial it is being friends with me.

I love every fanfiction author on earth !!! Thank you so much for using your own time to provide us with a free(!) story to read that is 10x better than every book I have read put in one!

For long fic writers: Your detailed fics are so amazing and you amaze me every single time with the amount of research and time you have put into your beautiful works! Whether I am looking to kill time or just want something to distract me you have provided me with that, and I am so glad we have writers like you!

For short fic writers: Your fluffy/angsty/smutty/all of the above fics are so nice to read after a long day! When I just need something small because I don’t have the energy for something long, you wrote something for yourself and shared it with us, and I am so glad that we have writers like you!

If you write fluff; Thank you so much! I love reading your self-indulgent fics. They are so sweet and adorable and those characters definitely would do that.

If you write angst; Thank you so much! I love reading your painful fics. I’m always excited to see how it will end and if things will ever get better.

If you write smut; Thank you so much! I love reading your own fantasies(or realities, or just what you chose to write). They make me smile and blush.

If you write romance; Thank you so much! I love reading about my otp falling in love over and over. Even if it is cliché, it’s also unique and I’m still  surprised each time.

If you write about platonic relationships; Thank you so much! I love reading about my favorite best friends and siblings. You bring something not often seen and your courage is amazing.

If you write crack; Thank you so much! I love reading your random fics. They make me laugh time and time again and even if they are weird and ooc, they are amazing too.

If you write anything else; THANK YOU SO MUCH! Whatever it is you write, it is amazing and I love it.

I know my singular opinion doesn’t mean much when there are millions of people on this earth, but I want it to be heard!

Pokémon CEO on The New Pokémon Game for Switch and the Future of the Franchise:

  • “With the Switch, we see it as a chance to create Pokémon that goes deeper and with a higher level of expression. As a result, that makes it an extremely important platform.”
  • “Right now we’re using 7 to 8 inch screens, but on a high-definition TV you can express a whole different world with graphics and sound.”
  • “Until now, games were made as one for one person, but now you can go home and play with everyone – so how do we tackle these themes, and how do we make sure it’s not complicated?”
  • “I can’t say that we’ll release accessories, but I’d like to think of that possibility.”
  • “Unlike smartphones, the Switch is not a game device that assumes that there’s constant network connectivity. So from our perspective, it’s really not that different from DS or 3DS in terms of connectivity.”

Ishihara also spoke at length about augmented reality, a technology that superimposes virtual characters and scenes onto real-world images. He said that this fits well with the Pokémon company’s vision of blending fantasy with reality, as Pokémon Go did as a location-based game.

  • “With current AR, even if you say Pikachu is there, no one really thinks that. But that reality is just one step away. For example, you’ll be able to find Pikachu, and it can sense this table and jump on it, and you can see its shadow on the table, and then it faces you and starts talking to you. We will see the birth of this reality that is another step up from the current Pokémon Go. And I’ve only mentioned the visual aspect, but you can add haptic and rumble technology to that.”
  • “Voice-activated assistants are increasing. Whether it is Google Home or Amazon or Apple Homepod, there are many of them and we could see these dialogue-based devices give birth of a new form of entertainment.”
  • “Switch is just one of the possible platforms. I think we will open up more possibilities from all these platforms. Playing in a more realistic way should be possible.”
