So I had a workshop with Eugene Ughetti this afternoon.
For the majority of you who don’t know who he is he is the director of Speak Percussion, a Melbourne based new music percussion group. In the 11 years he’s been running Speak Percussion he has commissioned around 70 new works, written new works himself, has collaborated with architects, instruments builders, chefs, astronomers and glass makers (to name a few) to establish himself as one of Australia’s most prominent new music practitioners. This is all while touring the world playing works in front of every type of audience conceivable.
He had really great things to say particularly about the composition of music, thought processes, financial options, mindsets etc, and his ideas have really got my brain juices flowing.
Started writing as soon as I got home. We’ll see if I can actually get anywhere.
