etheldrea holmes

The Holmes Family Portrait circa 2009

This picture was going to happen whether or not anyone wanted it to. Uncle Mycroft was always busy, and she and dad had cases. But then Grandmother showed up out of the blue one day and quite literally dragged Etheldrea from the flat and into a car. A moment later, she was doing the same to Sherlock. Then they left and stopped outside Mycroft’s office, and he was all ready waiting outside rather than face the embarrassment of his mother going in and dragging him from his work. After all her children, and her grandchild, had been picked up, Mummy Holmes instructed the driver to the train station and soon all were on their way to the elder Holmes house. Upon arrival, the camera was set up, and Daddy Holmes was ready to go. The brothers were not amused with the situation, however Etheldrea found it hilarious.

“Dad?” she asked, “Why don’t I have a Mum?”

He almost dropped the beakers in his hands, and carefully set them down. He smiled, forced at Etheldrea, picked her up and set her on his bed.

“Give me a moment and I’ll come back with an answer, alright?”

Part 1 of 2

Moriarty shows Etheldrea the truth.

Inside was a birth certificate, two actually, and each were completely identical except for one thing, the name.

“I don’t understand.”

“What’s not to understand? You were a mistake. Your father didn’t even want you.”

He never stopped smiling, taking joy in watching her life fall apart.

Etheldrea Learns About Her Dad

When Lestrade let go, she turned away for a moment, straightened herself up and put on a stiff-upper lip. She grabbed her notebook and pen, and then turned to Lestrade.

“I’m terribly sorry for wasting your time, Inspector. I’ll be off now.”

“Ethel …” he sighed.

She turned and walked to Mycroft, ignoring Donovan and Anderson, the latter of which was looking as though he himself had killed Sherlock. She kept her face expressionless as she followed Mycroft out to his car, ignoring all the pitying looks she received.
