Meet my new little girl Esther! She’s a lovely little common barn owl, (the UK subspecies), Tyto alba alba. Despite her small size she’s managed to do more damage to me than my hawk Nala and I’ve only had her two days. (She wasn’t happy about being picked up from her lovely aviary and being shoved into a box for the journey to her new home bless her). Owls are pretty useless falconry wise but they are wonderfully beautiful animals to keep.

I’m unsure on the laws in other countries, but for people wondering: it is legal to keep barn owls in the UK, but only with relevant paperwork. This particular species for example needs an A10 certificate and must have a breeders ring.
