Thank you to the anon who suggested the idea  and @mieczyslawstilestate & @celestallison for helping me form some of my ideas and read parts, especially the dark parts, you are both blessing to this world.

i literally dont understand how hard it is for taylor swift to just own up and apologize for the things she’s done like nobody has said that, for example, in the kanye situation that he hasn’t also done some bad things, but the things people are mad at taylor for are completely valid reasons that she either tries to excuse or never mentions at all. she’s going for this whole reclaiming her image brand but?? that’s implying she’s done nothing to deserve the image she’s gotten over the past year or so which is not true. when will taylor apologize for her actions that are basically the definition of white feminism like not understanding the struggles of black people (especially women) and being friends with lena dunham?? when will taylor apologize for constantly making herself the victim with her exes (even after we’ve heard the other side and learned she exaggerated) and everything with kanye that was literally recorded?? like @taylorswift nobody’s gonna feel bad for you because we know you’ve seen the snake comments and all the articles written. every lie you’ve told, every fan you’ve manipulated, every situation you twisted into your favor has led up to the general public realizing you’re not who you say you are. maybe people can learn to forgive and move on if you maybe spoke about it in a mature manner and apologized, but now you’re dedicating your entire album and promo to this instead of things you might actually want to create, and we’ve still not heard an apology. you literally wrote shake it off but apparently care so much about what people say you’re going the this whole thing is inspired by the hate i get route. can you really be surprised that no one wants to support you??

also you should probably get someone else to design your album covers

Hello sweeties! Sometimes we need our days off, whether it’s a cold or a burnout. But as someone with anxiety, there were moments I was worried too much about the work i’d have to catch up, instead of using the day to relax. Now I can finally be calm when I’m absent, so here are my tips ♥

Contact your teacher:
When I had to be away from school because of anything other than sickness, I always made sure to send an email to my teacher. Especially when I knew it was a busy week. This can get you ahead of work and show you’re responsible.

Talk to your classmates:
Call or text a responsible friend or the class representative (if you have one) so they can tell you what you’ve missed, what homework teachers have left, etc. Ask about class, tips, presentations, dates, exams, handouts or anything else that could’ve been mentioned.

Back in school:
If by any reason you can’t contact your teacher or your friends, make sure to ask your teacher to give you any material she handed out while you were away, and borrow a friend’s notes. This is important because teachers usually repeat (in the lecture) or write down (on the board) what will be on the test.

Catch up as soon as possible:
When you have everything you need, start work right away. Don’t procrastinate, especially now because work will start to pile up and we don’t want that now do we?

Getting back on track:
here’s a vid that could help you: getting your life together. This is the time to get your post-its, planner, calendars and everything organization so you don’t miss anything.

Check your priorities:
There’s a few teachers that didn’t tell me to catch up on practice work or things we’ll keep doing throughout the month. Talk to them and maybe they’ll give you more time or duplicate a grade from your next text, especially if you’re good at the subject.

Don’t forget new assignments :
Is your new assignment for tomorrow and your catch-up work for next week? you know which one to do first. Make yourself a schedule, grab a snack, and work slowly but steadily.

*I wrote each one of these personally, so please don’t repost. I hope this helps you, and remember being absent doesn’t have to mean anxiety! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate on messaging me ^_^ © freepic icon

((LOVED THIN ICE! SO MUCH! Especially how you got that whitewashing moment in! Also have questions! Like; was there a temptation to make a stronger reference to 11 & River's date to that same Frost Fair? Or would that have taken too much away from *this* story?))

Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it. ◕ ◡ ◕  I wrote a reference to the birthday date with River but it got cut. It came in the montage sequence on the ice at the start of the episode when Bill is running around trying everything. She twigs that the Doctor has been to the frost fair before and he replies, “Oh yes. A few times.” A stunned Bill absorbs that and we cut to:

The scene might have actually been filmed (not sure) but I do understand why it was cut. You said it yourself - the important thing here is to focus on the present-day story. A mention of River doesn’t move the plot forward, or even advance Bill’s understanding of the Doctor to a significant degree, especially compared to the more solemn things she comes to understand about his past just minutes later.

There might even be another reason it was cut. Perhaps Steven decided Bill should learn about River in some other way further into the series. If not, then if you want to you can always extrapolate from the Doctor’s “Oh yes. A few times”, and assume that Twelve took the opportunity to tell Bill about his wife in between scenes.

i like how people are looking at my joseph analysis and either thing its 100% canon or garbage and horrible and that im just trying to make joseph out to be a villain and that i think robert and mary have no flaws themselves

so have another analysis mostly focused on mary’s issues

this is just my theory guys i never stated anything in there to be canon mary could be an alcoholic for a completely different reason that doesnt relate to josephs cheating in the slightest but i find it hard to believe joseph would settle down with someone he’s fully away has a dependency on alcohol and for years outright do nothing about it to help her especially considering hes a christian youth minister.

it might have something to do with mary mentioning “this isnt my first rodeo, it’s my 5th” which hints that mary has given birth 5 times or shes calling joseph a manchild which would be absolutely savage of her to do right in front of his fucking face

so it leads me to believe she’s either

  • insulting joseph
  • has had a 5th child before that she either had to give up or it died at a young age
  • miscarried
  • or if the cult ending is real she gave birth to a literal demon at one point

“but travis, she says she gave birth to only four!!!”

c-sections are a thing you guys, she only really mentioned natural birth when she says “squeezed four little”

if she miscarried, lost the child when it was young, or had to give up one of her children, it would definitely hurt her quite a bit. she would most likely resort to self-destructive behavior as a result.

and ive got a lot of people wondering why mary would become friends with robert knowing that he’s slept with joseph. she must not know, right? otherwise she’d just hate robert, right?

nah man

mary’s smart, she pay attention to her surroundings. but she’s not a snitch. she most like did confront robert about it after she put the pieces together but robert was most likely still distraught after being thrown aside by joseph and she couldn’t help but feel bad for him. mary’s an extremely compassionate woman, i dont feel like after getting a full explanation from robert that she’d hate him.

she knows because she figured out on her own, assumed robert was the one who seduced joseph only to find out that joseph did the same thing to robert he did to the main dad; got close, told you that his marriage was over, slept with you, and turned around after not talking to you for a long time and saying that he and mary were gonna work things out.

mary resents joseph for not telling her what he did with robert, even after being aware that she knows what he’s doing and being aware of his lies, pretending that he’s only being nice and happy around mc dad just to get them into bed with him.

the way he acts really does take a toll on her and her coping mechanism is to drink and flirt with other men. it’s 100% not healthy and not something she should be doing to herself but its the only way she knows how to keep her marriage and really theyre only staying together for the sake of their kids. they’re all still extremely young, one being autistic as well. it’d be way too much on all four of them to divorce just out of the blue, especially when the children clearly love their parents very much even if we dont see mary interacting with he children in the story.

while joseph is off doing all his dates and organizing church stuff she’s most likely with the children. she doesn’t seem like the type to just avoid her parental duties when she knows her husband isnt going to be around. if she knows joseph is going to be home she’ll go and volunteer at the animal shelter, go hang out with robert, or just drink alone. she wants to detach herself from the world and try to keep her mind off of josephs infidelity.

keep in mind in the cult ending dialogue she does say “you ruined my life” we could piece that together with joseph just being a demon and forcing mary into the cult, but it can only tie to where her drinking problem comes in with joseph being the cause for her addiction. she’s fully aware that she shouldn’t be drinking as much as she is, but she’s become dependent on it since she cant leave joseph.

mary has her faults absolutely but to demonize her completely just from your first impressions of her isn’t fair. we get the first impression that joseph is a kind man who will bake with you and bring you cookies, but if we pull back a few layers, we can start to see something sinister in that pink polo shirt just like we can find a kindhearted but hurt woman when we look into mary’s wine glass.

mary definitely loves joseph, she most likely met him when he was still a sailor and they got together at a young age, she probably got pregnant which forced them to get married, lost the child in some way which started her drinking problem and then her husband started being unfaithful before they even had their first child. val is at least in her mid to late twenties, robert lost his wife around when she was getting ready to go to college, so if robert was josephs first offense (which i really dont feel like it is), joseph has been doing this for a very long time when you think about their childrens ages.

all in all please dont hate mary, she has been through a lot you dont have to agree with her coping mechanism but you also shouldn’t throw her under the bus for her self-destructive behavior.

Good for him - Dean Winchester x Reader

Title: Good for him

Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader, Castiel x Reader (a lil less)

Warnings: None

Summary: Imagine being Lucifer’s daughter and Dean and Sam taking you in, but being faced with suspicion from Dean’s side. As time goes by he realized it’s only his way of defence because his hunter insticts tell him you are going to turn evil like your father one day but he has only started falling hard for you. Only it’s too late because you seem to be in love with Cas, who has been nicer to you all along, and he’s lost any chance he could ever have with you. Or so he thinks.

A/N: It’s not clear who Reader really wants, although it leans towards Dean, there’s plenty of both in it.

Dean Winchester was never one to have much faith in his life. He was never one to hope that there was someone, God or Chuck whatever it was, that cared about him and anything he or the rest of humanity went through. He never was one to have faith that things would get better for him and his family, what was left of it. He was never one to hope he could have a chance out one day. He never was one to even let himself dream of a perfect life with a good enough girl by his side. One to love him without return, one to smile even in the darkest of moments and offer him a shoulder to lean on. One that he could look right in the eyes and feel his heart swell with real happiness and love, one he had yet to experience in his life. He never even had faith he could deserve her and all of that to begin with. Yet he had stumbled right upon her and didn’t even know it at first.

But he was so caught up in his grief and pain, so caught up with thinking like a warrior, putting everybody else before him and his feelings that he almost turned himself into a machine. He kept his mind occupied, thinking and calculating what was best, that he almost didn’t realize it had started happening. He almost forgot his feelings were there until he realized it and it was all too late.

“Hey, did you even hear a word I said?” Sam asked with a perplexed look and Dean blinked, looking up from his beer at the younger man with a frown.

“Huh what?” he blinked and Sam let out a sigh, leaning back in his chair.

“Alright, what is it this time?” he crossed his arms over his chest and Dean gave him a look.

Pulsar’s 10 Favorite Anime Of 2016

It’s time for my Top 10 Favorite Anime Of 2016 List!

A few things to keep in mind:

1. Im not including any sequel series (which means Sound Euphonium 2 and Food Wars: The Second Plate arent on my list, although theyre both great shows and definitely worth checking out).

2. This is strictly my opinion. If you dont see a show you liked on here, Im not bashing it or saying its not any good.

3. Im only including shows I watched all the way through to the end. There are some shows I didnt get a chance to finish like Mob Psycho 100, Orange and Shouwa Genroku that I need to revisit.

With that all said, here we go with the Honorable Mentions!

—-

HONORABLE MENTION #1: PLEASE TELL ME, GALKO-CHAN!

This is a really fun series of comedy shorts revolving around three high school girls: an otaku, a gyaru (think the Japanese equivalent of a valley girl) and a sweet but airheaded rich girl. Most of the humor is sex-related and yet the show never feels mean-spirited. Definitely worth checking out if you want something quick to watch and laugh at.

HONORABLE MENTION #2: MAGICAL GIRL RAISING PROJECT

Dark takes on the “magical girl” genre have become more and more commonplace in the aftermath of Madoka Magica. This show revolves around a mobile app game that allows you to create your own magical girl, and gives 1 in 10,000 players the ability to become a real-life superhero. But soon things take a dark and violent turn.

What separates this show from the pack is the sheer variety of powers and abilities that it features. All the girls (and one guy) have different motivations for wanting to be a superhero, and their powers are diverse and interesting. Dont let the cute art fool you: this is NOT for young kids.

HONORABLE MENTION #3: SHE AND HER CAT - EVERYTHING FLOWS

The only reason I wound up not including this show in my top ten is because its literally 4 five minute episodes. But man does it pack a punch, especially if you love animals.

This is a short series about a young woman and her aging pet cat. The show is entirely from the point of view of the cat, and you see how he views the world and how he views his owner with unconditional love. If youve ever owned a pet, take the time to watch this one.

And now its time for my Top 10 Anime of 2016. Here we go!

#10: MYRIAD COLORS PHANTOM WORLD

KyoAni’s first series of 2016 was this overlooked fun little fantasy gem about a near future in which a virus has caused people to be able to perceive extra-dimensional and paranormal beings around them. The main characters are four students of a special school for students with special abilities who can seal off and fight phantoms, or in some cases help them resolve their unfinished business so they can move on.

This show got a lot of attention early on in 2016 and just as fast seemed to drop off the radar, mostly because people seemed disappointed that it wasnt a darker/more “serious” show. But thats okay. Sometimes I just want to be entertained. And Myriad Colors does that.

#9: KONOSUBA - GOD’S BLESSING ON THIS WONDERFUL WORLD!

Konosuba is the first of two “trapped in a fantasy world” anime series on my Top 10 list. This is a trope that has been done to death, but where this one won me over was in the sheer irreverence it has for its own genre.

The main character, after dying in a rather embarrassing fashion, is magically transported to a fantasy world by a goddess who turns out to be a bit of a screw-up. In order to find work in this new world, he assembles a motley crew including a masochistic knight and a mage who only want to blow things up. Sound ridiculous? It is. And it’s absolutely hilarious.

KONOSUBA returns for a 2nd season starting this month, so you have time to catch up before then!

#8: IZETTA THE LAST WITCH

In an alternate version of World War II, the archduchess of a small country about to invaded by the Germans is kidnapped… but is then rescued by her childhood friend, who turns out to be the last witch on Earth. The witch volunteers her help in defending her friend’s country from the invaders, and soon the tide has turned in a BIG way.

Do you like watching WWII-era dogfights? Imagine one with a witch flying around using a giant rifle as a broom and blowing Nazi planes out of the sky. If that doesn’t sound cool to you, I don’t know what to say. Check this one out if you like badass female leads and awesome action sequences.

#7: KIZNAIVER

Studio TRIGGER (Kill La Kill) returned in 2016 with this sci-fi series about a group of teenagers who are forced to be part of an experiment linking them emotionally. This show connected (see what I did there) with me on multiple levels. Adolescence can be an insanely painful part of life, and many people never move on past the things that are done and said to them during this time. The characters on this show, even if they aren’t always likeable, are always UNDERSTANDABLE. I genuinely felt for all of them and wanted them to end up OK. If you like sci-fi but want something different, give this one a go.

#6: 91 DAYS

This is another great series that seemed to fly under the radar this year. I never heard many of my friends who are into anime talking about this one, and its a shame, because this show is something special.

91 DAYS is set during Prohibition and is about a young man whose entire family is murdered by the Mafia. Seven years later, while in hiding, he receives a letter giving him the names of the men responsible, and he begins to work his way into the family in order to destroy it from the inside out.

This is a fantastic revenge story, with some twists and turns you won’t expect and a darkness to it that stuck with me a long time after it ended.

#5: PLANETARIAN

“I am just a little broken…”

Prepare to have your heart a LOT broken.

PLANETARIAN takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where hostile machines have taken over the Earth. A “junker” is scavenging for supplies in a department store when he is greeted by the android mascot of the store’s rooftop planetarium… who has been in stasis for years and has no idea what has happened to the world. The junker initially wants nothing to do with her but realizing he has nowhere to go decides to hide out in the planetarium for a while, and soon gets roped into fixing the projector so the android can present the show to any guests who may show up.

If you like your sci-fi with a healthy dose of feels, check this one out. Its only 5 episodes long but it stuck with me long after I watched it, and I’ll likely be coming back to rewatch it many times in the future.

#4: YURI!!! ON ICE

Yes, an anime about gay male figure skaters made my top 10 list? Why? Because its an awesome goddamn show, that’s why.

After suffering a complete meltdown at the previous World Finals, Yuri has given up on skating and has decided to come home to Japan. No sooner has he returned than his idol, a Russian figure skater named Victor, shows up at his doorstep… wanting to become his coach.

This show is consistently fun to watch, with great animation, some incredible skating sequences, and arguably the best romantic couple of the year in anime. And tell me the opening song doesn’t get you pumped, and I’ll call you a lying sack of shit. Yuri On Ice is awesome. Watch it. Like, now.

—–

My top 3 is where it gets tricky, because any of these next three shows could have been my #1. I’d rank them all at the top in terms of quality, so I’m going with them in the order of which ones had the most emotional impact on me personally.

#3: KABANERI OF THE IRON FORTRESS

If you liked Attack On Titan, this is better. Yes, I said it. I love Attack On Titan, but this is a better show.

Set in an alternate timeline during the Industrial Revolution in Japan, a virus causes people to transform into walking corpses who soon overrun the entire country. Humans are forced to barricade themselves in walled cities and use armor-plated trains to travel from fortress to fortress. One day, in the middle of his home being overrun by the “kabane,” a young engineer who has been working on a new steam-powered weapon designed to defeat the monsters is bitten by one of them… but instead of transforming all the way, he becomes a kabaneri, a human/kabane hybrid. He joins up with a fellow female kabaneri and the survivors of his fallen city in an attempt to make their way to safety on board one of the armored trains.

This show is essentially a nonstop chase sequence through the first half, and political intrigue comes into play halfway through. If you like nonstop action, gore and terror, this is your ticket to ride.

#2: RE:ZERO
I watched the first episode of this show the day after it aired, got bored, and didn’t come back to it…until about three months later, when I kept hearing people talk about the show and how it was affecting them. While on a road trip I decided to give it another shot, and ended up binge-watching the entire series in one go. It’s that good.

RE:ZERO is about a young man who, after shopping at a convenience store, suddenly finds himself in a fantasy world straight out of the games and shows he loves. While initially thrilled to be there, he finds out rather quickly that he is completely out of his element and ends up dying a rather grisly death… only to find himself back where he started from when he first showed up in the new world. It turns out that he has the ability to come back after dying to a certain “save point” (which changes over time), and while no one around him remembers the previous timeline, he does.

So, all good right? No matter what happens you can come back and fix it? Well, not so fast. Imagine falling in love with someone only for them to not remember who you are or things you’ve talked about. Imagine seeing the people you care about die over and over again because you keep messing up. Imagine making mistakes, thinking you can fix them by dying… and coming back further along in the timeline and NOT being able to undo them.

This show takes all the issues I usually have with the “transported to a fantasy world” genre and not only addresses them but essentially makes them the focus of the show. The main character alternates between being funny and likeable and selfish and arrogant, and while he can be hard to like at times, he’s easy to understand and identify with. The supporting characters are fantastic (including arguably my favorite female character of the year, Rem the demon maid) and the story has many twists and turns, with many more to come as the show has been confirmed for second season.

I’ve never been so glad that I gave an anime a second chance as I am with RE:ZERO. Definitely check this one out.

#1: ERASED

Imagine this: when you’re a child, two of your friends and a third child you don’t know but is in your class are murdered. You were the last person to see the third victim alive, but didn’t do or say anything, and you have felt guilty ever since.

Since then, you have had a curse: every once in a while, you will relive the same three to five minutes over and over again, Groundhog Day style, until you change something. It might mean pushing someone out of the way of a car, it might mean stopping a purse snatcher. But you are stuck until you fix what needs to be fixed.

Now imagine, after coming home to find a loved one murdered, you are blamed for the crime and are about to be arrested when you feel that same “rewind” effect happening… only when you open your eyes, it is 1988, you are 11 years old walking to school (but with your 29 year old mind intact), and the murders from your childhood are about to happen again.

What would you do?

ERASED is the best anime of 2016. No other show excited me, terrified me, made me think, made me cry, or made me remember as much as this show did. Even if you don’t like anime, watch this show. It’s my #1 for a reason.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my list! If you see a favorite of yours from 2016 that’s missing, shoot me a message and I’ll check it out!

anonymous asked:

When Star was confessing, she said that the only reason she hadn't done it before was because she knew Marco didn't feel the same way. She didn't mention the fact that he was dating Jackie as one of the reasons. So, even if Marco and Jackie break up, why people think that Marco will return Star's feelings?

Why people think that Marco will return Star’s feelings?

Hard to answer to this question without being biased, and without using “meta” reasons. Because Marco, so far -things could change- has a completely different relationship with Star compared to anyone else, even Jackie; because of many elements in the show suggesting that a romantic Starco might happen and be important to the plot itself; because Jackie was “a first crush”, and the show is very focused on growing and making experiences, and as such she might be just a ‘step’ (please don’t see this as me trying to underestimate Jackie’s character!) in Marco’s growth; because Sleepover, the episode that kickstarted the romance plot in the season, had the theme of changing feelings, and featured a Jackie that started crushing on Marco, noticing him, only after his confession, and this might parallel Star and Marco’s current situation (the parallelism is even deeper in the Guide book, see this post)

she said that the only reason she hadn’t done it before was because she knew Marco didn’t feel the same way. She didn’t mention the fact that he was dating Jackie as one of the reasons.

As usual, just my two cents on the matter, but I think that was just the reason in the immediate. Like, five minutes earlier, while talking to Marco, she decided to lie to herself and to her friend to “protect Marco”, not to give him an unwanted burden -and also, clearly, to avoid herself “rejection”.

And then, when she suddenly has to leave, maybe forever, she decides that she has to be honest, with herself and especially with Marco, even if the truth could hurt both of them.

And Marco himself would agree that she did the right thing

So I can definitely see what you mean: “What the hell, Star didn’t hesitate about confessing because she didn’t want to damage Jackie and Marco’s relationship, but just to protect herself!”. In a way, it’s true, but we also have to consider that the show couldn’t have Star list all the reasons behind her choices, she had to leave, it was a now or never situation, and she was concerned about what really mattered to her in that moment: Marco.

Future episodes might prove me wrong (hopefully not!), but I think that Star would never ever try to be a “home wrecker”, she likes Jackie a lot, and even in the heat of her heart being crushed, in Just Friends, she tried her best to support Jarco!

birthdays in Carry On

Let’s talk Carry On.

Let’s talk birthdays.

So we know that Simon’s is the summer solstice in 1997. So, June 21st. (Did I look this up specifically for the year? Ahem. Shh.)

But Baz’s? Penelope’s? Agatha’s?

If the cutoff for starting school is “birthday before September first” (and assuming that none of them started school a year early or late) then that means they would have been born between September 1996 and August 1997.

PENELOPE
Penelope is younger than Simon – she says her mom was pregnant with her when the first dead spot appeared (ch 46, p 251) – so her birthday is some time between June and September of 1997. And she says she was 11 when Simon first went off. (“Most magicians can remember exactly where they were that day. (I can’t. But I was only 11.)” ch 23, p 131) Which was in August of 2008.

So her birthday is sometime between June 21st and the middle or end of August, in 1997.

BAZ
He was five when the Watford tragedy happened, on August 12, 2002. So he was born sometimes before August 12th, 1997. (Probably, I would guess, not in the week or two before, or he might have said something like, it was just after my birthday. Seems like something a five year old might remember.)

So – sometime between September 1996 and August 12th 1997.

Also, it seems logical that if Baz’s birthday were at the beginning of school/pre-Christmas (especially while he was missing) that Simon would’ve mentioned it. (In fact, I would venture that it is CERTAIN, Mr. I-mention-Baz-literally-773-times, thank you @thepessimisticasshole for your work collating those numbers. Though I suppose it’s possible that Simon just isn’t very good with dates.)

So I’m guessing sometime between late December/January and August 1st/12th, 1997.

AGATHA
For Agatha we don’t know anything more specific, I don’t think, than “between September 1st 1996 and August 31st 1997.” (Again, unless she started school a year early, or a year late, for some reason.)

But the same goes for Agatha – surely if her birthday were between September 1st and Christmas, we would’ve heard SOMETHING about it, because it would’ve happened during the story. So, I’ll guess sometime between January and August 1997. (Then again, maybe it did happen between Sept-Dec, and no one paid any attention. There’s a fic for you.)

If I’m missing any text references, fellow Snowflakes, please please tell me!

And @rainbowrowell – can you tell us? What are Baz, Penelope, and Agatha’s birthdays?

Somebody somewhere said Quintessa talks to Optimus like he’s a bratty child.

NO.

That’s not how you treat a child, not even if they are being bratty and rude.

The way she treats Optimus is straight up physical and emotional abuse.

I’ll break it down. I posted about this before, but fuck it I’m doing it again.

All pics were dug off Google. Gifs were made by me with help from Youtube and gifs.com

Optimus lands in a less than optimal condition. He’s been in stasis for who-knows-how-long. He’s got dents from space rocks that probably hit him while he was out. He’s half-frozen, as in you see ice fall off him when he looks up. He’s probably in pain because space is really fricken cold.

And he’s pissed off.

Optimus walks in to Quintessa all “I’ll kill you!” because he believes Quintessa is the person behind the Seeds and as a result is a direct threat to Earth. He’s trying to protect a place and people he values.

Quintessa, despite her tiny size, has powers that make her able to render Optimus helpless against her without effort. She hurls an energy blast at his arm to knock his sword from his hand, calls forth the chains that restrain him and shoots him in the upper body / head with a stronger energy blast that knocks him into his knees. This is an establishment of dominance, which she completes by saying, “You dare to strike your god?” Her voice is very cold, angry sounding.

Now the emotional and physical abuse begins as Infernocus walks behind Optimus.

Quintessa spits at Optimus, “Your war doomed Cybertron.”

This is when Infernocus starts to beat Optimus and grab his head to further immobilize him and force him to look at Quintessa. It’s right as Optimus says, “Megatron started the war!”

Quintessa takes hold of Optimus’ chin and gaslights him with this accusation: “You destroyed your world, you fool!”

Keep in mind, Optimus launched the Allspark (Cube) into space. Cybertron was already dying, and this would seal its fate. An act of desperation to stop the war. Cybertron was probably screwed no matter what choice Optimus made. He wrestled with the decision before and after he made it. This is what Quintessa hooks into when she gaslights Optimus by making it sound like the loss of Cybertron is entirely his fault. His fault, nobody else’s. We all know the real blame lays on everyone involved on the war, yet Quintessa puts all that blame on Optimus alone.

Think about that for a moment. That’s what Optimus is doing in this scene. I bet he sees the face of every soldier he ever lost or killed in battle as well as the Cube zooming into space. It’s all flashing through him. He’s silent, stunned by her words. And the slap happens while he’s still reeling from what she said to him. It’s not a little love tap. Optimus grunts in pain, sparks fly and the blow jerks his head to the side. He doesn’t turn his head, her slap does.

It’s interesting how the red mark doesn’t just appear. It starts small and propagates until it “solidifies”. It’s like you see the physical pain of her slap and accusations / gaslighting manifesting as glowing gold light spreading on the left side of his face.  Optimus realizes she’s done something to him; his face is twitchy with a look of pain and fear.

And after that, Quintessa’s tone of voice changes to something more gentle and condescending. There may be dialogue missing because all I have are somebody’s low quality thirty-second long clips to verify, but she basically says “My perfect creation… you’re going to fix it, or the race of Transformers dies forever.”

Then she runs her hand down his cheek and smiles. “I made you. You are mine to command.” (Human parent abusers might say, “I’m your mom / dad / relative, so you have to do what I say.”)

The whole time, Optimus just looks confused, hurt and scared. It’s a huge contrast to how utterly pissed off he was mere seconds ago.

Quintessa has taken every doubt he’s ever had and twisted it to destabilize him. She knows she’s got him when he avoids eye contact and remains silent instead of throwing verbal barbs back at her. No more “What have you done to my world? I’ll kill you!” He’s just…silent.

Something interesting of note is how Optimus keeps avoiding eye contact even as Quintessa lifts his chin to turn his face towards her after the cheek caress. This would be perfectly normal behavior for an autistic person like me, but I don’t headcanon Bayverse Optimus as autistic. Eye contact for an autistic person hyper-activates a part of the brain related to faces in a way that doesn’t bother non-autistic people. Depending on the culture, NT’s who place a lot of importance on eye contact avoid it when they feel defeated or are afraid of somebody.

Quintessa maintains eye contact the whole time, even leaning into Optimus’ personal space as if to tell him he’s not allowed to have that anymore. She knows she’s got him when he’s avoiding her gaze. It takers her less than five minutes to utterly destroy him mentally.

A “skilled” abuser can tear somebody down real fast, and she does exactly that. She’s totally screwing with his mind.

She starts feeding Optimus lies about the Staff being stolen and basically sweet-talks / orders him to get it back. That’s where the “Do you seek redemption, Prime? Do you?” line comes from, to which Optimus replies, “My maker, I do.”

This leads to even more abuse and there are other things they discuss while Quintessa is making the chains zap Optimus. I’m sorta guessing this is part of what she considers his “redemption”. She basically groomed the hell out of him to accept her treatment of him as normal. He’s making noises of pain, but not fighting it because she conditioned him to see it as fixing the problem she convinced him he caused. I can’t say what she tells him without spoiling the movie for those who haven’t seen it yet, but Quintessa feeding Optimus this information while inflicting pain on him. To avoid spoilers, all I can say is she tells him Earth has the Staff and something on Earth can rebuild Cybertron. She convinces Optimus that this thing on Earth is something that must die for Cybertron to live.

The chilling part is Optimus mumbles “yes” as she’s saying “Earth will die, and Cybertron will live.”

Optimus accepts what she says as true. She has totally squashed his will and twisted his identity, and you know the damage is complete when Optimus says “I will fight anyone who stands in my way.”

Abusers find out what gets under their target’s skin and they will hook themselves under it and rip whenever they please to cause maximum pain whether it’s physical or mental. Then they play ‘move the goal posts’ where they imply doing this one thing will appease them, but when their victim does that thing it’s suddenly not good enough anymore.

She preys on Optimus after he’s been betrayed by nearly everyone he has ever trusted or looked up to. The way she talks to him almost sounds like she’s saying do my bidding and I will never betray you while literally betraying him. I shudder to wonder what else Quintessa had planned had he been the one to hand her the staff.

But the scene with the chains and dialogue is such a powerful scene. It shows how abuse doesn’t take long to destroy someone, especially if that someone is already vulnerable for other reasons. And it’s not Optimus’ fault that this happened. Yes, he walked into her ‘space’, but she, or whoever made the Seeds, became a threat to him first. The Creators sent Lockdown, who killed Ratchet. Lockdown mentioned the Creators, which named the threat Optimus had to target next to protect Earth.

Ultimately, Quintessa takes two things Optimus values greatly and forces him to pick one, yet her tactics coerce him to pick what she wants. You know abuse has done serious damage when the person being abused obeys their abuser’s will instead of their own because they’ve been twisted into believing they want what their abuser wants. They can’t think for themselves anymore because every action they take is based on “will it please them enough to not hurt me?”

It’s very easy to destroy and control a person if you know exactly what they value most. Destroying people inside and out is what abusers do. And it’s exactly what Quintessa did to Optimus.

I’m not saying nobody can make memes out of the slap or whatever. Have fun with that. Just remember how serious and damaging that scene is in the context of the movie.

Seeing people complain about the CW’s lack of positive female rep and in particular female friendships is great. Seeing them complain about Arrow especially is even better.

Seeing them complain about it without mentioning Laurel Lance though, is WILD.

“Felicity’s so isolated, she has no female friendships”

“The new team has no women”

“What happened to women supporting women”

“Why are there no female friendships”

like, man, I dunno, it’s like they all disappeared for NO REASON I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED

while i dont think joseph and mary should have stayed together (primarily because joseph is written to be a serial cheater and using the fact that mary wont or even cant properly stand up for herself to him and also mary clearly having gotten over the idea of having children, assuming she wanted any in the first place. i personally feel like joseph was lying to you when he said ‘heeeyy me and mary are through lets fuck’ because he didn’t even hesitate or even take time to let himself recuperate), theyre most definitely staying together for the sake of the children. a divorce can really hit one kid hard, let alone four.

now had joseph and mary really decided to stay apart for a while and joseph stay on his yacht, if mary were really abusing her children do you really really really think joseph would have left them all in mary’s care? why wouldn’t he insist she go stay at a hotel or with her parents or take them to his yacht himself? why would he leave the ‘abusive mother’ in charge of four children?

probably because, again, we were manipulated in game and out of game to believe that mary was a bad parent and wife. just because she chooses not to go find crish at the bbq really doesnt mean anything. she had 3 kids prior and i feel like she would know what shes doing by now in terms of having a toddler. everyone wants to accuse her of being a bad mother for not finding her toddler when its actually extremely normal for parents with 3 children to be aware of what the youngest will end up doing because having kids is a learning experience.

now is that a correct attitude to have? not necessarily but mary seems to know her children fairly well. she knows what the twins can and cant handle (ie; she knows they love horror movies, it’s not common but there are quite a few children who find a keen adoration for horror flicks at a young age), she knows that chris isn’t very outspoken (because he’s autistic), and she knows crish can survive for more than 5 minutes without getting into serious trouble (bcause she’s had to deal with 3 other toddlers).

the only times we really see joseph with any of the kids is with christie and they’re being happy and close. chris we can’t really gauge his opinion of either of his parents, and christian just bails at any chance he can get. christie seems to love her father, most likely her mother too. the kids arent aware they have marital issues because joseph and mary keep that private. they don’t want the kids to worry about their relationship.

mary doesn’t cheat, she just flirts because she likes seeing younger men uncomfortable. it’s funny to her and when a guy seems to want to take her up on her offer, she’s fully aware that he’ll back out when she starts getting weird about it which is why she says “don’t make checks your dick cant cash” she knows hes bluffing because its mary, she’s smarter than we’re led to believe.

joseph on the other hand, we are fully aware of two accounts that he cheated. robert and mc. had it been one time, i feel like mary wouldn’t hold much malice, especially considering she becomes close with robert. but somewhere in the middle of joseph sleeping with robert and mc moving to maplebay, joseph does it a second time, possibly a third if the timeframe allows it. now i feel like joseph started pursuing a sexual relationship with robert after roberts wife died and his daughter left because he knew robert was emotionally compromised but i covered that in a different post. but joseph knowing to go for someone emotionally compromised leads me to believe robert wasnt his first offense.

mary easily becomes friends with robert and i wouldn’t doubt it if she becomes friends easier with people she can bitch about joseph with. so quite possibly, joseph slept with several people that mary is now friends with (maybe not damien, that’d be a stretch. possibly neil, though. robert and mary seem to adore neil). that’s probably why mary is so upset with him. joseph thinks his cheating his completely to himself and the people he slept with when mary is waiting for him to admit it because every person he’s slept with has come to her and told her about it with the same story of “he took me to his yacht, told me you two were through, and then fucked me.” this feels slightly more reinforced to me since if i remember correctly, when examining the bedroom of the yacht, mc mentions how the decor is older in style.

mary should most certainly stand up for herself and call joseph out on her bullshit, just letting it happen isn’t healthy for herself or her family especially since joseph is part of the cause for her drinking problem at this point. but she cant, she wants to be able to wait for her kids to be old enough to understand their reasoning. joseph knows from the outside it looks like they have marital problems so he uses it to his advantage which only causes more and more problems. when it comes to joseph? mary is a pushover because she loves him but she’s so tired of all the lies. there is no doubt in my mind that joseph loves mary too, but the way he’s using her as a ploy to get laid is absolutely inexcusable.

its deeper than just “THEY HAVE ISSUES THEY NEED TO BREAK UP RIGHT NOW (and joseph needs to date my dadsona *heavy breathing*)” because when you take into consideration how they interact with the kids, how much each of them are fucking up, how old the kids are, how much time and money and custody issues it would take especially since at least one of them are most definitely in school and probably already has issues in his classes; a divorce isn’t doable. i get it, everyone only wants the best for these fictional characters, but not every abusive relationship is just like “let me snap my fingers and just leave haha! it couldn’t negatively effect anyone!”

i get how this can seem like im in favor of one character or the other, but i actually genuinely love both mary and joseph very much. they’re two of my favorite characters in the whole game and i’m only doing what i can to understand their situation.

The Mysterious Protagonist

Anonymous asked: “How do I create a main character? I have so many side characters and a decent plot. I like them better with a bit of mystery. I want my main to be interesting enough to not be the plain, boring, ‘chosen one’ stereotype. Help?”

Who ever said your protagonist can’t be mysterious? I’ve read novels where I don’t even get to learn the protagonist’s name or others that I go along thinking I know a lot about this character only for them to flip a switch and show I know nothing about them at all.

Miraculous Ladybug and Voltron Roles (and everything after)

So the Miraculous crew get flung into space riding on a Blue Lion, crossing the universe to a mysterious Castle, and into a war that spans millennia—a war they never knew about. Here’s what happened next.

·      Tikki (Princess Allura) and Plagg (Coran) have the most powerful weapon in the universe at their fingers, but it’s not their destiny to wield it. Luckily, five teenage pilots unintentionally stumble through their front door, awaken them from a 10,000 year nap, and proceed to shake the very foundations of space and time. Tikki, connected to the Lions and has a strong bond with quintessence itself, knows exactly where each pilot will thrive, eventually growing into the Paladins the universe needs.

·      Marinette is the Black Lion, the head of Voltron. She’s a tricky one—impulsive and trusts her instincts—nearly a good fit for the Red Lion, but she’s exactly the strategic, decisive head that Voltron needs. She’s meant to be leader—and it’ll be a journey to reach her full potential—but that’s part of the fun anyway. (She’s exactly where Keith would be at the end of Season 2 of Voltron in Shiro’s absence, which makes it all the more fun).

·      Chloe is the Red Lion, a supernova that burns bright. Temperamental at the worst of times, passionate at best—she’s a spitfire intent on raging into the world like a shooting star. Only she can tame the Red Lion, and once she has her hands on the controls, there’s nothing stopping her in the heat of battle. But she has a lot to grow before she comes into her role as Paladin, from spoiled Princess of the Garrison to a Paladin of Volron—but only time can tell what the future has in store for her.

·      Alya is the Green Lion, as the tech-savy journalist of the group. Whether she’s chasing a story or a conspiracy, she’s got the highly inquisitive mind and the daring nature that the Green Lion embodies. Always hunting for answers, going out of her way for the truth, a thirst for knowledge that burns deep—it’s why her and Green have one of the tightest bonds of the bunch. She’s a natural born Paladin, and that’s just what the universe needs.

·      Adrien is the Yellow Lion, with his sunshine smile and sparkling eyes. He’s always been quick to raise his friends up, supporting them and defending them when the need calls. The Yellow Lion holds the armor and defense to protect its team, and Adrien wouldn’t think twice before throwing himself in front of a shot to protect anyone he cares about. With the strongest and most resilient Lion, Adrien always answers the call of duty and does whatever it takes to protect the team.

·      Nino is the Blue Lion without question. The Blue Lion is the most open of the Voltron lions—friendliest and most accepting, just like Nino. The boy who took a chance to see the real Adrien behind the “famous model” mask, and welcomed him into a friendship with open arms, it’s no wonder the Blue Lion did the same for Nino. He flows like water—easy going and adaptable, with the confidence to muster nearly any situation—and is truly the heart of Voltron. Open and honest, Nino fits the key ingredients to pilot the Blue Lion.

·      The Paladins accept their duties after a stunning and deadly battle that nearly destroyed the Arusian homeworld, knowing that to step away might sentence Earth to the same devastation the Galra spread to numerous other planets, the same that cost Tikki and Plagg their people, their planet, and everyone they loved. It’s hard though, as Earth was their home and their families remain behind, with questions unanswered and no bodies to bury.

·      Marinette misses home the most deeply—she aches for it like a missing limb. With only her mother and father, their little family was a close-knit one, and the fact that she can’t go back—may never go back, though no one will ever say it out loud—hurts her more than any of Tikki’s wild training exercises. She’ll stand in the control room, watching the star map twist planets and stars around one another in a celestial dance, a soft blue glow painted over her face, with a small frown as the only sign that something deeply troubles her. She’ll never tell the team, except for maybe Alya. She already struggles with being their leader, and one more chink in her armor might give Chloe the chance to make a crater.

·      Adrien’s job is to be a rock. It’s what his Lion stands for, and it’s a duty he takes pride in. Whether he’s protecting his teammates or acting as their crutch, he’s always by their side as an ever-present guard. Outside of battle, it’s even more clear—especially with Marinette. He supports her in her journey to become the leader that Voltron needs. In moments of hesitance and fear, he places a hand on her to offer her stability in the tremulous world they’ve been through in. Outside of Alya, he’s her closest friend. From Adrien, a few words of kindness are all his friends need to curb their worries, fears and insecurities, and any general sadness that might tinge their smiles. He’s the perfect picture of steady and sturdy, but even the rock can have its cracks.

·      Adrien’s story was written in tragedy. It happened a year before, when Adrien was a blossoming young pilot under the Garrison’s eyes, son of the man who would fly the Earth to the farthest reaches of its solar system. Gabriel Agreste and a team of scientists led by Adrien’s mother were assigned the Kerberos mission, the most famous man-driven missions of the Galaxy Garrison, until an incident occurred, and the crew went missing. The Garrison passed the disappearance off as a pilot error, but Adrien, who had learned to pilot under his father’s watchful eye, knew that his father wouldn’t have made a rookie mistake and crashed a ship into a moon. Alya swears the Garrison was covering up the truth behind his parents’ death, but right now, Adrien believes more than anything that his parents would find a way to survive. So, while he’s flying in space with magical robot lion, he’s on the search for answers amidst the stars.

·      Alya’s got her eyes on the prize—looking for answers to the truths the Garrison tried to hide. This villain they’re facing, the Emperor Hawkmoth of the Galran race, wants Voltron for a reason, and she knows she’s seen him mentioned once or twice in the Garrison’s database. Tikki and Plagg have never heard of Earth before, but the Blue Lion was on Earth in the first place. There’s something going on here, and she’s determined to discover the secrets the universe has tried to hide—especially the truth about her mother’s demise and whether the Kerberos crew she was on really did die on a backwater moon of Pluto.

·      Alya spends most of her time immersing in Altean culture in the Castle of Lion’s library. There’s so much to learn about, whether it’s the history of the Voltron lions or how exactly the Blue Lion ended up on Earth and who King Fu (King Alfor) was. Tikki and Plagg are mum when it comes to history, and Alya’s always had a curious streak that might kill her (and Nino who she always manages to drag along). And if her and Nino lose track of time in the dark corner of the library, where a musty smell of age-old books tickles their noses, the rest of the team doesn’t really question it. If anything, at least the two Paladins are growing closer.

·      Nino’s just along for the ride. Spotting Chloe sneaking Adrien out of the Garrison, who was he to let his best buddy be smuggled away in the middle of the night? Course, Alya and Marinette had to be dragged along if Adrien and Nino were involved, if only to protect them all from Chloe’s unique brand of sufferance. In the heat of the moment, only Marinette could knock Chloe down a few pegs, which Chloe could fire right back. Nino, on the other hand, melted into the group like water, filling their spaces and cracks like an ebbing tide that can be tugged in any direction based on whichever moon in his system pulls the strongest. Accepting and open to nearly anyone, he trusts the most and holds the others in the highest regard—he is truly the heart of the team. He’s the only one who sees Adrien’s cracks, who can keep up with Alya’s ideas, who can bridge the divide between Chloe and Marinette, and who can keep Voltron together on the worst of days. Without him, things might just fall apart.

·      Chloe only meant to show Adrien the weird carvings of lions she’d stumbled upon one day while exploring a group of caves her father, as Director of the Garrison, had declared as forbidden territory. It’s dangerous, he’d told her, but since when had her father’s words ever stopped her? Normally she could wrap the man around her little finger, but when it came to her safety, her father wouldn’t move an inch. Naturally, Chloe pushed him off the edge entirely and molded her own path. There was something calling to her when she was out there, something that needed to be found, and Adrien was into the whole conspiracy shit in the first place, so of course she’d show him her discovery. What she hadn’t expected was for the Nerd Herd to come along—that never ended well. And she was right. She meant to show her closest friend some weird cave drawings, and the next thing she knew, they were hurtling across the stars in a magical robot lion. What’s a girl to do?

·      (Getting the Red Lion was a surprise to everyone—including Chloe. She’s not the type to rely on instincts, skill, etc—she was only in the pilot class because she knew her way around a stick and her father was easy to please. But the more time she spends in Red’s cockpit, with the controls in her sweaty palms, chest heaving as she pulls up from a dive… The more she realizes, she was born to fly. She was born to be here—to sit with an old soul who’s just as passionate and fiery as herself. There’s something to be said, Chloe believes, that she feels more alive in space where she has literally nothing, versus back on Earth where she had everything.)

·      They’re a mismatched batch of kids, pilots pulled from Earth in a jaw-dropping, heart-throbbing whirlwind through a wormhole, but… It’s funny, how well they mesh together. It surprises Tikki and Plagg sometimes, who watch with wide eyes as they execute training drills and mission-ready exercises. By all accounts, they should be divided—they’re children pulled into a war they didn’t know about—children who haven’t embraced their roles as Paladins, their bonds with their Lions, or their relations with each other.

·      Marinette and Chloe have butt heads from the beginning. Marinette will NEVER be Chloe’s leader, her superior, or commander, and Marinette will never become friends with Chloe Bourgeois, but these two simple facts prevent them from forming Voltron. Reluctant acceptance would probably best define their relationship—or a necessary evil. But as they form Voltron and take on the Galran forces, it becomes something else entirely. Lke fire and ice, they contrast each other so drastically that Tikki expects one of them to spontaneous combust one of these days, but somehow Marinette and Chloe have found a way to make it work. With Marinette’s strategic thinking and Chloe’s cutthroat tactics, they make the perfect team in combat and on missions. (Though, if Marinette shows even an ounce of weakness, Chloe will strike, and Marinette is always quick to rise to bait). A toxic potion indeed, one might assume, but one that cancels out the poison to become an antidote entirely.

·      Slowly but surely, they’re coming together. They still have a long way to go—a lot to grow into—but Tikki and Plagg are certain that they can save the universe. Whether it’s the mystery of the Agreste family, the truth behind Hawkmoth, the childish bickering or saving the universe in general—Voltron can overcome anything.

·      It’s just gonna take some time—and a wild ride to survive.

I’m pissed

I never mentioned it here, but they’re shooting an american tv series in my summer town (I’ll eventually post a link and some photos of you’re interested). That’s quite cool. People went crazy, especially because they’re casting background actors! Everyone wanted to appear in the show, of course. I was super excited for it, until I talked with a friend who lives in the town. I playfully asked her if she was casted, and she said: “they didn’t accept me because I’m too light skinned. X wasn’t accepted for the same reason”. Goddammit guys. I can’t believe they’re not casting Italian people to play Italian characters, because they don’t look “Italian enough”! Once again casting companies think they get to decide how an Italian person is supposed to look like. Go ahead with the stereotypes 👏🏻

kittyichooseyou  asked:

I have a klk question, and I apologize if you've answered it before, but, do you find any significance in Ryuko taking a big bite out of an unpeeled lemon in her introduction? Like, was it just meant to make her seem hard? Or like, does it have some subtext I don't understand? Is she ever seen eating lemon/drinking lemonade as a background thing? I've always wondered about this. Thanks.

I gotta be honest with you: I’m atrocious at talking about symbolism. There’s a reason that my hundreds of essays hardly ever mention it.

So… I haven’t especially covered this before, but I can provide some Thoughts.

First and foremost, the lemon scene has been largely understood as a homage to FLCL, a coming-of-age anime worked on by Gainax—the studio that Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Otsuka left to found Studio Trigger, which is the team behind Kill la Kill

In the first episode of FLCL, Naota, the protagonist, refuses to drink the rest of the sour, “Lemon Squash” pop that his friend Mamimi didn’t finish. He claims that he “[doesn’t] like sour drinks” and proceeds to toss the can aside.

However, at the end of the episode, Mamimi offers Naota the sour pop again, and his reaction changes. While he repeats his sentiment—“I told you, I don’t like sour stuff”—Naota doesn’t toss the can aside this time, instead guzzling the drink down.

So, when Ryuko, the protagonist of Kill la Kill, begins the first episode of her show not just forcing herself to consume something sour, but does so purposefully, without flinching… there’s probably something there. Kill la Kill’s director Imaishi did work extensively on FLCL, after all.

But what exactly is meant to be conveyed in either series is entirely dependent on how the “sour” symbol is understood.

On the one hand, the “sourness” could be a symbol of “first love.” For Naota to accept the drink in FLCL would be to accept an “indirect kiss” from Mamimi, who had been drinking from the can previously. The “first love” idea seems supported in Kill la Kill, with Ryuko noting, after Mataro steals her lemon (at least in the original Japanese script), “You’re that eager to learn what first love tastes like?”

Mataro: Bitch, don’t try to be all witty! I’ve had my first kiss!

And with the idea of “first love” comes the idea of childishness. Though it may have some… Unfortunate Implications, in both FLCL and Kill la Kill, it could be said that getting into a first romantic relationship is a sign of growing up. The fact that Naota initially refuses to taste “first love” represents his initial refusal to come of age—and the fact that Mataro in Kill la Kill insists that he has had his first kiss (or “get[s] way more action than [Ryuko]!” in the dub) represents his desire to seem “grown-up” and experienced.

Ryuko’s utterly blase eating of the lemon would then also imply that she has had romantic relationship(s) in the past and is not afraid of them.

However, with all of this, the “sourness” could simply be a larger metaphor: a metaphor of adulthood, maturity, that kind of stuff. Naota deciding to take in the sourness at the end of the first opening episode signifies that his show is going to feature his coming of age—something he initially didn’t want anything to do with, but that the story is going to push him to experience regardless. Ryuko immediately biting into a lemon could then signify that she’s already come of age, but—and more likely, considering Kill la Kill’s ending—it could also signify that she’s not afraid of the hardships, challenges, and “sourness” that comes with coming of age.

In this way, I also see the “sourness” as a bit of a metaphor for moving forward rather than running away. The lemon pop in FLCL is first featured when Naota struggles to tell Mamimi that his brother is seeing someone else—a hard, difficult, “adult” situation that’s not fun and not comfortable. Naota throws the can away, perhaps representative of how he wants to run away from this problem. At the end of the episode, though, Naota has revealed the truth to Mamimi, and he then drinks the pop, signifying that there’s no more running away: he’s growing up, whether he likes it or not.

But disregarding the FLCL tribute, a character introduction that features the character biting into a raw, unpeeled lemon is powerful on its own. It tells audiences right away that this character is badass—whether her lemon-eating is because she’s not afraid of growing up or hardship or “first love” or because of any other reason, you shouldn’t mess with this chick.

So repost because I didn’t want to add my note to the OP. Instead screenshotting again. If this wasn’t posted in the “daenerys targaryen” tag, I would have been able to continue living and pretending people weren’t this ignorant as to think they can diagnose mental illness so casually after reading the mayo clinic website.

I’m going to preface all of this by saying that I am not only a doctor who completed an undergraduate university medical degree and a postgraduate Masters degree in psychological medicine/psychiatry, but my specialisation and day job is psychiatry. And this post is not only an example of a misunderstanding of mental illness and personality disorders, but is grossly irresponsible to be posted on the internet without any evidence beyond citing basic criteria, nevermind the fact that it’s been incorrectly interpreted. All just adding to the stigma against mental illness.

Antisocial Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder are both diagnoses that have arisen from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). This is an Americanised classification that holds a Western bias and is currently in it’s fifth formal edition, with each edition being updated according to societal ideals and its changes. Westeros does not function according to our current societal values. Neither is it technically accurate to apply the corresponding diagnoses of Dissocial Personality Disorder and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder from the International Classification of Disease (ICD) for the same reasons. Not to mention it must prove to be enduring and cause significant distress in multiple domains of the individual’s life. These are technicalities, but ones that need to be pointed out. Especially if you insist on a “meta”.

Technicality aside.

Daenerys Targaryen does not have the diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder. She does not display a disregard for right and wrong as you suggest. She does not even display ambivalence for right and wrong. We see her agonise over her choices and consequences, and we see her feel remorse for not only her actions, but the suffering of others. See here, your so-called callous girl. She fights for the sake of her people.

You do not owe me your freedom, i cannot give it to you. Your freedom is not mine to give, it belongs to you and you alone. If you want it back, you must take it for yourselves. Each and every one of you.

She does not blatantly disregard the welfare of others as you suggest. Otherwise, she would have burned all of the Lannister/Tarly army upon initial attack. We see her question herself and her choices.

Mother of dragons, Daenerys thought. Mother of monsters. What have I unleashed upon the world? A queen I am, but my throne is made of burned bones, and it rests on quicksand.

This is not the thought of a remorseless individual incapable of empathy. She does NOT actively engage in aggression. She’s at war in a world where it is required. There’s a difference. Context is important and this is another example of irresponsible interpretation. There is little evidence of Conduct Disorder in her younger days (as a minor).

Poor or abusive relationships?! OMG. I’ll concede that given her likely poor attachment at birth due to nil regular caregiver and the history of chronic trauma, in the real world, this would predispose her to greater personality vulnerabilities and therefore difficulties with intimacy, she clearly displays an ability to connect in intimate relationships. She was able to show love in a relationship with Drogo and now Jon. She is able to maintain long-standing relationships (Missandei, Ser Jorah, Tyrion, Ser Barristan etc). “Fucking her nephew” is not an example of an abusive relationship considering that in this context, it is mutually consensual and neither party is aware of the incest. In fact, her relationship with Jon is one of the healthiest in the entire series. Well done in oversimplifying the issue. Btw, maybe check your love for Dany/Drogo at the door when you want to talk about abusive relationships.

She also doesn’t have Borderline Personality Disorder. “Risky sex” is not a criterion for borderline personality disorder. Impulsivity and risk-taking behaviours in a general sense are (gambling, promiscuity, substance misuse, disordered eating etc.). Having sex with Jon Snow does NOT fall into this category. Once again, consensual sex with someone you love is not wrong. Consensual sex with someone you don’t love, is also not wrong. There are also more criteria from BPD diagnosis that have been ignored. Regardless, she does not have a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.

As for Targaryen Madness.

Just because one character points out a family history of mental illness, it does not mean descendants are ensured a diagnosis (especially from a resentful character who hates entire said family). Aerys II was psychotic in the true definition of the term. He was experiencing paranoid delusions and hallucinations. This is the correct application of psychosis as terminology. Viserys was not “mad”. Emotional dysregulation and impulsivity, you could argue, sure. Reality-based persecutory themes in the context of repeated trauma, fair enough. Psychotic, no.

And Daenerys has not shown any signs of “madness”. She does not have blood lust. Offering consequences to actions is not an indication of “madness”. You may disagree with her actions, but it’s not a sign of madness. The closest you can argue is the prophetic dreams and even then, it’s Westeros. Most of the entire plotline is based on prophecy.

As for her alleged temper? I swear, it’s like antis have forgotten what human emotions are. People are allowed to be angry. Some people have a shorter fuse than others. Every time she has become angered, it has been contextual. She is a fierce woman because she goes after what she wants and does not like to lose. That’s basically a descriptor for a significant proportion of the population.

I was actually planning on politely pointing out the inaccuracies initially until I saw that OP not only ships a far more problematic abusive relationship in Dany/Drogo with was built without consent and a minor having sex with a man more than twice her age, but literally the next post in the daenerys targaryen tag was OP posting about Sansa in favour of Dany and just proving they are part of the crew who pit women against women.

Yet another Daenerys “meta” that I feel compelled to comment on because it proves to be baseless and incorrect. It’s one thing to write assessments based on opinion. But when you try to bring in diagnoses, I’m shutting it down.

ok, here's the thing

Im a DAENERYS’ fan , i’m EMILIA’s fan, i like other GoT characters, I love Jon and i’m a Jonerys shippers, but i want to clarify this because i been feeling she’s the one who need protection and fan-love, ironicaly what happen with Kit irl also happen with jon in the show;there’s some general feeling about “his” perfection and worship, ok im not into that but i will let that for another day. People are extremely unfair with Dany and somehow with Emilia as a person too,I’ve read people even calling her a homewrecker because of the rumors, not to mention the bodyshaming and the shit talk about her acting.

I can understand you don’t like her GoT’s character (which is stupid because she’s the fucking best character in the whole serie) but hey!.

Emilia is the sweetest person in the world, you will never see a shady comment or attitude from her, her life is clean and she does her best in every work,I feel the fact that she’s a woman is also a reason for the hate;  even as Dany, many seems to (especially male fans of the serie) no tolerate  that Daenerys is the most powerful “human"in this fantasy world; and there’s no man alive who can defeat her currently , i can see how some men fans of the serie feel their balls shrink every time she win a battle , fucking misogynist assholes…anyway, there’s another day talk too.

Now my point is  if you come for Emilia i swear i will fuck you up…no even subtle ,i will hunt you fucking down, idec how old are you, 11 or 54 , dont mess with Emilia, no on my watch bitch.
