Shinigamis and suicide

I’ve read several theories about how the shinigamis/ reapers in Black Butler committed suicide and would like to give my own interpretation.

From the picture above it’s fair to say, that Sascha hanged herself. Her silhouette is the easiest to recognize.

For Grell I would guess, that she slashed her wrists, because she likes to “paint things red” and in the picture you can also see, that the nails seem to be manicured. Something Grell is apparently fond of.

Othello probably didn’t get his name out of nowhere and in Shakespeare’s drama, Othello kills his wife Desdemona out of jealousy and than stabs himself. So I guess, that’s what exactly happened to our Othello.

Now it’s getting diffcult…

I would assume, that William jumped to death, because in the manga he’s often shown standing on high buidlings, which also gives some vibe of authority.

Ronald probably shot himself, as modern handguns weren’t invented until the middle of the 19th century and Ronald seems to be a newbie reaper and not long on the job.

For Alan I would guess that he overdosed, as he was already sick as a human and it would fit to the musical, where he’s infected with the Thorns of Death.

Eric is the hardest to guess in my opinion. I would ascribe the picture between what I would see as Sascha and Grell to him, which is barely recognizable. Given his cold demeanor in the musical, he probably chose a violent way like causing a horrible accident or something.

Ludger/ Rudgar is the only shinigami we’ve seen smoking so far. That’s why I would say, that he burnt himself to death, as cigarettes can be associated with fire.

Which leaves us with Undertaker. In my opinion he drowned, as he suddenly was very eager to leave the Compania, when the ship started to sink. I’m also picturing him to think, that drowning is the most romantic and artful way to die.

So, I did some height comparison stuff with the reapers and this is what I came up with

It’s Thom Browne’s Fall 2015 Ready-to-wear and Menswear that inspired me.
Mr. Browne, one of my favorite designers, got the idea from the exhibition named Death Becomes Her:A Century of Mourning Attire. Referring to the collections’ pictures, I start to draw mourning attires for all the reapers. It took me a few weeks to decide the proper suits, and match hats and veils for each reapers. The entire process is full of struggle, for it’s more than a fashion show that the models only need to put on the designs on the runway. As is known, the characters have their own personalities,so I try to make sure the clothes are properly reflecting their features.
For aesthetic reasons, I finally chose Burberry’s 2017SS trench coat for Grelle, and the skeleton on her/his shoulder  can be trace back to Alexander McQueen-What a Merry-Go-Round in 2001. In a word, the concept of mourning conveyed somthing beautiful, romantic, rich, which is agree with the dark romance of shinigami.

- Eric and Alan are actually the two older reapers, despite that Alan looks quite young. Eric is 33, Alan is 27, fight me… they are totally made for each other…

Yes, you read that right. I headcanon Eric as a carpenter and handy man, since his scythe is a saw, and I imagine it like this:
Eric ended up getting severely injured when he was alone in his shop (breaking a leg or something like super bad as getting caught in a machine. Therefor his scythe isn’t an electric tool, he’s now scared…) So he decided that better have control over his own death and make it quick, than slowly die as a result of the injury and suffer. This also make sense, since Eric tried so hard to save Alan. Eric is afraid to lose control. So, simply, Eric does what he has to do to stay in control…

- Alan isn’t a shy flower boy!
Nope. Alan is stubborn and constantly trying to prove himself and that a small size isn’t an obstacle. He has a calm attitude though, actually slicing through his tasks with his scythe without batting an eyelash. Eric was surprised… This small bean is ruthless and he knows it. That’s how he actually caught the thorns. Too confident in himself, he forgot to be careful…

- Ronald is 18-19 years old… Let’s face it, he acts like a modern teenager. But we love you anyway Ronnie, keep going…

- Ronald is the one most likely to save the other reapers asses in case of emergency.
He will just come riding at his lawnmower, mowing down the souls in the way of the other shinigami. William hates it…

- William is actually amused by how intimidating the other reapers find it when he shouts “overtime!” This makes William feel very powerful… honestly…

- the only one who doesn’t fear the overtime is Grell… She’d actually beg for it…

- Ronald only agrees to overtime if Grell is with him… This makes Grell annoyed. She loves Ronnie but she doesn’t like babysitting him…
