What are your feelings on Lysa, if you dont mind me asking?
Oh, no problem!
I wouldn’t say I love her as or even particularly like her- as a person, at least. As a character, I appreciate her story a lot. I sympathize with her hugely. Her story is, in my opinion, genuinely tragic. Lysa Tully had all of Sansa’s dreams about handsome knights and true love with none of Sansa’s northern steel- and it destroyed her. Essentially, Lysa lived and died for love, and in the end she was horribly, horribly betrayed. Her last moments were spent realizing that the man she had spent most of her life in love with and fighting to reunite with had never loved her at all.
I think that people despise her because we want her to fight, to do something, to have Cat’s strength in the face of adversity. But in the end, Lysa is the younger one and always less beautiful and less loved and I’m surprised more people don’t find that worthy of sympathy or find it easy to empathize with her. With a little bit of thought, it’s not so difficult.
So, is Lysa my favorite? No. But do I appreciate her arc and have a special place in my Tully-beating heart for her? Absolutely.
