To accept women as priests meant to overturn centuries of socialization and religious traditions which presume that women are not, should not, and cannot be leaders, possess authority, exercise power, preside over mixed gatherings of men and women, or represent God within the human community.

Overcoming this conditioning is immensely difficult, for it involves personal conversion and corporate transformation.
