ep: reckoning

4

I used to work for a company that had a partnership with EA games. All of us got to pick a console game out of EA’s library to take home for free. I picked “Kingdom’s of Amalur: Reckoning” on a whim…mostly because nothing else interested me.

It became one of my favorite games EVER. I invested so many hours in that game…like…hundreds way too many.

I love the fae. Way too much.

I came up with a fae OC and an almain (human) OC. The story is that the girl, Minnow, rescues a warrior fae named Sol after he was attacked by bandits. Though Minnow dislikes the fae due to their condescension and hatred for mortals, she saves Sol from returning to the Great Cycle (the fae version of death) in order to show him and his brethren the kindness and values that many mortals possess.

Cliche, I know. But I think they’re cute.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an open-world RPG similar to the Elder Scrolls games, in fact it released shortly before Skyrim but due to the hype round it, Reckoning was largely ignored. I have played this game in it entirety and while it is lacking in some aspects (such as really basic attacks, no jumping, and a few other things) this game is one of the best RPGs I’ve had the pleasure of playing. Sadly though, the main companies behind this game, Big Huge Games and 38 Studios both went bankrupt and it is doubtful that EA Games would invest in a 2nd KoA game, unless this game gets much bigger.

It is currently on sale on Steam for $5 or the Collection with the DLC for $10. I highly recommend purchasing this game if you are into fantasy RPGs.

So, when I saw the chakrams in Kingdoms of Amalur: the Reckoning, I thought that they were entirely fantastical and made up specifically for this game. Apparently, these Death Frisbees are at least as nasty in real life as they are in-game.

They crowded up to Lenin with the noses worn off
My handshake is worthy, it’s all that you’ve got
Metal shivs on wood pushed through our back
There’s a splinter in your eye and it reads “react”

They’ve shifted the statues for harboring ghosts
Reddened their necks and collared their clothes
Then we ditched the books but the menace got out
She gathered the corners and called it her gown

She said, oh, please find my harborcoat
Can’t go outside without it
Find my harborcoat
Can’t go outside without it
