environment awarness

I used to think the top global environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought with 30 years of good science we could address those problems, but I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy - and to deal with these we need a spiritual and cultural transformation and we scientists don’t know how to do that.
—  Gus Speth

Happy Earth Day everyone. Remember this year we march for science, so wherever you are, however you can, please get involved. Science serves us all, it protects our air and water, preserves our planet, saves lives, creates new industries, puts food on our tables, educates the next generation, and safeguards our future. We all have a voice and we can only bring about change if we band together to use it.

Tree are a poem the earth writes across the sky. Humanity cuts them down fro paper so we may record our emptiness.

I’m so f****** pissed right now. All of us are constantly distracted, our monkey minds are racing non stop and we’re feeding our minds and bodies with toxic shit day in day out. We’re so damn privileged, yet most of us don’t wake up in the morning feeling truly blessed and grateful for what we have. We are so blessed to be born into circumstances other people in different parts of the world will never experience, no matter how hard they try. Most of us feel lost and are damaged in one way or the other. Numbers of people suffering from mental and physical illnesses are going through the roof. Most of us are trying to fill this screaming emptiness inside with materialistic possessions no one actually needs. At first, it looks like we’re more connected than ever, globalization leaves the impression that it brought us closer together, yet there are so many people suffering because they feel meaningless and lonely. We get into huge fights about the smallest things, we can’t seem to solve big social issues that have been around the same amount of time humans have lived on this planet. We write books and make movies about heaven and hell while we’re already living this! Heaven and hell is all around us, we just need to wake up and see that! Instead we spend billions of dollars on creating art, cars, fashion, yoga studios or holiday resorts. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with art, music or traveling. But the price is too high to do all these things out of habit, in a mindless and wasteful way. And by the end of the day these things don’t even manage to make us happy anymore because we’re already on to the next thing. We’re insanely addicted to having more and more and more. We’re always in a rush, always trying to be somewhere else or someone else. We attack, we waste time, resources and energy non stop. If someone is outspoken about animal rights or is trying to make the world a better place, they get called a tree hugger and a “weird hippie” and is asked to stop smoking weed or drop acid, and to grow the fuck up. Meanwhile the ice is melting, trees are dying, climate is changing at a pace that leaves scientists surprised. Sure, they saw it coming, but not this quick. We’re actually close to the 6th big extinction period in the history of the earth. Let that sink in. Why isn’t everyone on their feet trying to fix this? What the fuck are we doing? Scientists say we have maybe 20 years to fix this mess we made. So what the hell are we doing? Being on tumblr, Netflix, instagram, being busy making a living, being busy caring about what others think, being busy exploiting other humans, even the people we call our “loved ones”, and of course the planet that is our home.
I stopped being a vegan because I was tired to be looked down on, I stopped being active and outspoken about environmental issues because at some point I felt like I was being annoying. And, you know, life was happening. I was doing what we’re all doing: trying to make money, trying to be okay with not being appreciated in my job, trying to be in a relationship, trying to be someone, trying to make myself happy, trying to fit in and feed this insanely flawed system. Even though I knew better, I got tired and went back to doing what everyone else is doing. I shut my mouth and made myself believe that I tried. Meanwhile I also felt like there were so many social issues that had spiraled out of control that it seemed silly to me to focus on trying to produce less trash and work towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. And I’m so mad at myself right now, and so mad at this whole situation. Why isn’t everyone else angry? Why are our ego driven, social problems so much more important than the massive damage we’re causing? Why aren’t we giving a shit about Mother Earth? Why is it more important to us to lose weight, look good, be liked, fit in, make no one angry, be famous, have lots of followers, fulfill our dreams? I really really don’t get it. I can’t continue to talk about these fucking small first world problems anymore, things that don’t matter the slightest when you look at the bigger picture. I was so numb and blind. It’s time to wake the fuck up. I’m not saying mental illnesses don’t matter. I’m not saying social issues aren’t real and bad. But we can do something about it, we don’t have to follow the same old patterns and routes we’ve been on for too long already. We don’t have to waste time and energy on feeling desperate, being overwhelmed and inactive. We have so much power, it’s time to use this power in a good way. I’m so tired of all these damn excuses.

The consequences of #capitalism when profits becomes more important than protecting only place we have as home from exploitation so that our future generations don’t inherit a global garbage can. It’s been said that “you can’t eat or drink oil”. The same can be said about capitalism that’s allowing the destruction of our home through exploitation.

Contaminated fish from oil pollution? That’s one example of the future where we’re heading with capitalism.

7 Ways To Connect With Your Higher Self

1. Mindfulness - clear mind, clear connection. Once you’ve learnt how to clear the mind you will find it easier to listen to the voice within. The voice that guides us toward what we love and away from what no longer serves us. The higher self knows who we truly are and being mindful of the now helps to destroy the illusion of separation between the higher self and the body.

2. Exercise - moving into the body. The body and the higher self are not separate, when we begin moving into the body we are using the power of the present moment to tap into the higher self consciousness. This is because we aren’t being distracted by thoughts of anything other than the now and this is where the higher self resides - the timeless realm.

3. Authenticity - be true to yourself. Deception imposes separation and this encourages us to live through the ego rather than tuning into the higher self. Be true to who you are and what you want and your higher self will help to guide you - it will not help you when you are deceiving yourself or others.

4. Consciousness - be aware of your environment. Having a greater awareness of who, what and where is in your life is a great way to tune into the higher self consciousness. Start by listening to your self-talk when you are around different people, places and things and move towards the ones that inspire positive self-talk - which is a clear sign of the higher self connection.

5. Love - vibrate higher. Love is the highest vibration, when you embody this state you will be able to connect with the higher self. You can do this by doing what you love - try something creative - and listening to your self-talk during this time. When we are in the love vibration it is easier to hear the higher self communicate to us.

6. Presence - make time for yourself. Take some time out of each day to check in with yourself. How are you feeling? What are the dominant thoughts in your mind? What are you attracting? Ask yourself these questions and observe your self-talk - this will help you to connect with your higher self who will always reveal the truth.

7. People - we are all reflections of each other. The higher self will reveal truths about ourselves if we are able to be honest with ourselves and others. Whatever you saw in others is a part of yourself you needed to be shown - the higher self helps to orchestrate interactions in our lives that we can learn from.

Live in the now to connect with your higher self.

Peace & positive vibes.

From an EPA staffer:
“So I work at the EPA and yeah it’s as bad as you are hearing:
The entire agency is under lockdown, the website, facebook, twitter, you name it is static and can’t be updated. All reports, findings, permits and studies are frozen and not to be released. No presentations or meetings with outside groups are to be scheduled.
Any Press contacting us are to be directed to the Press Office which is also silenced and will give no response.
All grants and contracts are frozen from the contractors working on Superfund sites to grad school students working on their thesis.
We are still doing our work, writing reports, doing cancer modeling for pesticides hoping that this is temporary and we will be able to serve the public soon. But many of us are worried about an ideologically-fueled purging and if you use any federal data I advise you gather what you can now.
We have been told the website is being reworked to reflect the new administration’s policy.
Feel free to copy and paste, I am posting this as a fellow citizen and not in any sort of official capacity.”
If you share, please do so with copy and paste.“

Hey I hope you're having a nice day sorry for sending you two asks in such a small time space I was just curious about your "protest art" or whatever you'd like to call it I'm interested in how you started doing it and how you get hired to make that kind of work.

Not at all, I really enjoy questions!! 💕

I think you mean my political illustration series? Sorry if I misunderstood!

I actually wasn’t hired to do these, though the first one really took off in my S6. And just to clarify–what follows is my personal viewpoint and journey on this topic, nothing more!

I think awareness and education are so very important. It’s one of the reasons I do lots of wildlife conservation art. I rarely do the illustrations like the ones above, and when I do, I don’t make them just for the sake of another edgy, politically charged piece. I really try to use this platform to encourage people to stop being bystanders. A lot of times people just don’t know and don’t know what they can do.

  • Go put the pressure on your local and state-level representatives.
  • For the love of god vote.
  • Be conscious of choices and purchases you make that will have a damaging effect on the environment and wildlife.
  • Be aware of what your representatives are slipping into bills and what the repercussions will be.
  • If a cause is important to you, donate.
  • If you can’t donate, petition
  • Don’t let crises like Flint, Michigan go on silently.
  • Put pressure on companies who endorse corrupt activities.
  • Don’t allow injustices, prejudice, and brutality go unmet with resistance.

If something matters to you, make it matter.
Be the change you want to see become your reality.

I don’t make an illustration for every topic that moves me. Sometimes, like the Syrian crisis, tragedies are so horrific that I can’t even think of a design and a donation is all I have to offer.

But overall, I’ve never been really into protest art or work with a political statement. As far as making a message with my art goes, my heart lies in comedy and finding humor in day-to-day things that unite all of us. One of the things I enjoy most about my webcomic @cooncomic is that people of all backgrounds and ideologies say they find it very relatable. And I can’t underline the importance of that enough. Because the world is full of dark, depressing headlines and shitty injustices. And at the end of the day, I firmly believe that what everyone really needs is to unite in a good laugh to remind us that, despite our challenges, despite all the terrible things in the world, we’re not so different. We really aren’t. That was Charlie Chaplin’s philosophy, and it’s something that’s always inspired me about his body of work.

But also like Chaplin, I think some topics can’t be shied away from. Some things are too important not to say. And we should never hesitate to make a difference where we can. Take action, be that change. Keep a kind heart and leave the world less shitty than you found it.

Wildlife Wednesday: Manatee Awareness Month

Did you know November is Manatee Awareness Month? Manatees are the official marine mammal of Florida. Sailors once mistook them for mermaids, hence the name of the manatees’ scientific order, Sirenia. There are three species of manatees in the world: The West Indian manatee, the West African manatee and the Amazonian manatee. All are vulnerable under the IUCN Red List. But only one—the West Indian manatee—lives in the United States, where it’s federally endangered. It’s estimated less than 10,000 mature manatees remain in the wild. Collisions with boats are the single greatest threat to their survival, followed by loss of warm-water habitats. But if you like going out on the water, you can help protect them! The best tips are to keep a watchful eye for manatees or manatee signs, reduce your speed, and avoid shallow areas with seagrass beds where they could be feeding. This morning I was self-soothing down from a panic attack and I used all of my tools (positive self-talk, swaying, balancing, conscious breaths, putting my legs up the wall, environment awareness). I’m my own best expert when it comes to my body and panic attacks, and as I gain experience I feel more and more mental control over my state when I have my symptoms, even if my body continues to have its episode.

It got me thinking about Solas and how he calms the Inquisitor and Cole, saying all the right things when they panic. He recites a practically perfect script for soothing symptoms. How does he know what to say? Is he just a kind man, an empathetic person who has a sense for the right words? Or it might be that he came to know many ex-slaves who experienced panic attacks, and sought knowledge of how to best respond.

Then it made me sad to remember that Solas’s expertise might have been earned through personal experience.

Fen’Harel is said to have spent centuries in a far corner of the earth after his great deception, hugging himself and giggling madly in glee.

It’s only a legend. But I’m thinking about Solas after he’s trapped the gods away and he’s still mourning Mythal’s death. A wandering dreamer comes across him in the Fade. Solas is hugging himself, rocking back and forth, making gasping, choked noises.

The Dread Wolf is laughing over his victory, spreads the legend.

Solas feels like his lungs are collapsing. His eyes hurt so much, he doesn’t know how long it’s been since he was able to move his arms from their rigid grip but his hands are aching and stiff. He stopped thinking a long time ago, but his thoughts before his mind blacked out were all vicious and scared, and those sensations of self-loathing linger; he wonders if this is the end, and wonders if that is for the best. But it never is. And he hates how he has time to recover between the waves. He thinks in these moments when his mind is clear: are you trying to prove something with this pathetic display? Then the next wave hits, and he can’t control the way his legs kick out or how his heart feels like exploding.

I feel like he slowly realizes that these episodes are a product of an instinctive defense of his body and mind. One which hurts more than helps, and one which can be approached, observed, and soothed. The immortal scholar labors over centuries to do just that. He becomes his own best expert. And then when he wakes, and when his friends can’t breathe, he does his best to help them manage, and help them heal.

U.S. Pipelines Spill 9,000 Gallons of Dangerous Chemicals a Day

Gotta Marry Her: the meta

Or rather, my brainless ramblings about how similar Reiner and Historia have turned out to be.

There are obvious comparisons to be made, in terms of them basically being the two most popular members of the 104th. Everyone loved them and they even become the “Jock and Queen Bee” for the High School AU omake.

The most recent chapter has triggered major comparisons between Eren and Reiner. And we’re obviously supposed to see the parallels between our protagonist and the antagonist that became his major enemy.

But I think there’s so many parallels between Reiner and Historia, that I really have to wonder where things are headed.

dokidokishit  asked:

Hello! I am wondering about what the difference between Si, Ti & Ni. They're all thinking based types, so what makes them different from each other?

They are thinking based types in the sense that all happen inside your mind; but a ‘thinking-based’ type in MBTI means a LOGIC-based judging type, which is Introverted Thinking (Ti) or Extroverted Thinking (Te).

Si and Ni are perception functions, not judging functions. All they do is collect personal impressions and information; they do not decide what to do with it.

Si collects the unseen sensory perceptions and tries to match it with a sense of internal sensory wellness.

Ni collects the unseen symbols or abstract perceptions (what is really going on here?) and tries to fit it into its broader worldview.

These functions then work directly with Te (what do I make of this information and how can I use it to accomplish something tangible?) or Fe (what are the moral implications of this information and how can I use emotional expression to make my Ni vision real or adhere to my Si attentiveness to detail?).

Ti is a judging function; so it analyzes information, categorizes it, and tries to fit it into a inner framework of what seems logically sound and precise. It then expresses its emotions through Fe-openness, or uses Fe to persuade others of the soundness of its logic. And it explores its logic through a perception function, such as Se (awareness of the possible actions of the environment) or Ne (awareness of the possible ideas of the environment).

Fi is a judging function; so it surveys information, determines its emotional truth or the state of its morality (is this right or wrong?) and then articulates its beliefs or moral judgments through Te (frank assessments and/or action driven to accomplish a set purpose). And it explores its moral beliefs through a perception function, such as Se (awareness of the possible actions of the environment) or Ne (awareness of the possible ideas of the environment).
