enslaved populations

cicada3303 replied to your photo “@balddudesrock ALL SLAVERY SUPPORTERS ARE WORTHLESS PIECES OF HUMAN…”

“all confederate soldiers”? You need to pick up a history book. A very small percentage of those in the south actually owned slaves, and the war was about the north trying to enslave the south! The confederate flag is a symbol AGAINST slavery and racism, not for!

YEAH I HAVE A DEGREE IN AMERICAN HISTORY, I’VE READ DOZENS AND DOZENS OF PRIMARY SOURCES WRITTEN DIRECTLY BY BOTH CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS AND CONFEDERATE OFFICIALS, AND THE CONFEDERATE MOTIVE WAS PRETTY OPENLY AND UNABASHEDLY THE PRESERVATION OF SLAVERY. THAT WAS, LIKE, THEIR MAIN CONCERN. IT WAS SORTA THEIR WHOLE DEAL. SOUTHERN ARISTOCRATS PERCEIVED THAT NORTHERN REPUBLICANS WERE GOING TO ABOLISH SLAVERY AND COMMITTED AN ACT OF MASS TREASON IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THEIR “RIGHT” TO HOLD SLAVES.

AT NO POINT WAS THE NORTH TRYING TO “ENSLAVE THE SOUTH,” IN FACT THE NORTH WASN’T EVEN ALL THAT INTERESTED IN GETTING RID OF SLAVERY UNTIL THE SOUTHERN STATES PITCHED AN ABSOLUTE HISSY-FIT AND TRIED TO TEAR THE COUNTRY IN HALF JUST BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT THE NORTH MIGHT TAKE SLAVERY AWAY FROM THEM. THIS IS NOT AN INTERPRETATION – THIS IS LITERALLY THEIR STATED MOTIVE FOR SECESSION. THE CONFEDERATE CAUSE WAS INHERENTLY AND TO ITS CORE PRO-SLAVERY, AND ANYONE WHO FOUGHT FOR THAT CAUSE WAS FIGHTING FOR THE CONTINUED SUBJUGATION AND ENSLAVEMENT OF THE BLACK POPULATION REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THEY ACTUALLY PERSONALLY OWNED SLAVES.

THE CONFEDERATE FLAG IS A SYMBOL OF TREASON FLOWN BY SOUTHERN COWARDS WHO WERE SO IN LOVE WITH THE IDEA OF STRIPPING OTHERS OF THEIR FREEDOM THAT THEY WERE WILLING TO INITIATE A WAR AND DIE FOR THEIR RIGHT TO DO SO, AND FRANKLY I DON’T SEE WHY WE SHOULD DISRESPECT THEIR MEMORY BY PRETENDING THEY DIED FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN WHAT THEY OPENLY CLAIMED TO BE FIGHTING FOR! THE CORE OF EVERYTHING THE CONFEDERACY STOOD FOR WAS SLAVERY BECAUSE THE CORE OF EVERYTHING THE SOUTH STOOD FOR AT THE TIME WAS SLAVERY.

THEY WERE ANGRY AT THE NORTH FOR “TRYING TO ENSLAVE THEM (INTO FREEING THEIR SLAVES)” AND “STRIPPING THEM OF THEIR RIGHTS (TO OWN SLAVES)” AND “TRYING TO IMPOSE FEDERAL POWER OVER THE STATES (BY ABOLISHING SLAVERY)” AND “RUINING THE SOUTHERN ECONOMY (WHICH WAS 100% DEPENDENT ON THE CONTINUED EXISTENCE OF SLAVERY)”

AND THAT’S WHY, IF THERE IS A HELL, EVERY LAST WILLING CONFEDERATE SOLDIER WITHOUT EXCEPTION IS CURRENTLY ROTTING THERE WHERE THEY BELONG, AND YES THIS INCLUDES ANY CONFEDERATE ANCESTORS ANY OF US MIGHT HAVE

  • Tumblr: Age/ship discourse
  • Me, and intellectual: People can ship whoever they want as long as it causes no distress to others or to the people around them. Also, Voltron is a kid's cartoon show that revolves around friendship, teamwork, and family as a group of people band together to defeat a long reigning empire focused on conquering the universe and enslaving the population. It's about overcoming insecurities and differences as the team is faced with multiple trials, some personal, some not, and discovering new facets about themselves as well as accepting who they are and each other despite their flaws, and helping each other grow.
On “The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy”

So, I have some thoughts on the Whirly Dirly Conspiracy.

Namely, on one Jerry Smith and choice in the RAM universe.

Now, everybody hates Jerry, both in the fandom and in the show. But until this episode, we’ve never really had a reason as to why. Rick says that it’s because Jerry is a predator who uses pity to get what he wants. While this is partially true, it’s really a small part of the matter at hand.

Jerry definitely has an history of using pity as a weapon, but as of late, he’s actually been moving away from that. This is HUGE, because, to date, that means Jerry is the only adult on the show to actively attempt to change. Old Jerry would have agreed to assasinate Rick just because he was too scared to do anything other than go with the norm, but in The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy, Jerry considers the facts (Rick helped enslave the native population, and ruined his family and his life), and actively agrees to help because he thinks it’s the correct choice. When Rick apologizes and shows compassion to Jerry, he realizes he was wrong, and makes the choice to try to save Rick’s life, which he does successfully.

Again, this is HUGE. Jerry has realized his agency in life, something even Rick can’t do, as shown in the episode “Pickle Rick”.

Furthermore, when Jerry is asked to donate his penis for the greater good of the universe, he spends an entire episode undecided, going back and forth between what he should do. This stands in direct contrast to the events of “The Whirly Dirly Consipiracy.” Jerry grew, and Jerry realized his agency, something Rick has yet to do.

So why is Jerry continually punished? Well, going back to “Pickle Rick”, the Sanchez’s don’t reward the idea that each person is in control of their own life, and can change, but rather use intelligence as an excuse for doing whatever the hell they want.

In conclusion, Rick has been completely convicted in his choices because he convinces himself that they don’t matter anyway, but has stagnated. Jerry has struggled with agency in the past, but has realized that he’s in control of his life, has made the choice to change.

I really hope this contrast between Rick and Jerry is further explored in later epsiodes, because Jerry is an interesting character who, frankly, doesn’t get enough credit.

ROMAN SENATOR CATO THE ELDER FAMOUSLY ENDED ALMOST EVERY SPEECH WITH THE PHRASE “CARTHAGO DELENDA EST,” OR “CARTHAGE MUST BE DESTROYED.”

IT WAS HIS BELIEF THAT THE ONLY WAY TO ENSURE ROMAN SECURITY WAS TO COMPLETELY ANNIHILATE THE CITY OF CARTHAGE. THE ABSURD PART, HOWEVER, WAS THAT CATO EVEN USED THIS PHRASE TO CONCLUDE SPEECHES THAT HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH CARTHAGE WHATSOEVER.

HE WOULD MAKE A SPEECH ABOUT SOMETHING ELSE COMPLETELY AND END IT WITH “ALSO, IT IS MY OPINION THAT CARTHAGE MUST BE DESTROYED.”

FOR THOSE KEEPING SCORE AT HOME, THE ROMANS WOULD EVENTUALLY RAZE CARTHAGE, SALT THE EARTH IT STOOD ON TO PREVENT ANYONE FROM REBUILDING, AND ENSLAVE THE ENTIRE POPULATION, BECAUSE THE ROMANS WERE APPARENTLY NEVER LOWKEY ABOUT ANYTHING

You seem to avoid part of history that doesnt fit your political agenda. In number of population enslaved, the white population has been the most enslaved race in the planet. Seems you forget the Arab invasions of Iberia and Southern Italy, and the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans where entire countries where enslaved under muslim rule.

You are so full of shit.

And to find white slavery on that kind of scale you have to go back to ancient Rome. Regardless, white people have been destroying cultures, habitats, and basically the entire world for at least 500 years.

That ending tho {TVD 8x13 Review}

Hey guys! You know the drill, I write everything in real time which means if I make a mistake in the beginning it may be fixed by the end. In this review there will be anti-Damon, anti-Delena, anti-Bamon, anti-Steroline sentiments, probable mentions of misogynoir, anti-blackness and racism, possible mentions of other TV shows, if you do not like it do not read. I did this on my phone so bear with me. OK ready? Let’s go!

1. Seriously, Cade seems like a really petty devil though. “Kill 100 people or your brother’s girl” like … why? Don’t you have some world domination plans going on or…? Like why the interest in Stefan and Damon, what about either of them are particularly special to the devil? It doesn’t make sense to me. At least with Supernatural, everything from season 1 was leading up to Dean and Sam being vessels for Michael and Lucifer, like every season, every plot point fed into that so it made sense, this is just fucking random.

2. I’m legit taking this opportunity to tell people to watch Goblin because it is so much more intriguing than whatever the hell TVD has become. You can watch it on: Drama Fever, Box Asian, Drama 4 U Viki, like so many sites, guys. I mean, I’m just saying, if you want a show that’ll make you cry and keep you in suspense and make you fall in love with characters then that’s it.

3. Yeah Bonnie’s scream of pain totally could’ve been better.
Why do I care about Matt again? His family made a bell that could kill sirens? Or witches? And that somehow makes him important?

4. Everyone is having like such lowkey reactions to things. Damon’s reaction to Bonnie telling him that Stefan is human is like “Oh. Damn. OK.” LIKE? Bonnie crying over Enzo is like … I mean I guess. I remember when she cried over Jeremy, that shit looked painful.

5. “Stefan, thank God” sound even less enthused, Caroline.

6. Seriously Candice has NO conviction in her voice.

7. Why are there never any cars on the roads they drive on?

8. Alaric and Matt, the two characters I care about the least in one room.

9. “I don’t think this is just colonial bling” did they seriously make Dorian say that? UGH. Also who says bling anymore? Are we in the early 00s?

10. Why are we acting like this history wouldn’t include the enslaved or First Nations populations?

11. Why is Damon acting like he didn’t kill Tyler? I find this actually unbelievably fascinating. He can stand there and lecture Caroline about how Bonnie wouldn’t answer her calls when he killed Tyler who was supposed to be Caroline’s first love and her childhood friend? LIKE THIS WRITING.
I don’t understand this, Stefan is human so he can’t be immortal anymore and therefore is out of the contract so Cade will kill him? Can’t he just make Stefan an immortal human? Like why does he have to be a vampire? He can kill people without biting them, there’s always good old fashioned weaponry. Like what powers does Cade actually have?

12. Cade, why can’t you just get the book yourself? You’re supposed to be the freaking devil.

13. So the cops knew all of these people Stefan killed over two months and we’re just now seeing their presence?

14. How did Abby get to where Bonnie is so quickly?

15. “But don’t worry, Damon’s on it” yeah that isn’t a sentence that inspires confidence, Caroline. Shit.

16. WHY DON’T YOU GUYS JUST PHOTOCOPY THE FUCKING BOOK?

17. Damon’s hair is stupid.

18. Seriously Damon, it was that easy for Alaric to kill you? Why are you terrible at everything?

19. I’m sorry this “funeral” for Enzo is kind of ridiculous.

20. Like there are no side effects to turning human? You’re just human and that’s it. You don’t feel slower, weaker, you can just operate normally?

21. Damon is ANNOYING. Like I’m sorry but his “zingy” one liners just make me want to punch him. SHUT UP.

22. I also don’t get a sense of urgency at all. Everything is moving so slowly.

23. These costumes are TERRIBLE. We’re flashing back to the Maxwell and Bennett ancestors, Zach is playing his ancestor and this black woman is playing the Bonnie’s ancestor and the acting is just done so poorly.

24. Sybil does look good in period clothing though. Even if the period clothing is awful.

25. Lol Caroline and Stefan are so bad at being together.

26. I can’t believe I’m only 20 minutes.

27. “You know him by another name, the devil.” Guys, if people knew him as “the” devil, then they would know him also as Satan and Lucifer or any other religious name for the devil, you can’t just pretend like religion isn’t a factor.

28. Why would Sybil tell Ethan what the bell would do?

29. So Bonnie opened the door to hell with her scream, yeah this is Supernatural.

30. Wait, why does the cure make a human reject vampire blood? How does that work?

31. “Sirened to ring the bell” it’s just compulsion.

32. These flashbacks are actually so fucking awful.

33. Matt just die of a heart attack.

34. How can vampire blood cure a heart attack but not cancer?

35. Caroline’s “you’re going to live” speech is SO WEAK.

36. All they had to do was photocopy the fucking book to know how to kill Cade.

37. Seriously Caroline and Stefan just feel like really close roommates.

38. OH SHUT UP ABOUT HOW BONNIE IS BEING SO STRONG, let her CRY, let her GRIEVE, let her just fucking FEEL.

39. Matt kissing Bonnie on the forehead looks really weird.

40. And seriously he’s not even going to STAY with her? The supposed love of her life died and no one is going to just BE with her? Remember when I said she would grieve alone?

41. “Thank you for saving my life.” “Oh that, I do that because it’s Tuesday.” LMFAO OK, DAMON.

42. KAI KAI KAI KAI OMG IT’S KAI KAIAKAIAIoisno oaf oafn oang og osg ! And he shows up like a BOSS.

Yeah this episode wasn’t the worst episode of the season but it was still entirely boring. I wish we could’ve seen Stefan’s apology to Bonnie and also where are the twins, who would Alaric entrust to keep them safe when the last person he trusted was a siren who kidnapped them? Does Caroline know Alaric is back? Does she get regular updates on her kids? But whatever because KAI IS BACK AND I’M SUPER FUCKING EXCITED DESPITE MY BETTER JUDGEMENT.

“No fair, your legs are longer!”

Cassian closed his eyes as the sound of the children running grew fainter as their footsteps faded down the grassy hill. With Jyn’s heading resting against his chest and the warmth of the sun beaming down over them, Cassian felt a kind of relaxation he had forgotten existed in the galaxy. Tonight there would be no battle with blasters, only the sibling type of jibing his daughter and son threw at each other on a daily basis; the next strategy meeting he would attend would contain no plans for the assassination of foreign dignities or rescuing an enslaved population, only he and Jyn debating how best to wrangle their children into a bath with minimal complaining; the screams echoing over the hill were the free noises of childhood, not the angry voice of death.

No, Cassian Andor had found his peace within the galaxy and embraced it every day.

Lance Family Tragedy AU

I doubt this will happen in the canon series, but say the Galra invade Earth and enslave the population into becoming soldiers as their own soldiers are dwindling. Prince Lotor oversees the housing and experimenting on Lance’s family personally in a twisted endeavor to coax him to his side. With Lance’s older sister, Tina, he has Haggar and the druids brainwash her by magnifying her despair over having to be the parent to her siblings and failing to keep Lance safe. She’s turned into the Galra’s best sniper/sharpshooter who acts according to the belief she must eliminate anything and anyone that would do Lance harm, including her own family. She executes their mother and father and sets her sights on Craig next, Lance’s older brother. His legs had been replaced with the same biotic mechanical material used to craft Shiro’s arm. When she arrives at his cell, he’s thrilled and relieved to see her, but the reunion turns to heartbreak and horror when she admits to killing their parents and is going to kill him for being a bully to Lance. She claims Prince Lotor awakened and freed her. With his new enhanced strength, Craig is able to fend her off and escape and eventually meets up with Lance and the Voltron crew. With only each other and their self-loathing to comfort them, they promise each other they’ll go to any length to get their sister back and rescue their younger siblings who have been taken to orphanages where children taken there are told their families abandoned them and now they must train to be soldiers for the Galra empire.

Craig, like Lance, was jealous of the attention Tina and the younger siblings would get, so he resorted to extreme measures to get noticed: performing dangerous stunts and often getting hurt really badly. He’d chastise Lance for being too much of a wuss to participate. Overtime, this harmful behavior developed into masochism. He would try to find any opportunity to get hurt without getting killed so he could live receiving the only affection he’d ever known.

Anyhoo, I drabbed up a little script to go along with this AU of mine: Craig and Lance taking their training in the training deck too far and Lance coming to understand how Craig feels

Gladdy daddy’s up for the count, prepare urselves

{1,501 words}

Gladio

It was the night before you invaded Formouth Garrison that you finally let your thoughts get the better of you. It had been something Gladio said, innocently of course, because really, how could he have known? The guys were talking strategy, what potential entrances they could use, and the ones they couldn’t because of their previous infiltration.

“Well, it’s a good thing we have our own little spy then, huh?” he said, shooting a grin in your direction. You returned it with pursed lips and wide eyes, the sudden burn of acid tickling the back of your throat. You looked back down at the stew in your hands you had barely touched and tried to drown out their voices. Watching the flickering firelight that danced over the fingers, you clutched your plate a little too tightly and thought about the borrowed time that no longer existed.

The guilt— it was eating you from in the inside out.

industry is one of the most destructive things i can think of. the model of industry is that of prison. it is meant to create the worker as a tortured individual, forced into horrid conditions. it’s the same model as school. these things are linked together to string beings along from birth into school to be domesticated, beaten, broken, torn into the world of work. industry destroys the natural resources of an area, destroys the social fabric of an area, produces deserts both physical and societal. that’s been the reality of production since the dawn of agriculture. what that means now is that our system is built upon death, industry is death incarnate, we are riding on a death machine, and we don’t know how to pull the breaks. whether you want to face it or not, industry is tied to not only ecological destruction, but the mass enslavement of the population, tied to the whole ship going down. we are entering an era of deserts on a colossal scale and the leviathan is in a suicide pact. industry is the heart that beats on and pushes forward and it’s coated in blood, fattened by profit, and destroying everything it can to maintain a position of power

Hidden Figures: Sanité Bélair #BlackHERstoryMonth 4/28

Day 4 of ‘Hidden Figures’ brings us Sanité Bélair, also known as 'The Tigress of Haiti.’ Originally born as Suzanne, Sanité later changed her name and served as a sergeant and then lieutenant in the Haitian uprising against the French, along with her husband, General Charles Bélair. Saint Bélair was born a free person of color (afranchi) in L’Artibonite, Haiti, and joined the rebel brigade to ensure that her homeland received it’s independence and ended French colonial rule. She and her husband led the uprising of almost the entire enslaved population of L’Artibonite against their enslavers, one of many successful rebellions that ultimately resulted in Haiti becoming the only nation where the enslaved were able to successfully overthrow the rule of their captors, form a new state free from slavery, and govern themselves.

As a revolutionary and freedom fighter, Sanité Bélair has been officially recognized by the Haitian Government as a National Heroine of Haiti, and in 2004, she was featured on the 10 gourde banknote of the Haitian gourde for the “Bicentennial of Haiti” Commemorative series. She is the only the second woman ever to be depicted on a Haitian banknote.

Hey! I'm sorry for interrupting you, but can you recommend me some top!Sam Wincest stories? Especially some long ones? ;) Thnaks <3

FUCKING YES I’M SUCH A SLUT FOR TOPPY!SAMMY AND LONG WINCEST FICS

Here we go with my top ten!

1) The incestuous courtship of the antichrist’s bride by Fleshflutter: “Sam is trying to become the Antichrist in order to save the world. He has a small army of angels and demons, he has an adoring cult, he has a work of prophecy by Jack Kerouac, and he has Dean. Things are going pretty well until he accidentally signs Dean up as his Beloved Consort, a role that requires sex with the Antichrist on an altar. And that’s when things stop going pretty well. Also, the soundtrack to the Apocalypse sucks.”

2) Dark Side of the Moon by Fleshflutter: “Dean is cursed and loses his sight and hearing.”

3) Suite!Verse by Leonisdalion:  “ To save Dean from going to Hell, Sam has voluntarily embraced the role of the Anti-Christ and triggered Armageddon. As the world burns around them and demons enslave the human population, an increasingly demonic Sam begins to chip away at Dean’s will through alternating acts of of sex and violence. Caught between lust and fear, Dean struggles with the hope that his brother can be redeemed and slips further and further into the Stockholm Syndrome. As the series progresses, Dean loses more and more of his agency and personality, leaving the reader to wonder what, if anything, of Dean will remain at the end.” [WIP, very dark content]

4) Fumbling in the Dark, Love Advice for the Romantically Impared by Leonisdalion: “True Love really is blind…”

5) Not Time’s Fool by FayJay (Pandarus): “A story in 21 parts, featuring an Ancient Greek curse, an unexpected metamorphosis, adventures in pool sharking, numerous shots of tequila, a nun outfit, zombies, angels, demons, kidnappings, startling discoveries about old acquaintances, massage, a game of strip poker, girl-on-girl action, girl-on-boy action, and boy-on-boy action.”

6) Sleepwalking Back Again by Elohvee: “Wish ‘Verse. Spoilers for 2x20, and very vaguely for season 3. Warnings for established incest, adultery, angst, smoking, dramatic irony, and the complete absence of a happy ending.”

7) Soul-Eater, Death-Dealer by Nynxlynx: “A grieving Dean is pulled into an alternate universe where a much more hardened, cold Sam is working to get his Dean out of hell. Though Dean doesn’t want to go back to his lonely world, he aids Sam in his dark quest, a Sam torn between the brother he’s fighting to save and the one right in front of him.”

8) How many floors to realize by Lazy Daze (not so long but still one of my favs): “AU from the end of It’s A Terrible Life, in which Zachariah decides to keep stringing them along a little while longer, because damn if they aren’t somewhat entertaining, right?”

9) Supercross by Lazy Daze: “Set in a world where competitive team stunt biking shows – explosive entertainment performances full of tricks, talent, fireworks and music – dominate the world of freestyle motocross biking, this story follows Sam and Dean Winchester as they deal with their lives, bikes, flips, tricks – and love.”

10) Camdon Inn by Dragonspell:  “In the backwoods of Northern Michigan, Sam and Dean are on the trail of what they think might be the area’s fabled ‘Dog Man.’ What they find instead in the small town of Silver Lake is a suspicious sheriff, a shady innkeeper, a closed mouth town and a lot more than they bargained for when the supposed overly large wolf that they were hunting starts hunting them back. And, much to Dean’s horror, he can no longer seem to keep his hands off of Sam.”

anonymous asked:

Have you heard of the conspiracy that Earth is working with the Galra?

I have.

I don’t think there is any evidence in favor of it, and a whole lot of evidence contradicting it. Least of which being that there is literally no reason for a government space program to sign off an absurd amount of money to send people to a moon of pluto of all places, to gather ice samples looking for microscopic life, if they have concrete evidence of other sentient life.

If Shiro and the Holts were a sacrifice, it makes no sense to use such a roundabout way to do it or that all parties including the empire, who have no reason to believe any of those people will escape and thus no reason to lie in front of them suggest that the Kerberos mission and that scout ship bumbled into each other by pure accident. That’s a huge amount of effort, and you really think an empire that regularly enslaves the populations of entire planets is going to be beside themselves to get a couple of bewildered scientists, one of whom is getting on in years, and another is a teenager?

We have never seen Zarkon’s empire show any interest whatsoever in playing covert operations. If Earth was under control of the galra, the Garrison is the first thing they would shut down. They would not be leisurely letting a conquered people train and arm themselves. We would see Earth the way we saw Olkarion: with every major city full of imperial troops and all major political leaders at gunpoint.

The show literally said “Oh, if the galra were on Earth, you’d know.”

The writers have said Earth is not impressive or interesting to the galra, because we’re backwards and primitive by their standards. That hardly suggests they’re suddenly playing sneaky with us when they aren’t with any other conquered planet. They have nothing to fear from us.

And that’s my biggest problem. Setting up discreet puppet strings is so unlike the empire we’ve never even seen them come close to it. Sendak literally calls ahead and cheerfully informs Voltron he’s coming to destroy them. When the empire gets into a planet they milk it for all it’s worth as hard as possible. Humanity’s not scary by their standards. By galra standards we’re living in caves banging rocks together even in VLD’s Earth that’s more advanced.

There’s no reason they’d minimize their exploitation of Earth and stay quiet. We’re not advanced enough to stop them from steamrolling us if they didn’t give us warning and there’s nothing Earth could offer the empire that they couldn’t get far more of by taking by force.

It feels like people want to go for a twist- that Earth was ALREADY CAPTURED, oh no!- but don’t really look into……. that you really can’t make it fit in any sensible manner given what we’ve already been explicitly and canonically shown. If you have to explain how 90% of what you’ve been shown onscreen about a subject is just a huge lie in order to make a twist work, it’s not a twist, it’s bad storytelling.

Maybe, maybe I could put it to Lotor who has been stated by the writers that he’s going to have much more of a “Pax Romana” philosophy than “grab everything you can get, rip the hearts out of your enemies’ chests and use those too” the way the main fleet does? But Lotor hasn’t been in power long enough to possibly have anything to do with Earth and even then- Lotor’s seemed to be incredibly public so far. His only real motivation to play that kind of game with Earth is if he’s trying to catch the paladins- in which case, there are many more direct and easier ways to do that rather than exploiting a population very likely to be highly sympathetic to the paladins and rather mad at the empire.

anonymous asked:

You're making me question my belief that communism can work if done right...

Good, that’s the idea, that’s my mission, to end this lie once and for all.

There’s no proper way to enforce communism, because it is an inherently flawed system that sooner or later will destroy the countries its forced upon, or at the very least, enslave their populations.

Freedom, actual, non-politically thrown freedom, is part of human nature, and its also the one thing communism tries to supress the most, since it knows that with it, people won’t adhere to its deeply flawed, if utopic, ideals.

The Rebellion and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

A lot of Star Wars fans have expressed confusion as to why the Rebellion took such a long time to get off the ground, but the slow speed which with it got off the ground makes sense within the context of this:

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The basic idea behind this is that, until the most basic needs are met, people generally aren’t going to be concerned about the stuff higher up. If just staying fed is a struggle, you aren’t going to really care about, say, whether or not you can vote. People can, of course, care about both, but you’ll likely have less time to care or fewer opportunities to do something about it.

Historically speaking, uprisings and revolutions have occurred at two specific sweat spots. Either people have had their backs so far up against the wall due to starvation, violence, etc. that they feel they must fight back for survival (Tunisian Revolution), or a group of economically secure people start wondering why they don’t have more power (American Revolution). In a number of cases (French Revolution, Russian Revolution) the two coincide with a spontaneous revolt by the people being co-opted by the wealthy types who think they know best.

The Rebellion in the GFFA is an example of a dual revolution. It began during the Clone Wars, was brutally crushed by the Republic/Empire, and then had a successful resurgence. Probably the vast majority of the galaxy were not interested in the Rebellion as they were either too busy just trying to put food on the table or actively benefiting from the Empire in some way. So, who was benefiting from the Empire? At the top, you had people like Tarkin and Krennic who saw the Empire as a path to fulfilling their wildest ambitions be it money, power, or fame. Others saw the Empire as a path out of grinding poverty like Rae Sloan and Ciena Ree. People like Dr. Aphra and Sgt. Kreel who had first hand experience with unchecked lawlessness saw the Empire as a source of protection.

If the majority of the people were either unconcerned or supportive of the Empire, then who joined the Rebellion and why? Rebels generally fell into one of two groups. They were either people with their backs up against the wall or relatively safe folks with some sort of moral or political objection to the regime. The reason why it took the Rebellion so long to pick up steam was that it took the Empire a long time to build up both groups. From the creation of the Empire, Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and a handful of others had moral/political objections, but they didn’t care enough to actually put their lives on the line. Meanwhile, the Empire was initially providing good things to the galaxy in the form of security, stability, and economic prosperity. It wasn’t until its policies made it a threat to people’s wellbeing that they received pushback from the population. As the Empire started to enslave the population of Ryloth, slaughter that of Lasan, exploit workers to their deaths on Gorse, kick farmers off their lands on Lothal, and commit various other outrages they alienated both the people they were hurting and people who might otherwise have supported them, including their own soldiers in some cases. The destruction of Alderaan, a prosperous, Core world filled with humans which should have been ‘safe,’ actually hastened the demise of the Empire in a way that the destruction of earlier Outer Rim planets hadn’t because, suddenly, people who thought that they were safe suddenly realized that they weren’t. They realized that, instead of being a source of safety, the Empire was a threat and it was time to protect themselves.

Do you think Dany will pretty much do a Fire&Blood Tour of Essos before sailing to Westeros?Cities of the Old Ghis are pretty much doomed, but I don't hink she'll stop there. I can see Volantis and Pentos (Illyrio!!) falling to her dragons and possibly even Tyrosh (if she decides she has to give Tyrosh to the Tattered Prince). I don't think she gives a shit about Lys and Myr but you never know, since they're both cities that benefitted from the slave trade. And what about Braavos?

Not so much a Fire & Blood Tour as a few pit stops en route to Westeros.

Volantis is almost certainly going to get sacked. Its society is also lopsided and unstable - Dany’s arrival with an army is going to tip the balance there in favour of the enslaved population. Unlike Slaver’s Bay, Dany doesn’t hang around. Pentos is the other major candidate for a sacking, thanks to Illyrio. Not going to hang around there, either, just hand it off to the Tattered Prince and get to fighting Aegon.

In the meantime, Braavos probably stays well clear of Dany’s path, then moves in behind her, continues pushing abolitionist foreign policy, and becomes the preeminent Free City.

Not bait man. Communism and socialism is great in small scale. Like town sized.

Those systems cannot work in small scale, they need to take over a country, enslave its population with its inherent restrictive and destructive methods, to properly “work”, as they need to suck the capital from as many people as possible.
