enjoy food!

Would Krejjh like cake? Yes.

Have they (quick reminder: Krejjh rocks those they/them pronouns) ever had some?

Almost certainly. I mean, Dwarnian mead tastes like pancake syrup, so clearly they enjoy sweet foods. I’m sure that developing some sort of flour (rice, wheat, corn, etc) is not universal to every culture on Earth but it is widespread enough and old enough that it doesn’t seem like a huge jump that a humanoid race of aliens would have done it too. (Sidenote: are they a humanoid race of aliens, or are we a Dwarnianoid race of aliens? I’ve been saying “humanoid” but Dwarnians predate us by a bit, so wow, some Earth-centrism there, oops.)

Has Krejjh eaten human-made cake? Again, I’m going to say that they have. Krejjh is a fairly adventurous eater.

Some cake ingredients, like butter, might be hard to engineer out in space, because cattle require a lot of resources so it would be a hard sell to start up a dairy farm unless you’re on a fairly established planet. Chickens would be much easier/faster to raise, so eggs might be easier to come by but they also don’t travel super well so it might have to be dehydrated egg powder or something.

Sugar and flour would both, of course, require crop-growing and processing but humans gotta carb so I’m assuming space exploration would have only gotten widespread if we figured out that particular wrinkle.

Cacao requires fairly specific growing conditions as I recall, so here’s hoping we have genetically engineered a cacao plant that can survive in space.

I think to the extent that anyone in the crew of the Rumor can cook, none of them are bakers. Probably the person most likely to be able to bake something and have it come out okay is Violet, since she’d bring a scientist’s precision to the whole affair. (Brian would try, if anybody asked him. He would try. I will leave it there.) That said, Violet’s never had much interest in baking and also at this point still wouldn’t be super comfortable digging around in the Rumor’s kitchen.

But I’m guessing any port city on any planet makes a killing off selling stuff you can’t find in space (think convenience stores in a food desert) so probably there’s a decent supply of baked goods there.

Tl;dr yes.

Monday 8:27am
I woke up with you on my mind.
You called me babe last night —
my heart is still pounding.

Tuesday 10:53pm
Today I realized we won’t work.
What we are is hurting her.
And I think she matters more to me than you do.

Wednesday 11:52pm
I broke things off with you today.
She barely said a word.
I’ve never regretted anything more than this.

Thursday 4:03pm
I shouldn’t have sent that message.
You shouldn’t have been so okay with receiving it.

Friday 9:57pm
I almost messaged you today.
I didn’t.

Saturday 8:49pm
I’m walking around town in search of alcohol.
They say that liquor numbs the pain of having a broken heart.
I want to put that to the test.

Sunday 2:32am
I heard you texted a girl you’ve never spoken to before.
I wonder if it’s because you’re trying to replace me.
I can’t help but wish you weren’t.
I thought I was irreplaceable.
