When EN Japanese Brasserie’s 10th-anniversary party takes place at the beloved West Village restaurant tomorrow night, the guest list will be awfully diverse—a fact that didn’t escape the notice of director Cary Fukunaga, when we joined him and EN restaurateur Reika Yo in an upstairs private room last week to discuss the restaurant’s legacy so far.

Ate at my favorite Japanese restaurant in NYC last night - EN Japanese Brasserie. The pic of the sake bottle was really necessary since I know nothing about sake and cannot pick a good one. One of my dining companions picked this unfiltered brand, and it was AMAZING. It looked almost like milk in the glass. I think it’s funny how on the back label, the suggested food pairing is tacos and salsa.

I didn’t get a photo of my salmon sashimi appetizer because I wolfed it down like the animal I am.

Other dishes were oysters (I didn’t eat those), beef short rib slices we cooked at the table over a hot stone, miso black cod (pretty much my favorite dish, any time, anywhere), and pork belly.
