On this day in 1954, the British mathematician and scientist
Alan Turing died. Turing is considered the father of computer science
and artificial intelligence with his invention of the ‘Turing machine’ - a precursor to the modern computer. He was also a crucial part of
England’s code breaking team at Bletchley Park during World War Two, developing ways to
interpret German messages from the Enigma machine. The work of Turing and his fellow code breakers was a great boost to the Allied war effort, supposedly shortening the war by as many as two to four years. However, in 1952 he was
arrested for homosexuality - which was still illegal in Britain -
and accepted chemical castration rather than prison. Turing suffered
side effects from the treatment and two years later died from cyanide
poisoning, supposedly from an apple found by his bed. Whilst some claim
it was accidental, an inquest determined Turing had committed suicide
due to the persecution he suffered. In 2009, following a popular online
petition, Prime Minister Gordon Brown issued a posthumous apology to
“We’re sorry, you deserved so much better” - Gordon Brown, 2009
Surprising Petey with some electronic that he really wanted that he couldn’t afford (or find in the dumpster) for Christmas and cute holiday cuddles by the tree?”
A/N: I made the electronic device a Turing machine, I hope you don’t mind! I love Alan Turing’s work so much. He was an amazing man and did some awesome stuff like invent the premise for modern day computers… (I said earlier he had broken the Enigma- but I’ve learned it was actually the Polish who did it! Their names were
Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Rozycki and Henryk Zygalski, and they deserve the credit! Sorry about that)
A little bit of info for those that don’t know: A Turing machine is a machine that basically changes and manipulates symbols on a roll of tape, or paper, according to some set rules. There’s no specific type of machine. They’re pretty cool, though!
Also, the little easter egg at the end of this fic… hehe… just a little headcanon of mine lol
Your breath puffed out in a cloud before you, the crisp, winter New York air stinging your lungs with every breath. You clutched a green paper-wrapped box in your hands, your gloved fingers holding onto it tightly. The corners bit into the palm of your hand, the paper of the package crinkling softly.
You ran a thumb over the box, feeling excitement rise in your chest. It was the night before Christmas, and you had managed to get something that Peter had been looking for for months. You had found it in a box at the back of the thrift store down the street from your own apartment, resting on top of a mound of random CDs and books like it had been waiting just for you.
As you approached Peter’s apartment building, a couple stray flakes of snow fluttered through the air. One caught you on the tip of the nose, the small flake melting into a tiny drop of water. You jogged the last few steps through the front door, relaxing gratefully when you met the heated air inside. You began the journey up the long flight of stairs to his apartment, making sure to keep the box steady in front of you.
You finally made it to his apartment, managing to knock rapidly with one hand. May answered the door, smiling widely when she saw you.
“Y/N! Come on in,” she said, standing back to allow you to step in. You fit the box past her, setting it down on the kitchen counter with a huff of relief.
“That’s a pretty big box,” May commented, shutting the door and striding into the kitchen.
You nodded. “It’s for Peter.”
At the sound of his name, your boyfriend appeared in the kitchen, his usual earbuds tucked in his ears. He grinned when he saw you, pulling the ear buds out and pulling you into a big hug.
“Hey!” He said, tucking his face into your shoulder.
“Hey, Peter,” you smiled. Peter pulled away, noticing the green box on the counter.
“What’s that?” he asked, raising his eyebrows questioningly.
“I guess you’ll have to see in a moment,” you said teasingly, picking up the box and carrying into his living room. The room was mainly lit by a christmas tree, the red and white lights illuminating the room in a soft mixed glow. You plopped down on the couch, the box on the coffee table in front of you. Peter sat next to you, reaching for the present hesitantly.
“May I open it?” he asked, his hands hovering just above the wrapping paper.
You nodded, pulling your hat and gloves off meanwhile. Peter dug his fingers under the edge of the taped paper, pulling it off carefully. You scooted to the edge of the couch, watching eagerly for Peter’s reaction when he saw what was inside.
He pulled the green paper off to reveal a plain brown box, the flaps folded to keep them down. He pulled them apart, his eyes widening when he saw the contents.
“No way,” he breathed, giving you a surprised look. His mouth hung open, his eyes bright. You just urged him onward. He reached into the box, pulling out the contraption.
“A Turing machine,” he whispered reverently, holding it out in front of him. The base was a little scuffed and the tape was old and yellowed, but to you and him it looked like the most beautiful thing ever.
“I’ve been looking for one of these. They’re normally so hard to find,” Peter said. He ran a careful finger down the edge and the roll of tape. “Where did you get it?”
You shrugged. “I found it at the thrift store. I wasn’t expecting to find it, but there it was.”
“It’s amazing, thank you,” Peter said, setting it down carefully. He put an arm around your shoulders, pulling you into his warm side. You burrowed into him, sighing contentedly. The warm light from the tree lit up Peter’s face, the star at the very top shining brightly.
“I still can’t believe you found a Turing machine,” Peter said, still grinning widely.
“It’s a Christmas miracle, I guess,” you answered, pressing a small kiss to his flushed cheek. But what the two of you hadn’t noticed were the tiny, carved initials at the very bottom.
This is a list of the scents that I am using at the moment.. and have been using for a very long time, actually. I am a sucker for fragrances and love the touch of mystery each and every one of my scents leave on me. I love turning into an enigma. I apply perfume every day and for any occasion and never care about a scent being too ‘heavy’ to wear during the day. And of course I adore the beautiful flacons.
I much prefer full, dark, erotic, spicy and warm scents to fresh and flowery ones, but as so many things in life, there are always exceptions.

It reminds me of the scented black teas that I so love..
L’Ile au Thé is an infusion of well-being, an invigorating and soothing perfume to be shared.
Between the sea and volcanoes, a stroll in the fields of mandarin trees and tea plantations, waving in the wind of an Asian island. The crystalline mandarin bursts into freshness, contrasting, in a soft and soothing breeze, with the tea, green and leathery, and the osmanthus, carnal and fruity, like a caress on the skin…
11.) VANILLE BOURBON by IL PROFVMO
Delicate and irresistable, Vanille Bourbon captivates and enchants your most distant dreams. Crafted from the orchid, the fragrance is intensified with touches of amber, Tahitian Gardenia and heliotrope. Its sunny quality eases the mind and senses.
12.) X by CLIVE CHRISTIAN
According to lore, Cleopatra so adored Egyptian jasmine, gathered from the banks of the Nile at dusk when the flower’s scent is at its headiest, that she doused the sails of her ship with their essence on her journey to meet Mark Antony. As the fragrant breezes of this legendary flower snaked his way, legend has it, Mark Antony fell in love with the Egyptian queen, famous for her love of beautiful perfumes.
A soft and sensual fruity chypre, X for Women complements the soft eroticism of X for Men. Egyptian jasmine is refreshed and made momentarily sharp by fruit notes such as tart rhubarb and juicy peach and pineapple. Vanilla and labdanum soften and enrich those notes, and the perfume is made even more erotic with the X series’ signature note of Karo Karundi, a white flower essence from the West African shrub whose scent recalls the Acacia flower and is reputed to be an aphrodisiac.
The notes in X for Women blend beautifully not only with each other, but also with skin, creating a warm, sweet and luscious skin scent that, like X for men, could be described as approachably erotic. Comforting and stunning.
13.) LOVE IN WHITE by CREED
An ode to Creed’s craftsmanship and passion for the world’s finest ingredients, Love in White combines hand-selected essences from five continents—a fragrant statement of global unity and peace. Created by master perfumer Olivier Creed and inspired by his love of sailing the world’s oceans, this scent is pure freedom. Cultured and polished, it’s no wonder this fragrance is loved by First Ladies. Love in White was honored on its launch day with a most iconic image—the Empire State Building illuminated by pure white lights. A zesty citrus blend grounded by powdery rice husk with cool notes of spring blooms.
14.) LIFE THREADS RUBY by LA PRAIRIE
A saleslady gave me a sample of this perfume because, as soon as she looked at me, she knew what an ‘erotic’ and sensual character I was.. making this scent perfect for me. What a compliment!
Life Threads Ruby is a romantic feminine fragrance for women that is reminiscent of a long quiet walk through a spring garden. Infused with the subtle notes of tangy African orange flower, musky bergamot, sweet jasmine and aromatic ylang-ylang, this classic scent combines warm musky base notes to create an oriental floral fragrance that is ideal for date night or snuggling on the couch with someone special.
There are oh so many more that I am going to try and buy.. I get so excited whenever I imagine my next perfume shopping trip.
There are 23 days to Christmas and I thought I would do something a little bit different. So, everyday till Christmas I will post a book recommendation. It will be a math or math related book of course ^_^ Enjoy
This is a great biography full of interesting concepts and lots of mathematics, engineering and algorithms. I believe this is the first biography I have ever read. I was never captivated by them, even though I tried some I couldn’t get after page 50, so I gave up. But for this one I am still surprised how much I enjoy it.
The book impresses me by the amount of details it offers. I believe that for someone not interested in the work Alan Turing did and the mathematics part around him, probably it is a little hard to read or maybe to technical. But I enjoy it. Finding out about all the mathematical discoveries from that period and their impact on the society is quite interesting. Moreover, the WWII part is again very interesting and informative. Also, I enjoyed the description of the educational system in that period in England. As excepted the book takes us to Alan’s school life and it is quite interesting to find out how school was back then and made me think about how much it evolved (or not) since then.
Moreover, I got extremely interested in the part where Alan works for his idea of “computer” or “brain”. All his ideas are incredible and I got quite shocked and intrigued by the fact that he understood more about computers and artificial intelligence than I thought. For this project, it was interesting (but also frustrating on parts) to see how people didn’t understand him and the political part of UK after the WWII.
I was extremely impressed by how the book handled the things close to his death and the homosexuality issue. I don’t want to give many spoilers about this part, but it was incredibly interesting and made me feel a little emotional in some aspects.
Level of mathematics: From my point of view, this does not require much mathematics - low level;
Personality: Enigma is a scared and lost child. She is easily frightened and very emotional and sensitive. She cannot handle being yelled at. She also has a low tolerance to pain.
Backstory: Enigma was formerly known as Enya a child of Goth and Palette. However due to a tragic past event her parrents Goth and Palette and Enya’s siblings forgot about her ever existing and don’t know that she is family. Enya took on the new name of Enigma and now watches her family from afar hoping one day that her parents and her siblings remember who she is.
Omg, I feel so attacked by Helen’s call to Sally telling she’s leaving Anthony. I’m crying, I’m fucking crying, dead serious. And I’m not even listening.
HP: NO! No! Anthony and I – we had a life! Then he took a government
job and things got hard, but we were strong! He loved me! I trekked out to the
middle of the desert, and never did I once doubt we would be together forever.
He was going to save the humanity and made me believe he could do it. And who
should appear one day but the great enigma that is Sally Grissom? The cherry on
top of a sundae of secrets we’ll all take to our graves, like it or not! You
know, the last time I got up on stage, I just wanted to just replace the words
of a song with every secret I have ever had to keep for you, or Anthony, or
Bill Donovan. Belt them out for this whole benighted little town to hear, with
a double encore!
SG: I feel the same way.
HP: Don’t speak to me like you’re just the same as any normal person,
Sally Grissom! I don’t know what you think is acceptable behavior where you’re
from. Who you were before you fell into our world like a boot to an anthill.
HP: I’m gone, Sally. I’m leaving! I’ve found a manager, for the
singing. They’re going to help me move away, set me up somewhere new.
SG: Helen, what do you want me to do?
HP: Just… Don’t say anything. Don’t tell him.
SG: Then why tell me?
HP: Because now you have to look him in the eye and lie to him. Lie to
him about something he loves. Just like you made him do to me.
SG: …That’s harsh, Helen. That’s… Cruel.
HP: Sally Grissom, you are the worst thing that ever happened to me.
W. T. F
I’m not even listening, but I can hear it perfectly; Helen’s hurt and Sally falling apart…
Seriously, the SFX after the fight shouldn’t be nothing like
[[SFX: Helen hangs up; radio
tuning; a grandfather clock ticks; footsteps approach through the snow outside;
the door opens and Anthony enters, removes his coat]]
Helen hangs up; fans crying in the background; cellphone being unblocked, podcast app being paused; sheets rustling as person lies down; just the small sound of whimpers for the rest of the episode’s lengh]]
ODO YAKUZA TOKYO is an intimate personal account of a Belgian photographer documenting the inaccessible subculture of Japanese organized crime: the Yakuza. Anton Kusters teams up with his brother Malik and documents the inside of the Shinseikai family, who control Kabukicho, the infamous red light district, in the heart of Tokyo. From funerals to covert training camps, business meetings to full on tattoo displays, the modern day enigma that is “Yakuza” in Japan is shown. The feeling of subtlety and underlying tension is present throughout the images. This world we live in is not black versus white, not good versus evil… It is mankind in its many, many, many shades of grey.
Cat Grant is what a charitable soul might call a vocal person. Every thought that she feels the need to express falls from her perfectly-glossed lips the moment she decides the world has to hear it, and more often than not the audience for those bon mots is Kara.
More than words though, even if they are Cat’s stock in trade, there’s an enigma code to unlock in the non-vocal utterances that pepper the working day at CatCo. Huffs of frustration, tongue clicks of impatience, the faint wet noise of lips pursing in disapproval. Kara suffers with that one the most, because of other gentle sucking motions it brings to mind and Rao, it is getting harder and harder to tamp down this crush on her impossible boss.
Lycanthropy is a magical affliction with no known cure that had two simultaneous outbreaks in both Trevain, and Skoggsden. There are two different documented strains of Lycanthropy, “wolf” and “rat” affliction. Among many Lycanthrope communities within Trevain, the term “werewolf” is considered a slur.
The initial cosmic incident that caused the outbreak in both Trevain and Skoggsden are still an Enigma to this day, but studies being conducted at Dogwood Institute in Yorick, Trevain, have shed some light on the nature of the disease.
the main symptom of lycanthropy is the tranformation from man to beast on the night of the full moon, but there are several, less obvious symptoms as well that should be looked out for…
