endangered speicies

Three red-ruffed lemurs were recently born at our National Zoo, and boy do they look excited to meet you.

A critically endangered species, red-ruffed lemurs are native to the forests of Madagascar. Unlike most primates who carry their offspring with them, they usually leave their young in nests while they search for food.

The babies appear to be healthy and strong, and we’ll know their sexes in the next few weeks.
