end apathy

Wade Page was a white supremacist, mass murderer, and domestic terrorist. On the 5th of August 2012 Page entered a Sikh Temple and shot and killed 6 people, wounding a further 4. Page had strong ties to white-superamecist and neo-nazi groups, having formed a band called ‘End Apathy’ which featured prominently in the local white-power music scene. He had also previously been employed in the army, but was discharged following repeated issues with misconduct - including drunkenness and being absent without leave.

The shop where he purchased the gun used in the shooting said that Page’s appearance and behaviour raised ‘no eyebrows’ and that nothing was flagged up on the background check.

Page was shot by police in the stomach during the attack, however this was not what ultimately killed him. After being wounded Page put his gun to the head and pulled the trigger, completing suicide. There was outcry throughout the United States against this attack, and protests were held in India in response to the deaths.

Scientists talk about dark matter, the invisible, mysterious substance that occupies the space between stars. Dark matter makes up 99.99 percent of the universe, and they don’t know what it is. Well I do. It’s apathy. That’s the truth of it; pile together everything we know and care about in the universe and it will still be nothing more than a tiny speck in the middle of a vast black ocean of Who Gives a Fuck.

Regardless of finishing your picture or not, do you mind describing each character's dark and light sides and the reasons for choosing so? You're just too good with words, especially when it comes to explaining Undertale.

I’m still thinking on the light sides, so here’s just dark sides for now!

Rigidness, Forcefulness, Unyielding, Stubbornness

“Regardless of what you might think, this is for your own good”

(Only relents after the battle ends or she dies)

Self absorption, Preoccupied about goals which makes him forget his friends(Undyne, sans. Realises this in genocide partially), Willing to capture and send someone to their unknown doom but too naive to realise this is bad

“I need prestige, popularity, social status! Then everyone will be friends with the greatest person ever, ME!!’

(key difference with mettaton, he uses this as means to an end instead)

Resignation, apathy, partial laziness(partial because he’s kinda both lazy and very hardworking at the same time)

“Why try if you know the result is going to be bad? Why make difficult choices? Just give up, it’s easier”

(Sometimes) Misguided justice, will not listen, persistance for the wrong thing, whoever who’s branded enemy will be hunted down, ruthlessness

“You’re in the way! And I will crush you, because it’s JUSTICE for what the monsters have suffered!“

Self loathing at highly dangerous levels, manipulative, insecure, fearful, escapism, no confidence

“Nobody will like me as I am. And I hate myself, too.”

Wants to be a real star and will step on whoever who is in the way. Though he doesn’t actually want to kill you but he’s willing to use you as a stepping stone to his goal, which might or might not involve you dead.

“Hundreds! Thousands of adoring fans! And their eyes will be on me!”

Torn between duty and what he wants, resulting in inaction. Shuts out his heart. Too soft to make hard choices, and even if it is the right choice, fails to push his own views.

“I am duty bound to do whatever the people wants. As I am king. Irregardless of what I want. I tried doing what I think is right, and that ended poorly.”

Being gentle, compassionate doesn’t work. Ceased to feel love. It’s a dog eat dog world. People will kill you if you’re soft. You will get hurt

“Kill or be killed!”

The overwhelming feeling nothing you do work. Go on. cry for mommy and daddy. That’s right. Nobody came.

“Seems like SAVING is impossible. And you are all alone.”

Fallen Child

The last semblance of humanity has thus faded away. There is nothing left but power and hatred. And you will obliterate everyone in your way to achieve it.

“In my way. Looks like free EXP.”

Happy New Year 2016, TaG Team! I truly meant to get this done by New Years day but a combination of a suddenly chilly house and a whole lot of crippling apathy ended up torpedoing that idea. But here are the two pictures I was working on as sort of a thank you to @space-baegel for her Advent Calendar stories. Since both of us are Pen and Ink trash, it was only fitting to do some holiday pictures.

The first one is more Christmas-themed (and somewhat inspired by @thefabladyinpink’s Christmas Ball thread) but it was also an excuse to draw Gordon and Penny in very fancy outfits. Ignore Gordon’s awkward claw hand, I re-drew that so many times i nearly ripped the paper.

And the second is a nearly-full-cast picture, with of course the New Years kiss front-and-center. I was originally intending to put a countdown from 5-1 and “Happy New Year” in the picture, but I ran out of space :X That’s what I get for drawing it at the bottom of the page instead of using an entirely new page. And I wanted to use some inspiration from the original show for some of the outfits- namely Virgil’s vest outfit, Scott’s jacket and @obscenelybefuddled’s interpretation of one of Tin-Tin’s dresses.

So, here’s to a happy and enjoyable 2016! <3

'Extreme surveillance' becomes UK law with barely a whimper
Investigatory Powers Act legalises range of tools for snooping and hacking by the security services
By Ewen MacAskill

A bill giving the UK intelligence agencies and police the most sweeping surveillance powers in the western world has passed into law with barely a whimper, meeting only token resistance over the past 12 months from inside parliament and barely any from outside.

The Investigatory Powers Act, given royal assent on Thursday, legalises a whole range of tools for snooping and hacking by the security services unmatched by any other country in western Europe or even the US.

The security agencies and police began the year braced for at least some opposition, rehearsing arguments for the debate. In the end, faced with public apathy and an opposition in disarray, the government did not have to make a single substantial concession to the privacy lobby.

US whistleblower Edward Snowden tweeted: “The UK has just legalised the most extreme surveillance in the history of western democracy. It goes further than many autocracies.”

American ISIS

The following is an excerpt from the new afterword of Matt Kennerd’s Irregular Army: How the US Military Recruited Neo-Nazis, Gang Members, and Criminals to Fight the War on Terror, which has just been released in paperback. Kennard’s new book,The Racket: A Rogue Reporter vs. the Masters of the Universe, will be released in April.

Just weeks before the hardcover edition of Irregular Army came out in September 2012, a neo-Nazi US Army veteran walked into a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and shot dead six worshippers. A topic that had never managed to hold the interest of the American media during the War on Terror—the extremists being trained by the country’s military—suddenly moved front and center.

Many Americans wondered how this white supremacist could have survived in the military for so long; surely something must have gone wrong. But the Wisconsin shooter, Wade Michael Page, was merely one of many far-right radicals who have used the US military over the past two decades to gain access to the highest-grade weaponry in the world, alongside attendant training. The Springfield semiautomatic 9mm handgun used by Page in Oak Creek was, for instance, very similar to the Beretta M9, the civilian version of the pistol issued by the US military. And neo-Nazi veterans, like Page, were explicit about wanting to use their new military skills in the coming race war they hoped would ignite in the US. Page’s heavy-metal white-power band, called End Apathy, was itself a call to arms. According to a 2010 interview he gave to a white supremacist website, he wanted to “figure out how to end people’s apathetic ways”; the band was meant to “be the start towards moving forward.”

I think what’s so alienating about being a victim of trauma is coming to the harsh realization that the world keeps spinning despite your’s seemingly coming to an end. others’ apathy towards your hardship makes you question your humanity. effortlessly breaks you, diminishing your sense of value

I have to be careful
Which buttons I press
Especially the big red one
With the heart on it

I can’t help but love
Ending all my apathy

Nuclear sensation
Bringing the dead alive
Infecting every thought of mine
Like an epidemic

Private obliteration
The end of my own little world
As I know it

Revisionist nerd history

I’m quite amused by the recent insistence (on Tumblr and elsewhere in fandom) that no one hated the Star Wars prequels until the fanboy hive mind declared that they were bad (and that the fanboy hive mind is wrong).

Because I distinctly remember marching out of Phantom Menace, physically ill by how angry I was at its awfulness*, and going home and writing, for the very first time, that I hated a movie because not only was it boring and full of interesting ideas that weren’t properly explored, but it was also incredibly racist.

* Baby’s first Action Movie Migraine! These days I take codeine+paracetamol while the trailers play.

I also remember walking out of Attack of the Clones with my best friend, both of us going, “Wow, that sure was a waste of limited uni student money.”  (Bear in mind, the next year, we saw Star Trek Nemesis at the cinema TWICE and had no regrets.)

And I also remember me and a whole bunch of my friends getting spoiled for Padme’s death in Revenge of the Sith and agreeing that we just couldn’t be bothered because what was the point?

I guess my point is, those were my legit film-hate/indifference/irritation-ending-in-apathy experiences, stop erasing them.

Demon!Dean seemed to require some moral justification to kill humans, oddly enough? He never prolonged Death, and didn't seem to relish in torture like demons did. The fight with Cole seemed like him reminding himself that he WAS a demon. Something might have discomforted Dean when he faced with killing Sam, although it wasn't quite killed. He might have pushed Sam so that he could push himself.

I definitely hear what you’re saying and I can certainly conceptualize where you are coming from.

But I gotta say, I don’t agree, man.

The thing about Demon!Dean that gave everyone chills from beginning to end was his apathy. He didn’t care. He didn’t want to care. Dean spent his entire mortal life caring too goddamned much. And he was just fuckin’ done.

But even as a demon existing in the throes of utter apathy, Dean had cracks in his metaphorical chassis. He dropped the roleplay. In small moments. Where everything that made Dean Dean seeped through. It wasn’t about morality. It was about the strength of Dean Winchester’s freakin’ will. Even as a demon…Dean still came through.

That moment after Ann Marie left, playing Hey Jude and slicing open his palm to prove to himself that he was still inhuman…making the choice to kill Lester over his cheating wife… These were cracks in the facade that Dean has been hiding behind his entire life.

Demon!Dean wasn’t about moral justification. He would have killed Sam. I truly believe he would have in that moment had Cas not stepped in and offered both of them mercy. Dean’s remake of Thunderdome with Cole…that wasn’t mercy, man. It wasn’t. It was torture. It was inflicting his lifetime of suffering upon someone else.

If anything, Demon!Dean was about the morally apathetic, subconscious quest to make others suffer the way he suffered in life. Because he was free. But he would never, ever truly be free from being Dean. Because Dean is just too goddamned strong.
