I just celebrated my great-grandma’s 100th birthday today. It’s so incredible and she is truly inspiring.
Anyway, I have a review for the TARTE emphasEYES Amazonian Clay waterproof liner in Black.
This is a gel/cream liner (in all honesty I don’t know the difference). I wasn’t planning on reviewing this because I didn’t have any expectations for it really, but I LOVE IT.
I’ve tried cream liners in the past and just haven’t been impressed by them, so I didn’t think anything of this at first. However, it shocked me. It is extremely creamy and smooth. It applies amazingly. It literally glides on. I use the ELF small smudge brush to apply it on my upper lash line, and it works really well. And it lasts ALL DAY**. It doesn’t flake or wear off.
**Okay, this may be an exaggeration.
There is one downside that I can think of though. It’s not a super dark black when you apply it at first. I usually apply it once, curl my lashes, apply mascara, and then retouch my liner. With the second application it becomes a rich black that I’m content with.
I purchased mine in a value set available at ULTA and Sephora, but you can buy the liner separately for $22 and it comes with a brush! You get 2.5 g of product.
Product Review: Tarte's EmphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow/Liner in Plum
Today’s product up for review is the Tarte’s EmphasEYES Waterproof Clay Shadow/Liner in Plum. For about a month, I decided that I wanted to try a gel liner and like the careful makeup buyer that I am, I read a whole bunch of reviews on different liners such as the ones by Bobbi Brown, MAC and Maybelline. I tried the Maybelline black liner using a friend’s but found that it did fade a little and it flaked although it was fairly easy to apply and very creamy. I also hated the brush it came with. That being said, after reading so many rave reviews about the Bobbi Brown liner, I decided that I wanted to get it. There was only one thing that was stopping me: I dreaded the fact that I had to buy a liner brush in order to use it.
So my hunt continued and all my prayers were answered when I stumbled on a YouTube video about the Tarte gel liners. Not only did I hear they have amazing pigmentation, extremely creamy but it came with a dual-ended brush to apply it as a liner and to smudge it out! The price of these gel liners are $24 which is very pricey but considering it comes with the brush, I feel like it’s a pretty good deal.
The color is BEAUTIFUL. It’s sort of a metallic plum with little shimmers throughout. It applies so easily like you wouldn’t believe. I’ve found that most purple eye products disappoint such as eye shadows. The pigmentation just always falls short for some reason but not this one. It is just so nice and rich. Like I said it is extremely creamy which just makes it so easy to apply; even easier than liquid liners that I’ve used for over 5 years. The liner is seriously waterproof. I washed dishes with the swatch on my hand and it stayed intact! I also tried rubbing super hard and it wouldn’t move. I’m gonna need some series makeup remover to get rid of it each time. Throughout the day there was no fading from the color.
The brush that comes with the liner is incredible. At first glance, I didn’t know whether I would love the liner end because it seemed like the point was not thin enough to get a fine line but once you dip it into the product, the end tapers into a nice point which makes it simple to apply and really easy to wing it out. I’m so happy about this.
The other side of the brush is used if you want to smudge the liner. I applied a little of the liner on my lower lash line and used this end to smudge and found that it did the job nicely. You could also use it to smudge the line on the top lash line but it’s not usually something I do, so it really depends on your preference. Below are a few pictures of me with the liner on.
I am ecstatic about this product and highly recommend it to everybody, especially if you’re just starting out with gel liner or liner in general. This set just makes it so easy to do it. I definitely want to pick up the Indigo color and possibly the Bronze since I don’t have those colors. If only they had a green! This product can be found in Sephora, Ulta or tartecosmetics.com.
