Backfire, A Reactionary Post

Okay, that may not have been the smartest idea…

A Scene Full of Gold

I love the intro it’s similar to ‘There’s no place like home’ although unlike that episode this one is a serious case. It really sets the mood. PAB is shut down, everyone has gone home for the day, except for them. It’s probably in the am, there’s takeout boxes on the table and their still negotiating with their suspect.
One thing I really love about the intro is that it really high lights how deserted PAB is. 99% of the shots in this show are of the actors so it’s really rare when there are no people in the scenes.

Squad Game: How stupid do you think I am?

The Dysfunctional Family

Sharon & Taylor
Always so much wanting to release their videos to the press. He loves using the press more than letting his own people do their jobs. Sharon is always much more strategic about when and when not to release videos and information. But for Taylor anytime the public is (possibly) in danger he wants the media’s attention on it. Sharon is trying to stop a gang war from happening before they have all of their ducks in a row.

Sharon, Jack and Rusty
I love how Sharon always sees right through Rusty. How many times have Emily and Ricky tried to pull ‘I’m sick, I can’t go to school.’?

Birdman (2014) - dir. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

I didn’t include any stills here because that’s just not the point of the film. The point - at least the first, of many - is Emmanuel Lubezki’s breathtakingly original cinematography. This coming from the same man who gave us Gravity, the Tree of Life and my top cinematographic film: Children of Men. The film is daring, rambunctious and absolutely flawless from beginning to end.

This is EXACTLY the kind of film I want to see in theaters. This is also the perfect moment for this particular film to come out. There have been many terrific films in the last decade, but there’s just nothing else like Birdman. I might gush about it more specifically at a later date, but in the meantime do yourself a favor and go see it.
