embryos are not people

A three-day-old human embryo is a collection of 150 cells called a blastocyst. There are, for the sake of comparison, more than 100,000 cells in the brain of a fly. If our concern is about suffering in this universe, it is rather obvious that we should be more concerned about killing flies than about killing three-day-old human embryos… Many people will argue that the difference between a fly and a three-day-old human embryo is that a three-day-old human embryo is a potential human being. Every cell in your body, given the right manipulations, every cell with a nucleus is now a potential human being. Every time you scratch your nose, you’ve committed a holocaust of potential human beings… Let’s say we grant it that every three-day-old human embryo has a soul worthy of our moral concern. First of all, embryos at this stage can split into identical twins. Is this a case of one soul splitting into two souls? Embryos at this stage can fuse into a chimera. What has happened to the extra human soul in such a case? This is intellectually indefensible, but it’s morally indefensible given that these notions really are prolonging scarcely endurable misery of tens of millions of human beings, and because of the respect we accord religious faith, we can’t have this dialogue in the way that we should. I submit to you that if you think the interests of a three-day-old blastocyst trump the interests of a little girl with spinal cord injuries or a person with full-body burns, your moral intuitions have been obscured by religious metaphysics.

[If you think this little guy [picture of an embryo] gets to supersede the right for any of these people who might become pregnant picture of an adult white woman, a teenage white girl, an asian woman, a black woman, and a trans man] To access the medical care that they deem the most appropriate for them, including abortions Regardless of- Why they want an abortion, How they got pregnant, How and if they were using contraception, How old they are, If they were raped or not, If they are in a relationship or not, Whether or not it is medically safe for them to carry a pregnancy to term, Whether or not they can financially afford to carry a pregnancy to term, How it would impact their lives, future, and/or safety; then you should probably know- this little guy [picture of the emryo] is a mouse embryo at 12 days from conception. But honestly, it doesn’t matter.Because even a human fetus does not get to strip people of their right to bodily autonomy. You don’t get to steal people’s kidneys to save someone else’s life. You don’t get to commandeer people’s uteruses to ensure a life is brought into the world. Keep your fingers, your opinions, and your laws out of other people’s internal organs. Let the people who are pregnant worry about their own pregnancy. ]

Why do so many pro-choice people equate singular sperm with an embryo and beyond? Did they not pay attention in high school biology/health?

A single sperm is NOT THE SAME AS A BABY.

Clexa Aesthetics - Jurassic Park Au

Clarke needs money, but fortunately people pay really well for dinosaur embryos. She just needs to steal it.

Lexa just wants to keep the Jurassic Park safe, but unfortunately someone thinks it’s a good idea to steal a car and invade the cryogenic lab.

Unfortunately and fortunately for both of them, someone else is also interested at the embryos. And to get it, they will do everything. Including unlock all dinosaurs cages and unleash chaos at the park.

Trying to survive, Lexa and Clarke will have to join forces…. even if they don’t like it.

re: the immortality issue, & asmodeus

we have frozen an embryo for 20 years and were able to transfer it and it resulted in a viable embryo. we could probably do longer, but we obviously don’t do that because people that freeze their eggs/embryos usually do it so they can have a baby at a later date, and it kind of defeats the purpose of keeping it if they don’t someday implant that embryo.

if we apply this thinking to warlocks, then it doesn’t make sense that magnus’s cells would catch up to him and his age. wouldn’t immortality act as more of a freezing agent? his body structures and cells would be frozen, but by magic rather than actually frozen the way embryos/eggs are, which could result in human error. i’m pretty sure magic that creates a warlock doesn’t have that kind of error.

so magnus giving up his immortality could have and should have resulted in his cells and body structures just pressing play after pausing and he should be able to age as normal, just like that frozen embryo did. they didn’t suddenly become a 19 year old when their cells played catch up, they just defrosted & developed like any ol’ embryo would.

i don’t think his age would be the issue, i think it would be more his body not really knowing what to do without magic, and that would be an interesting sort of lore to examine. what would happen? would his eyes default to cat eyes, or would his glamour take over, or would whatever his “natural” eyes without warlock-marks show up? would his body (namely his muscles, since we saw magnus working out with his magic, so i’m sure that contributes to warlock muscle mass?) be able to function the same way? just how much is magic truly integrated into his physiology?

that sounds much more interesting to me than simon giving up his immortality only to (as @packleaderluke pointed out in this post) be reanimated as a mundane, even though he died.

The fact that people refer to embry as embryo is so funny to me for some reason. I deadass was scrolling and saw a post about embry and saw that nickname and cackled

A lot of people have issues with this line and deem it the shows misgony. But isn’t this taken out of context? No one I’ve seen mentioned what happened leading up to this line, they just have an issue with her saying it. Ersha wanted Embyro to bring back the dead children again and he refused saying that the wouldn’t fit in his new world (harem), he tells her to just forget them and she would be the mother of the new world. She didn’t want this and begged him to bring them back offering herself to save them. He refuses and strangles her saying he thought she was more intelligent (in reality more submissive) than that and leaves expecting her to still following him. If you know this character you know the main thing about her was that she cared dearly for the childern to the point she would die for them. In her awfully painful world they were the only thing she had, this is how Embryo manipulates her when he brings the childern back and promises her he could help her care for and protect them. When she realizes that she was deceived and lost the children because of this one has to think the mental toll this took on her. She blames herself for falling for this, she calls herself shallow because she was so focused on the childern that she couldn’t see that she was being used. Calling herself a whore is more related to her low self-esteem and mental state at this time, like some abuse victims (i know from experience) you can end up blaming yourself for this abuse. See her for what she is, a victim. Someone walked in promising her peace and happiness but instead only used and abused her. Praise her for realizing her mistake and what has happened to her, unlike Salia she saw the real Embyro and left the situation. Praise her for the strength she had to leave an abusive relationship and hate the person who did this all to her in the first place, Embryo.

A handful of scientists around the United States are trying to do something that some people find disturbing: make embryos that are part human, part animal.

The researchers hope these embryos, known as chimeras, could eventually help save the lives of people with a wide range of diseases.

One way would be to use chimera embryos to create better animal models to study how human diseases happen and how they progress.

Perhaps the boldest hope is to create farm animals that have human organs that could be transplanted into terminally ill patients.

But some scientists and bioethicists worry the creation of these interspecies embryos crosses the line. “You’re getting into unsettling ground that I think is damaging to our sense of humanity,” says Stuart Newman, a professor of cell biology and anatomy at the New York Medical College.

The experiments are so sensitive that the National Institutes of Health has imposed a moratorium on funding them while officials explore the ethical issues they raise.

Tumblr, stop treating people with different views like scum. Do you people really need to enforce the idea that it’s not okay to be pro-life? Just because I believe that killing embryos is wrong doesn’t mean that you have the right to mock, harass, or bully me, as if I deserve to be punished for having an opinion. Also, treat others the way you want to be treated. So shut up, and leave me alone!

So I had 2 partho eggs left, Timrod and Slimrod. Timrod stopped developing a while ago, and succumbed to mold so I decided to cut it open because I am a bio student and that shit’s cool. Low and behold, to stuff in the face of my doubting father, I found a decently developed embryo! Under the cut in case that disturbs people!

**I did this out of curiosity and personal interest in biology, I do not mean to be disrespectful of this tiny life in any way just to clarify! like I literally almost cried because look at how close I was to having a little baby guys. The names are silly, and the tone is silly, but this was amazing and I cherish this little unborn jellybean.

  • Capricious, all powerful, shapeshifting, cat foetus GOD - is that not a bit unsettling?
  • In the first movie, after dicking around, is totally up for fighting to the death with mewtwo, not really giving a shit about the other pokemon. Also, doesn’t give two shits when Ash sacrifices himself. Mewtwo, the “bad guy”, shows shock and remorse, meanwhile mew is like lol whatevs
  • In the 8th movie - kidnaps pokemon from the castle on a regular basis, for them never to be seen again. Also doesn’t think twice about taking Sir Aaron’s and Lucario’s life to save its pet tree rock or whatever
