I like to think one year after the war they would go back to Ember Island to see the new play, and hopefully they’d be a little happier with it this time around (and yes, Zuko wanted to bring Azula too, and you can see how amused she is–and no, Suki is just looking after her because someone had to do it, she’s still with Sokka though)
(also, sorry, Zutara and subtle Tokka. I couldn’t draw it any other way. not sorry)
There are ships that don’t end up being canon and you’re like ‘ah well that’s too bad, could’ve been something special’ then there’s ships THAT YOU KNOW WERE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER AND HAD A RELATIONSHIP LIKE NO ONE ELSE EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE NEVER EVEN TOGETHER BUT THE STUPID WRITERS Or PRODUCERS DID A DUMB BORING PREDICTABLE AND ONE-SIDED SHIP INSTEAD BECAUSE THEY’RE STUPID MALES WHO WANTED “THE HERO TO GET THE GIRL” SO THEY COULD SELF INSERT THEMSELVES INTO THAT CHARACTER AND FEEL LIKE THEY GOT THE GIRL EVEN THOUGH THE HERO WAS TWELVE YEARS OLD AND DID NOT HAVE THE SAME LEVEL OF EMOTIONAL MATURITY AS THE GIRL AND DIDN’T RESPECT HER FEELINGS, BUT YOU KNOW, WHATEVER, BECAUSE THE HERO ALWAYS HAS TO GET THE GIRL AND IT’S BEEN EIGHT YEARS BUT IT STILL RIPS MY INSIDES APART AND MAKES ME WANT TO CLAW MY EYES OUT AND I’LL STILL BE IN THIS PLACE IN ANOTHER EIGHT YEARS AND I’M GOING TO BE BITTER FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE AND I’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO TRULY DIE HAPPY BECAUSE THIS IS ALWAYS GOING TO TORMENT ME.

Ok, So, we all know Toph can’t swim (”Actually, it’s me” *snorts*) ANYWAY! So imagine she gets Zuko and Katara to teach her.
So, Toph blackmails Zuko into taking a vacation and together they go get Katara and kinda accidentally kidnap her
“Look, Katara, I can explain! If you don’t want to come then–”
“Sir! The anchor just raised itself!”
“DAMN IT TOPH! YOU SAID WE COULD TALK TO HER ABOUT THIS”
Anyway, they go to ember Island and Zuko and Katara have to team up to help Toph learn to swim and keep her moral up because she hates being helpless and you’re getting both of them being very parental at Toph and being obnoxious but secretly loving every second of it cause her relationship with her real parents is still tense and, it’s just super cute and Ember Island works it’s magic and GAH! FEELS! I HAVE THEM! TO THE DOCUMENT!!
Zuko notices Ruon-Jian looking at Mai and automatically suspects that Mai likes him.
Later that night, Zuko sees Ruon-Jian trying to talk to Mai ,and goes into a jealous rage that involves him first shoving him aside, and then pushing him into a vase.
This causes Mai to call Zuko out on his bad behavior, which Zuko responds to by insulting Mai, instead of actually addressing the issue.
It’s at this point that mai decides tio break up with Zuko.
However, despite their breakup, Zuko tries to initiate physical intimacy with Mai (a behavior that is kind of repeated in “Smoke and Shadow,” though that takes a different form), much to Mai’s displeasure..
When they finally do get back together at the end of the episode, it’s on Mai’s terms.
Katara confronts Aang about why he walked out of the play.
They talk about their feelings.
Aang makes a mistake by deciding to kiss Katara.
Katara calls him out on it and walks away.
A stunned Aang turns back and calls himself an idiot before returning to see the rest of the play.
Aang doesn’t try to confront Katara, or initiate anything the rest of the night.
