Can we just talk about how beautiful this performance was?
For those of you who have had the pleasure of experiencing @hiddenfiguresmovie in the theater, and those who also read Margot Lee Shetterly’s book with which the film was adapted from, I know you’ve had this soundtrack on repeat in your mind ever since. Pharrell Williams did that screenplay so much justice, and as someone who has seen the dude perform live, he absolutely emits and illuminates grace and dedication to everything he does.
On Friday’s episode of The Ellen Show, DeGeneres read a letter from Muslim refugee Ekhlas Ahmed, who shared her story of coming to the U.S. unable to learn English and eventually learning the language by watching DeGeneres’ daytime show and transcribing everything she said.
DeGeneres brought a tearful Ahmed, who is now a graduate student, activist and high school English teacher, onto the stage to speak with her after reading the letter Ahmed wrote to her. Read more. (2/18/17, 1:53 PM)
“In a career spanning three decades, Ellen DeGeneres has lifted our spirits and brought joy to our lives as a stand-up comic, actor and television star. In every role, she reminds us to be kind to one another and to treat people as each of us wants to be treated. At a pivotal moment, her courage and candor helped change the hearts and minds of millions of Americans, accelerating our nation’s constant drive toward equality and acceptance for all.
Again and again, Ellen DeGeneres has shown us that a single individual can make the world a more fun, more open, more loving place so long as we ‘just keep swimming.’”
DeGeneres wasn’t the only one that saw the irony in Trump’s movie choice. Her co-star, Albert Brooks, who voiced Marlin in both Finding Dory and Finding Nemo, tweeted, “Odd that Trump is watching Finding Dory today, a movie about reuniting with family when he’s preventing it in real life.”
