dupes/alternatives masterpost pt. 2 [focusing more on color]

hi this is a part 2 to my dupes masterpost. these dupes are from super hard research that i did, instagrammers, youtubers, bloggers, etc. remember these are dupes AND alternatives, meaning they may not be the exact same in color, performance, quality, wear time, texture, etc. but i tried my absolute best to find alternatives that are as similar as possible. also i want to promote more indie/black owned makeup brands, the latter will be labeled with (b.o.m.b.). some of these products you can purchase at either sephora or ulta. if you can i recommend shopping at ulta because their rewards system is a x1000 better. i personally recommend researching products and their formulas to see which you like the best, the cheaper product doesn’t always mean it’s a better deal. this is a list mostly if you want to find alternatives to brands you’re boycotting, trying a new brand, making sure you don’t have similar colors in your collection, etc. there are so many makeup products out and you never need to buy in the hype of a product, there are a ton of products that are similar. i also recommend watching kimberly clark’s anti haul videos, stephanie nicole review videos, and scrolling through the makeuprehab subreddit page to be a smarter consumer and have less unnecessary buys.

Give Face for Real Cheap: The Best Beauty Products That Are Basically Under 10 Bucks (in the US)

I want you lovely people to be able to give major face, even on a budget. I know a lot of you are on a ramen noodle/well whiskey drink budget. I feel that. Makeup can be extraordinarily expensive, and although I’ve gotten some shit for making lists about drugstore makeup by people who believe drugstore makeup is crap (and if any makeup, drugstore or otherwise, irritates your face, return it immediately/set it on fire), I still stand by all this stuff. I’ve waded through a lot of drugstore dog doo for this, and I think it’s a strong compilation of good, long-lasting, all-skin-tones, not cheaply made stuff. Also–do you have faves you don’t see? Hi Olivia!! I hope you had a good holiday!! I was wondering what lipsticks (or general makeup) you would recommend and any tips you have because you always look so great and I'm just starting to do makeup, thank you!!!

thank you so much bby i hope the holiday season has been good to you as well! just a lil note: all of the makeup that i buy is inexpensive and mainly from the drugstore; my few higher end products were gifts! i don’t like to spend a ton of money on makeup bc i can’t really afford to, but i’m also very picky and particular about the quality of my makeup, so i wouldn’t recommend any of these products if i didn’t absolutely love them!

lipsticks and other lip products

  • nyx soft matte lip cream
  • nyx liquid suede lipstick
  • nyx matte lipstick
  • nyx lip liner
  • wet ‘n’ wild matte lipstick
  • colourpop ultra matte liquid lipstick
  • elf matte lip color
  • elf lip exfoliator
  • eos lip balm (a lot of ppl don’t like eos but it works for me)

general makeup products

  • l’oreal infalible pro matte liquid foundation (medium coverage and great for oily/combo skin)
  • hard candy contouring trio (it’s actually just bronzer, blush, and highlight)
  • too faced chocolate soleil bronzer
  • anastasia beverly hills contour kit (thank you becca)
  • becca shimmering skin perfecter (thank you again becca)
  • morphe eyeshadows
  • elf eyeshadows
  • nyx micro brow pencil
  • nyx translucent finishing powder
  • nyx matte setting spray
  • urban decay all nighter setting spray

  • real techniques miracle complexion sponge

I'm relatively new to makeup and I'm planning on going shopping to the drugstore and sephora but I don't know what to buy. Can you please give me advice and recommendations?

things to get from sephora/highend:
foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, brow product, eyeshadow primer

• i can’t really recommend a foundation that’s perfect for you because it depends on everyone’s skin type and preferred coverage, my my all time favorite is the Makeup Forever HD foundation (natural finish, medium coverage). i have a foundation 101 post that may be useful, and if you go to tagged/oily and what not i have previously answered questions about that skin type!
• concealer also depends on your preference, but i typically look for something that is easy to blend, lightweight and has good coverage. my favorites are the Nars radiant creamy concealer and the Urban Decay naked concealer. if you want something for undereye circles i love my Tarte under eye cc. for blemishes i like using the Makeup Forever full cover concealer (waterproof, too!).
• powder is important because it can make or break the face. it can set your makeup and give a flawless finish OR make your skin look super cakey. a really good powder amazing for all skin types/tones is the Makeup Forever HD powder. if you want a very glowy look, i recommend the Hourglass ambient lighting powders
• bronzer is another product you should get highend because a lot of drugstore bronzers can be too muddy, sheer, orange. i recommend getting the Bobbi Brown bronzing powders, they come in a lot of shades. you could also get a non matte bronzer to warm up the skin- i love the Kat Von D shady business bronzers for that.
• brows…. anastasia beverly hills is your best friend. I would start off with trying out the brow powders or pencils.
• eyeshadow primer in my opinion is a super necessary step before eyeshadow. i recommend Urban Decay primer potion, and if you have really oily eyelids, get the Nars smudge proof eyeshadow base!

things to get at the drugstore:
brushes, blush, highlighter, eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick

• I recommend the real techniques, eco tools, sonia kashuk and elf brushes- they’re very good quality! message me for any specific brushes but these brands i think have the best in the drugstore!
• for blush, I really recommend the ELF studio blushes and the NYX powder blushes. very pigmented and there’s a lot of shade selection!
• for a powder highlight, I recommend ELF golden bronzer and Hard Candy tiki. Both of these are gorgeous. for a liquid highlight, I recommend the NYX born to glow liquid illuminator and the Revlon photoready skinlights
• especially if you’re just getting into makeup, I recommend getting an eyeshadow palette! you can get some at sephora but the drugstore has a lot of good quality eyeshadow palettes. I just recently answered a question about the eyeshadow palettes i recommend from the drugstore so you can click here to see that. also, the Loreal infallible eyeshadows are SO amazing (so pigmented and buttery). Also the Maybelline cream eyeshadows are great!
NYX hands down has the best lip liners in the drugstore so check them out :)
• for lipsticks, I recommend Wet N Wild megalast lipsticks, NYX soft matte lip creams, and the Maybelline the buffs lipsticks (you’ll find a nude shade for any skin tone)

My Top 10 Never-Fail Products and Why!

▫ Too Faced Brow Envy Kit - I love this brow kit because it has everything needed for a flawless brow (wax, browbone highlight, brow pencil, brow stencils, brow powders in blonde & brunette, a spooly brush, wax brush, and tweezers).

▫ NYX Butter Gloss in “Creme Brulee” - This is probably my most worn lip color ever. I love that it’s pigmented without being too difficult to apply. The shade is almost a perfect match for my natural lip color so it goes with any makeup look I decide to do.

▫ Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base - In one easy step you’ve got a moisturizer, sunscreen, redness canceler, and a primer. I use this stuff everyday whether I wear makeup or not!

▫ Urban Decay Naked Palette - This is definitely my most used palette of all time. I love the warmth, pigmentation, and quality of the shadows in this palette. There are plenty of gorgeous looks you can create and if I want something quick and easy, this palette is perfect.

▫ Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer - Whether I want an exaggerated contour or something soft, this bronzer does it. It’s easily blendable plus it smells super sweet!

▫ NYX Butter Balm in “Panacotta” - This is probably the easiest wearing lip product I own - not too thick, not too dry, not too wet. It’s the perfect texture and shade for a natural look.

▫ Too Faced Lip Injection in “Bee Sting” - This is (once again) a really natural lip color for me. The cool part about this product is that it actually plumps your lips and helps them look fuller.

▫ MAC Beauty Powder in “Pretty Baby” - This makes a super natural and matte pinky-peach blush shade that works well with any look.

▫ ELF Studio Blush in “Tickled Pink” - I love the way this blush brightens my skin, it makes my complexion look fresh and doesn’t take away from any look I decide to do.

▫ Urban Decay Eyeshadow in “Sin” - I absolutely adore this shadow, and yes, it can be found in the Naked palette (but I used all of mine up so I purchased the single and have already hit pan on that too). The reason I love this shadow so much is because it’s so brightening and gorgeous on the eye. I like to use it in my inner corners or all over the lid.

• rimmel stay matte powder
• maybelline clear brow gel
• elf eyebrow kit
• elf golden bronzer
• nyx cream blushes
• elf studio blushes
• elf eyelid primer
• l'oreal infallible eyeshadows
• maybelline define a lash waterproof and rocket waterproof mascara
• wet n wild mega last lipsticks
• nyx soft matte lip ceams

that’s all i could think of right now!
i didn’t add pictures to this post because it would take up like 70% of your dash

1. ELF Studio blushes

Amazing quality for only $3. All of the shades are highly pigmented, easy to blend, and long wearing.

2. Forever 21 nail polish

Every color and type (matte, glitter, shimmer) is shiny, long lasting, and opaque. Most take two coats at most.

3. Flower BB cream

Although I’ve never jumped on the BB cream band wagon, I must say I love this one. It’s the first BB cream that I’ve found to be medium-full coverage and actually seems to fill in pores and give a natural finish.

4. Revlon PhotoReady bronzer

A non-orangey matte bronzer from the drugstore! While it’s similar to the NYC “Sunny” bronzer, it’s a slightly deeper, more blendable formula.

5. Revlon Lash Potion mascara

With a few coats of this mascara your lashes will be full and lengthy without clumps.

6. ELF Wet Gloss

The perfect inexpensive brow gel to keep your brows in place all day.

7. Rimmel Stay Matte powder

This powder keeps your face matte all day while giving slight coverage and is compact enough to carry with you throughout the day.

8. Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows

One of the first cream shadows I’ve actually enjoyed using. These are great as eyeshadow bases or used on their own.

9. NYX round lipsticks

Easy to wear, opaque, creamy, and relatively long lasting. Plus they have a ton of gorgeous shades.

10. ELF HD powder

Another great way to keep your face free of oil. One great thing about this powder is how finely milled it is, patting this on with a large fluffy brush will help reduce the appearance of pores.

11. NYX Butter Gloss

Long wearing with a variety of pretty shades that aren’t too opaque or too sheer. Can be worn over a lipstick or on their own.

12. Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer

The fullest coverage concealer I’ve ever used. Great for concealing blemishes or hyper pigmentation. Easy to blend out.

13. Maybelline Master Drama eyeliner

One of the best liners for the waterline. Stays put all day long, rich in color, and easy to apply.

What's your favorite highlight/contour products?

Highlighter, contour and blush are my favourite ways to sculpt the face and since I’m addicted to all these products I’ve managed to build up a few favourites over the years…

  • Makeup Forever Flash Color Case (Shade 023 Brown)

If you’ve watched my contouring video you’ll know I’m a huge fan of this creamy formula; it blends beautifully into the skin and looks natural.

  • Benefit Hoola Bronzer

This is an amazing matte bronzer that blends beautifully, it is hard to stuff up your contouring with this product. (A good budget friendly option which is in my opinion almost identical to this product is the Essence Sun Club Matte Bronzing Powder)

e.l.f. Studio Blush

I’ve heard so much about Elf studio blush being a dupe of NARS blush, so I had to try them out. Most people are blowing smoke if they think if Elf is comparable in quality to NARS. The only thing they have in common is the packaging is sort of similar. But regardless of all that, you really get what you pay for when you buy this blush. Elf Studio Blush is very soft and sheer. Great for anyone wanting that more natural flush. I did find it hard actually put a heavier application on, so the pigmentation would be a little bolder. Even if you try to build it up the blush fades after 3 hours. I wasn’t too impressed with this blush. And I knew going into it, it was going to be a dud. As I said earlier you really get what you pay for.
