I know everyone’s on a Brand New high after the post-hardcore/emo rock legends released their first new album in eight long years, but how’s about some Brand Newas you’ve never heard it before? Los Angeles’ Luna Shadows, that ever dependable purveyor of enchanting mystical pop, has shared a cover of Brand New’s Jesus Christ from their 2006 album The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. Jesus Christ has never felt more hauntingly ethereal on this beautiful pop re-imagination. With a light touch, tinkling keys, and airy fluttering vocals, Luna Shadows bathes us in wistful melancholy. Her cover feels celestial, as if it belongs with the stars, yet it’s also feels as if it’s deeply intertwined with the familiar and intimate recesses of our hearts. Donald Glover aka rapper Childish Gambino has recently made it clear that the Childish Gambino “project” may be drawingto a close sooner than later, and here he showcases a completely different side with this new cover of one of Bruno Mars’ most popular tracks “Marry You” which includes no rapping, but only singing. It looks like Passion Pit is as huge a fan of Elohim as we are, as tough as it might be to match our level of appreciation of Elohim’s artistry and music. How can we tell? I’d say it’s pretty convincing evidence when Michael Angelakos records a cover of Elohim’s All That Gold and offers it to the world. All That Gold was originally one of many groundbreaking electronic pop songs off of the visionary artist’s self titled EP from last year. Angelako’s seraphic cover feels like it’s made up of delicate shards of glass, each one gently reflecting a wavelength of light, culminating in an ethereal prism thoroughly enchanting and softly entrancing. It’s a beautiful approach on Elohim’s dreamy wafting, chiffon drifting gem. Elohim’s outstanding self-titled EP is available from iTunes, here.

retire on. The kind of gig you should
have had years ago. The Spot, Electro,

As soon as you hit the play button, you’ll recognize who and what the Soulection signed Indonesian artist edits on the alluring, seductive downtempo R&B song. Mura Masa crafts a late night aperitif out of Childish Gambino’s cover of Usher’s U Don’t Have To Call, giving it a minimalist, jazzy atmosphere and a velvety smoothness.
