effortlessly funny

okay but can we just talk about how great it is that seokjin is going on all of these variety shows and how hes so silly and effortlessly funny and honestly really good at it??? and like this boy whos been relentlessly told that hes useless to the group, talent-less, unfunny, just a pretty face, etc. continues to be praised and complimented by show producers and by people who have been in the entertainment industry for years??? like im so proud of him and im so happy that he’s been given the opportunities to shine through doing these shows. he deserves it. so much.

I’ve always thought that Dan and Phil were like a yin yang, and I find it adorable. Just think about it…

1) Dan has a younger brother, Phil has an older brother.

2) Dan’s from the south, Phil’s from the north (and they met together to finally live more in the middle).

3) Dan has a dark aesthetic while Phil’s is much lighter and brighter (and their home, and their often shared wardrobe choices, are a combination of both).

4) Dan’s left-handed and Phil is right-handed (when, again, they can meet in the middle and sign things at the same time).

5) Dan lacked confidence while Phil always exuded it and as served as inspiration.

6) Dan is often witty, biting, and sarcastic while Phil is cheerful and effortlessly funny.

7) Even their appearances are complementary: Dan (despite being pale lately) is naturally tan with brown eyes. Phil is naturally pale with blue/green/yellow eyes.

8) Their fringes sweep in the opposite directions. What are he chances of that, seriously.

9) Probably least importantly, but still interesting, Dan dropped out of college and Phil got a Master’s degree.

I could go on.

Of course I ship Phan, but this isn’t even about that. They complement each other perfectly, and I think we can all agree that they were meant to be in some capacity. They also have so much in common where it counts that I don’t see their dynamic being any more perfect.

And I thought this sh*t only existed in cheesy fairytales… well, I guess it’s supposed to be cheesy.

I thought of more.

10) Dan’s high-pitched voice and Phil’s low-pitched voice. They can, and do, sing duets together perfectly.

11) Dan was born in the summer, and Phil was born in the winter

12) Dan’s earrings and Phil’s lack of them (because, according to Dan, his personality is “too adorable” for them, but I guess Dan’s isn’t).

13) Dan’s tendency to waffle on while Phil listens patiently, yet his still clear respect and admiration for everything Phil says.

14) Dan’s more serious vs. Phil’s more lighthearted nature (look at “The Urge” vs. “The Hand”).

15) **last-minute add because jfc I thought of another one: Dan’s naturally wavy hair and Phil’s naturally straighter hair.

16) And this is a big one: Dan’s love for cursing, bad language, and being inappropriate and Phil’s desire to keep things PG. Like I’ve said for different points above, they often meet in the middle here on their collabs and it’s perfect (most of Phil’s innuendo is in these vids and not when he’s alone, so being together and compromising on their humor creates comedy gold).

Dan’s said in recent interviews that he and Phil disagree often about things, and Phil admitted that they think “quite differently”, yet they “always find a compromise.” This is so rare and beautiful.

Much like their fringes, they always meet in the middle.

Alla Prima- Chapter 4

Prologue   Chapter 1   Chapter 2   Chapter 3

The name echoed in whispers in his mind, vibrating in his head. Such a simple name, really. Short, one syllable, clipped. Really, truly just a name. No, it was the woman it belonged to that made it special. That made Jamie want to elongate the name, taste every letter.

It was his own personal poem, musical and song-like. A lullaby that dreamily drifted through his ears, lulling him into calmness.

And why should he feel so strongly about this woman? A woman he just met. A practical stranger.

He knew why, of course. No, it wasn’t just her beauty, though that didn’t hurt his impression of her. She was smart. Professor smart. Biology professor smart. And effortlessly funny. And kind. But, most of all, she was transparent. He felt as if he knew her in one conversation; her eyes stained glass windows into her mechanical mind, her face twisted with every emotion she felt.

He was infatuated with her: her voice, her eyes, her smile, her mind…

He tested her name out again, speaking to the darkness of early morning:

“Jamie? Jamie!” He shook himself from his thoughts, the large dining room coming into focus. His sister was speaking to him.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“What’s going on with ye, Jamie? Yer mind is somewhere else.” Jenny’s eyebrows were drawn in concern. Yes, his mind was elsewhere, but he wasn’t prepared to tell his family exactly where.

“Oh, aye. I’m just…tired. I was up late last night.” Jamie glanced around the table at his family.Sunday dinner at Jenny’s, a tradition that they had started when their father died. The family had grown since then, though. Jenny married Ian, Willie married Nora. Both couples had spawned 2 children each, and Jenny was round with another.

“Ye need to get more sleep, Sawny. Yer not sleeping enough,” Willie interjected.

“Sawny…Sawnyyyyyy…” Willie’s youngest, Elinor, sang sleepily, and dropped her head on her father’s shoulder.

“Aye, I ken. Just, ye never know when ye’ll be inspired.”

“I dinna understand it a bit,” Willie admitted, taking a large bite of pasta. “But I’ll always support ye. However. Ye need to be healthy.”

“I’ll work on it.” Willie placed his hand on his brother’s shoulder, squeezing slightly, before turning his full attention to the meal in front of him. A bottomless pit, that man was.

“Anyway, Jamie,” Jenny interjected. “I was asking what yer working on now?” With a little bit of natural artistic talent, but never taking it further than that, Jenny was always interested in Jamie’s ‘next big project.’

“Ach, just small canvases. Nothing special, really.” Very special, actually, but Jamie didn’t want to tell them about Claire.

“Nothing special? Ye just said yer getting inspired in the middle of the night!” Jenny laughed, blue eyes crinkling.

“Weel, I’ve just been painting…pretty things. Flowers and such. Nothing too…inspired. Just, when it’s in my heid, I have to do it, ken?”

“Nay, but I’ll pretend I do.” Jenny wasn’t convinced, and Jamie knew it. The way her eyes narrowed, and lips pursed; that was her concentration face. He would be asked about it when they were alone. He should definitely leave before there was a chance of that. “How’s the meal, loves?”

“Fantastic as always, sis,” Willie mumbled through a mouthful.

“Chew wif yer mouf closed, Da,” Elinor woke up long enough to say.

“Aye, Peach. Thank ye.”

It was unusual for Jamie to go to the park after Sunday dinner, but there he was. It wasn’t a conscious decision; his body was heading in that direction before his mind could catch up.

He saw Claire from a distance, her dark mane hard to ignore. Instead of sitting on her usually bench, she was pacing the path, stretching her arms above her head.

Suddenly, she doubled over, grabbing her foot.

“Fuck!” Claire whined, examining her toe. Just a scrape, nothing life-threatening. But, a stubbed toe never felt too good.

“Watch her mouth. There are children present.” She jumped, unaware she had company. She turned to face her companion, a man with the sunset in his hair and a smirk on his lips.

“Jamie! You frightened me!” He blushed.

“I’m sorry, I dinna mean to.” He looked positively abashed with his pink cheeks and downcast eyes.

“No! It’s fine. I wasn’t expecting you. How are you?”

“Good, good. Just had dinner. Are ye alright?” He motioned to her foot, which she was still holding onto.

“Oh, yes. A stubbed toe.” She winked. “I think I’ll survive.”

“Good to hear, Sassenach.” Sassenach? What does that mean. She was about to ask, but he cut off her thoughts. “So…um…can I ask ye something?”

“You just did.” A dumb joke, she knew, but she wanted to see him smile again.

It worked.

“Aye. Another thing, then.”

“Of course.”

“Do ye… Could I, maybe, get yer phone number?” Whatever she was expecting…that was not it. She was undoubtedly pleased.

“Oh. Um. Yes, let me see your phone.”

“Let me see yers as well.” They swapped phones, typing numbers furiously.

“You can text me anytime, Jamie.”

“Aye, I will. I mean, yes. Sure.” Flustered. He was flustered, and it warmed Claire to know she had such an effect.

“I better be off. Got to be up early tomorrow. But… I’ll speak with you soon?”

“Ye will.”

Jamie woke with a start, the shrill ringing of his cell phone hitting his sensitive ears. What time was it?

2:54 a.m. the clock told him.

He glanced over at his phone on the nightstand. And thrill ran through him. Underneath the bold name “Claire Beauchamp,” was a picture of her, taken not 12 hours ago. He didn’t realize she had put a photo in her contact information. He didn’t realize she took a picture at all.

But, even more surprising, why was she calling him? He wasn’t angry or annoyed, quite the opposite really. It was just…a shock.

Steeling himself, he pressed the little green button in the corner.

Newly Revealed Character Proves Thor: Ragnarok Will Be Even Funnier Than Expected

Director Taika Waititi debuts his comedic sidekick role.

With a very popular trailer already out, Marvel fans probably thought they already knew everything there was to know about the cast of Thor: Ragnarok. Cate Blanchett is a goth; Tessa Thompson is a bad-ass warrior; Jeff Goldblum is, well, Goldblum. But it turns out that the film also features a pair of characters that Marvel has been carefully keeping under wraps—until now.

Marvel invited a small group of journalists into its newly renovated offices on the Disney Studios lot Monday night to unveil footage, art, and secrets behind the studio’s packed upcoming slate. Thor director Taika Waititi was on hand to reveal one of the new characters in Ragnorak, played by … Taika Waititi.

His name is Korg, “like the piano,” Waititi announced, before showing off some concept art and rough footage. Korg is a Kronan, a.k.a. a hulking rock beast from the comics—think a gladiator version of the Rockbiter from The Neverending Story, or a more nimble The Thing. Waititi jokingly said that because the creature was made of rocks and needed to be effortlessly charismatic, warm, and funny, he wanted to cast Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the role. But because “there wasn’t enough chicken and salmon in New Zealand” to sustain the muscles of both The Rock and Chris Hemsworth, Waititi said, he instead cast himself in the mo-cap part.

This is excellent news for fans of both Waititi and the universally well-received tone of the Thor: Ragnarok trailer. When Hemsworth dropped that “he’s a friend from work” line in the trailer, Waititi aficionados immediately recognized the writer/director/actor’s trademark wit. (He’s also the reason why those recent Thor roommate videos are so hilarious.) That wit can easily be seen on display in Waititi’s work on Flight of the Conchords, What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Boy, and more. Waititi almost always appears in his own films and, just as he did in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, the New Zealand-born director will be laying on a lilting Māori accent for Ragnarok.

The reason Thor fans haven’t seen Korg yet is that he’s still a work in progress, design-wise. The character technically made his debut in Thor: The Dark World, where the Asgardian destroyed him with one quick uppercut.

But the character is getting a kinder, gentler makeover (both physically and emotionally) for Ragnarok. The new design allows for more range of emotion and expression on the Kronan’s face, which will come in handy as he befriends Thor and shows him the ropes. The scene screened for journalists featured Waititi in what he referred to as “emasculation pajamas” (a phrase coined by Mark Ruffalo), a.k.a. a gray mo-cap suit, drolly explaining to a confused and wound-up Thor how Goldblum’s intergalactic gladiatorial fighting ring operates. Waititi joked that in the most recent Korg concept art, the Kronan had been given “the latest” fashion when it comes to leather battle man-kinis. “In New Zealand,” he said with a grin, “this is what we wear.” But the motion tests Waititi showed prove that Korg isn’t all smiles and man-kinis. He’s also got a massive club and, when it comes to fighting, is something of a “slugger.”

The other space fighter potentially joining Thor and Hulk in the ring is Miek, another comic book character that Waititi describes as “insectoid with a crab mouth.” Miek—who also comes from the comics—is a more nimble fighter. The inclusion of “Planet Hulk” comic characters like Miek and Kronan in Ragnorak is great news for book purists—but the addition of Waititi to the cast is good news for everyone.

I feel like being confident, loud and extroverted is so overpraised in our culture. There’s nothing wrong with these things but I’m so here for my shy guys and girls.
The ones who are often overlooked and talked over. The people who aren’t effortlessly cool and funny the moment you meet them. People who are a little bit awkward, who get nervous in social situations. The ones who take time to open up and get comfortable around you, but once they do you realise they’re some of the best people you’ve ever met.

we need to talk about the way matt removes that chair like it has personally offended his butt

i was so excited to have a filipina be a lead on a show because ???? when do you ever see that in american shows ???? i was so excited to see a character like me. i wanted to see this character grow. and i wanted this show to reach its full potential. idk i’m just sad over powerless being most likely cancelled because it’s so diverse and effortlessly funny. i’m just really sad it’s ending.

Fright Night (1985)

October 3, 2016 Movie of the Week

Tom Holland’s Fright Night is my favorite vampire movie. After all, what’s not to love about a film that’s equal parts gothic horror and ‘80s teen comedy? Holland’s tale of a young horror fan who suspects his new neighbor is a creature of the night appeals to two of my favorite subgenres, making for a unique cinematic hodgepodge of quotable characters, gruesome special effects, epic synth-based music, and (of course) more vampire tropes than you can shake a meticulously sharpened wooden stake at. It’s brilliant.

The thing that really makes Fright Night work is the way it shifts so effortlessly from funny to scary and back. But thankfully - and this is where so many horror comedies fall flat - the humor never overpowers the horror. The heroes of Fright Night are in real jeopardy and that fact is never cast aside for the sake of an easy joke. The vampire Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon) seems witty and sophisticated on the surface, sure, but that’s a ruse; the beast beneath the human facade is ancient and powerful, always one step ahead of our hero Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale), his sweetheart Amy (Amanda Bearse), their weird ass friend Evil Ed (Stephen Geoffreys), and washed up horror actor Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), who they’re all foolishly counting on to slay the fiend in question. The jokes are great but the movie truly excels because it works on both levels. Dandrige is capable of, well… just about anything you’ve ever seen in a vampire movie, which plays into Fright Night’s wonderfully meta sense of humor perfectly but also puts its characters in grave danger. And Sarandon plays the part so well! Jerry Dandrige has an eerie, wizened presence and confidence to him that screams VAMPIRE from the moment one first lays eyes on him. There’s just some… intangible thing, maybe something in the eyes… that makes him appear otherwordly even when he’s in human form. It’s a magnificent performance that I don’t think gets enough credit.

Honestly, there’s a lot about Fright Night that doesn’t get enough credit. The characters are all so lovable and iconic and Tom Holland’s script and direction just nail it on every possible level. It’s funny, it’s frightening, and it’s an absolute treat to watch that holds up to this day. I would go so far as to say it’s Holland’s best movie - an impressive claim considering this man brought us Child’s Play and the criminally underappreciated Psycho II. If you’ve never seen it, this Halloween season is the perfect time to welcome yourself… to Fright Night!

Your name: submit What is this?

“You know I just let you win.” Pietro says, not wanting to accept the fact that I kicked his ass at go-kart racing.

“Sure you did. Since you were so chivalrous as to let me win, you may have Barry. ” I say sarcastically, as I hand out my prized bear to Pietro with pride.

“Wow, you named the bear Barry?” He chuckles, taking the bear from me nonetheless.

“Well his actual name is Bartholomew.” I joke.

“Damn, I feel sorry for your future kids. Hopefully your future husband will come up with a name that won’t get your kid’s ass kicked on the playground.” He jokes back, while I push his shoulder.

“I guess I’ll just take Barry back then.” I go to grab the bear but Pietro holds him close.

“No, that won’t be necessary.” He says quickly and then grabs my hand as we walk out of the theme park and to his car.

After a short car ride, we’re back at my apartment.

“So, um did you want to come in? Darcy went out with Sam tonight.” I say somewhat nervously.

“Yeah sure. It’d be nice to not be cramped in a house with Clint, Wanda and Nat for once.” He shrugs getting out of the car.

“Make yourself at home, I think there are beers in the fridge.” I say to Pietro as I make my way to my room to take off my cute but uncomfortable shoes.

Pietro’s POV

I watch as Y/N leaves the room, her long legs, curly hair, dark skin and slim frame had me entranced. I know that this was supposed to be a bet, but I think I’m really starting to fall for her. She was effortlessly beautiful, funny, but had this slight intimidation about her. She’s still a bit closed off but I’m determined to find out why and then get her to open her up.

“Earth to Maximoff.” A hand waves in front of my face and I see Y/n right in front of me.

“What? Sorry, I missed that.” I snap out of my daze.

“I said I’m going to fix me a drink. Do you want one?” She says slowly, looking at me confused.

Darcy’s POV

I laughed as Sam took a bite of his fry, dipped in a chocolate milkshake for the first time at Fury’s Diner.

“We don’t ever eat our fries like this back home. That was actually pretty good.” His dark eyes grow wide.

I’ve been so happy with Sam so far and thankful for Y/N getting us together. I had no clue that a man so charming and sophisticated as him had a thing for me of all people.

“Babe, you’re telling me you’ve never tried this?” I laugh.

Out the corner of my eye, I see that guy Clint Barton with his girlfriend Natasha and that Wanda Maximoff girl sit in the booth behind me.

“Where’s Piet? He never misses out on burger night.” I hear Natasha ask.

“He’s with Y/N.” Clint mumbled.

“Well you don’t sound to enthused.” Wanda remarks.

“Only because he’s going to lose their bet.” Natasha says and that’s when I pull out my phone to start recording and give Sam a signal be quiet and he nods.

“Well he and I have a bet that he can’t get Y/N to fall in love with him in a month. I was so close to winning until he gave that corny speech in the library. I still can’t believe that she fell for it, by the way. So if he wins, I have to buy his drinks for the rest of the semester. If I win, he has to clean the apartment by himself for the semester.” Clint explains and I see Sam’s jaw clench.

He was always protective of Y/N. He thought of her as his little sister.

“Isn’t that a bit harsh? I mean why is Pietro doing this to the poor girl?” Wanda asks, sounding genuinely upset about what she heard.

“He can’t back down from a competition.” Clint shrugs.

Having heard enough, I stop the recording and send it to Y/n before grabbing Sam’s hand and walking out of the diner.

Natasha’s POV

“Wanda, relax the bet was my idea.” I tell my friend with a small smile and she softens her glare as she turns to me.

“What do you mean?” She cocks a brow.

“You were complaining about you wanting Pietro to find a nice girl, I was tired of hearing his sexcapades every other night and having some girl so doesn’t know boundaries eat our food and Clint was tired of waking up early from hearing girls slam the door leaving angrily in the morning so I came up with this bet. Pietro can’t turn away from competition and will do anything to win, so he’ll make an actual effort to get Y/n, who is perfect from him. So I got Clint to bet Pietro that he couldn’t get her to fall for him, knowing fully well that he’ll fall for her in the process.” Natasha says with a wicked smirk.

“That’s—“Wanda begins but I finish.

“Brilliant? I know.” I smirk.

“I was going to say manipulative. How are you going to pay for all of Pietro’s drinks anyway Clint?” Wanda turns to my blonde haired boyfriend.

“No clue Wanda. No clue.” Clint lets his head fall onto the table.

“Yeah, you should have made a different bet.” I shrug.

“Well I had to make it appealing didn’t I?”
