educational freedom

gotta love how the instant you criticize the school system, angry fb commenters descend from wherever they come from and let you know just what a moron you are for ever doubting the angelic perfection of public education which has lITERALLY BILLIONS OF SUCCESS STORIES.

we just won’t mention all the kids who got eating disorders from throwing up from nerves every day on the way to school, or the kids who actually were smart and decently capable, but because they couldn’t immediately grasp a subject at the right time in a one-size-fits-all system, were screwed over for opportunities they could have had, or the kids whose lives were wrecked by the atmosphere in school and they got into drugs or were abused or sexually harassed by teachers or other kids, or the kids whose personality was ruined by peer pressure and even as adults they’re incapable of thinking for themselves on most subjects, or the kids who killed themselves because they were bullied relentlessly and had literally no escape because you’re not allowed to change schools without changing addresses and there are race quotas and unless your parents are behind you you can’t reasonably do it yourself as a minor, or the kids who maybe weren’t the smartest people but were still capable of functioning in society in some way who wound up hating themselves for not being the “”“standard”“” everyone else is supposed to be, or the kids who went on to college because it was drilled into their brains that they needed it and now can’t have families because of massive student debt when they could have gone to community college and gotten certification for a job that paid equally well to their job they got with a degree, but with less time and money spent.

BUT AT LEAST THEY WERE SOCIALIZED AND THEY KNOW THAT REAL LIFE SUCKS, RIGHT?? SURVIVORSHIP BIAS, BABY.

i’m sorry but it’s not the government’s job to force anyone into character development. and imo, if something requires breaking you to complete, the result better be pretty darned great, or it’s not worth it.

everyone: *hates student loans and complains about how the crushing levels of debt kill any chance at a future they might have*

also everyone: *continues going to college despite less and less evidence that a degree in anything really helps you in the job market, therefore removing any incentive for any “”“higher”“” educational institution to lower its price*

What the….

What is this?

“Urusin dulu negerimu, Pik. Baru urusin negeri orang.”

Well, jangan risaukan tulisan saya ini.

The only freedom that is of enduring importance is the freedom of intelligence, that is to say, freedom of observation and of judgment, exercised in behalf of purposes that are intrinsically worthwhile. The commonest mistake made about freedom is, I think, to identify it with freedom of movement, or, with the external or physical side of activity.
