education careers

It is interesting how people feel the need to rush through life as a way to prove maturity. People will rush into relationships, love, sex, marriage, education, careers, etc just to show that they are grown. As a person who is grown, I find myself understanding that there is maturity in saying “I’m not ready.” There is also maturity in saying “I want to wait.” And there is maturity in saying “let me take some time to prepare.” Being in tune with where I am and making decisions based on my own needs and not the pressure to prove that I’m grown, that I have it all figured out, that in perfect is important to me.
I move at my own pace. I move at the speed that works for me. I move in a way that doesn’t cause me to be impatient with God or myself. I have learned to be still, or wait, or take as much time as I need.

Fact is, we are no longer impressed by the miracle of modern agriculture, affordable electricity, air conditioning, smooth roads, suspension bridges, winged-flight, or any number of other things that used to unite us with a shared sense of wonder. This is why we blame the plumber for charging us “too much.” We resent him, precisely because we need him. The very jobs we told our kids to avoid, are the same jobs we bitch about paying for. From healthcare to roadside assistance, construction to computer repair — we begrudge the skills we don’t possess, and disparage the people who have them.

The 10 best and worst college majors for women trying to avoid the gender pay gap

  • American women earn less on average than men — about $400,000 less over the course of a career
  • But figuring why and how that gap arises is the subject of great debate: Do women earn less than men because of discrimination on the job? Or are women socially conditioned to study fields that feed into lower paying careers? Is it both, or other factors?
  • At least the result is clear, said Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist at jobs site Glassdoor: On average, “men and women end up in different jobs,” he said, “And college major is really the biggest factor there.” Read more (4/19/17)

I finished another re-listen of the whole series last week, and I’ve been legitimately thinking about this a lot since then.

Taako is smart as fuck. Like even from the beginning, his intel stats were pretty fucking decent. When Justin made the decision to start playing Taako as, in his words, a dullard, he made sure to note that even though Taako knows plenty of about magic and cooking (ie book smart), he lacks certain levels of common sense.

At the time, this character choice was a pretty straight forward play. And, of course, there’s no way in fuck Justin would have known what ended up revealed 2-3 years later, regarding everyone’s lost memories.

But that’s the thing about both Justin and Griffin, and to a different extent Travis and Clint.

Griffin took this story and wove it beautifully. And when he presented Lup to Justin, Justin fucking embraced his knew fictional sister whole heartedly.

Looking back at the beginning of TAZ with the context of Lup being removed from Taako’s story, from his memory, it makes SO MUCH SENSE that he had trouble making sense of the world. Until the IPRE, it was just the two of them for their ENTIRE LIVES. She was central to his survival, to his education, to his career, to who he was and how he saw himself fitting in to the world.

Without Lup, he was homeless. Because his sister, his twin, is his home.

In the context of Taako forgetting Lup? Taako also forgets a piece of himself. Taako forgets a piece of why he learned magic, how and why he learned to cook, he lost the most important tether to how he stayed grounded, even if he never truly put down many roots otherwise.

TLDR:: Taako in the finale is a fucking genius because he can finally remember everything he’s always known. Taako’s world didn’t make much sense at all when he couldn’t remember his heart, Lup.

Cosmic Funnies in Japan?!

Hey guys, I have some news for you. 😉
I just had an interview with Interac, an international teaching company who has been trying to contact me over the span of two weeks. As it fated, I decided to answer the phone call not knowing it was them and assuming it was just telemarketing.

Boy was I in for a surprise! I had a 5 minute discussion with them yesterday and arrange a phone interview for today. They said they’d email me if i’d passed to move on to the second interview and around 15 minutes later, I received a congrats email that I’ve passed and to move on to the second interview along with going to the orientation this Saturday.
If I decide to go teach english in japan, I would leave America by next spring to begin my 1 year contract. (Hopefully I can extend it if all goes well.)

What does it mean for cosmic funnies should I accept this job? I’ll still continue to post new comics possibly late at night after working in the school and weekends like I always do with my current job.
You guys have no idea how nervous and excited I am, but this is something I always wanted to do. Ever since I was a child, I always wanted to go to japan and work/live there.

If all goes well, I can live there permanently and work there, publishing cosmic funnies books there and creating an animated series in japan.
Let us hope. 😃 Until then, i’ll give you guys updates on what happens with the second interview and orientation.
Also, i’m trying to finish tonight’s comic while hyperventilating!!

Have a great night!

The Midheaven - A Staircase to the Highest Star

When you want something,  think about it, envision how it would feel to have what you want,  then release that desire to the universe,   this will set your intention and bring your desire to you.“    - Jasmeine Moonsong

The Midheaven or tenth house cusp is the highest point in the sky and in the natal chart. A trusty astrologer I once confided in referred to the Midheaven sign as ‘where you want to be’. The Midheaven refers to one’s desires career wise, the approach to one’s profession, dreams, and the public image. In many ways it is like a hologram of the face we want to become, and can become, like a swirling energy we emit to the world. Because the tenth house is an angular house, it pertains to a major focus of the chart. The MC is like a blueprint of the future we dream of, and have the capability of achieving if only we reign in on our Capricorn (ruler of the tenth house) spirit. We are elevated through the Midheaven and develop our single consciousness whilst retaining our understanding of the oneness we all share. It’s the kind of impact we want to have on the world, but through an authentic self expression. .

Midheaven in Aries: I want to be where the action, light, and noise is

Any advice for someone that loves all things marine life but can't pursue marine biology because they suck at math and science? Asking for a friend.

Hey there! I do have some suggestions for potential career paths that relate to marine biology. I hope this short list is helpful.

1) Ecotourism is a huge industry that is quickly growing, particularly for coastal environments. Right now, there is a high demand for guided nature cruises and kayak trips as well as shelling and providing beach ecosystem education.

2) Environmental journalism/photography/videography are options for someone who enjoys writing or taking photos. Either as a freelance writer/photographer or as part of a publication, you’ll likely travel to see marine life as well as interview people who are in the marine biology field. You’ll also likely encounter fisherman and others who make their livelihood from the ocean, so you’ll get to meet some really interesting people. With videography, you could help film footage for documentaries.

3) Marine life education can be provided as an aquarium educator or nature preserve employee. You can guide people on tours, provide information on the different organisms, and observe the animals’ daily behavior so that you can alert the aquarist at the aquarium about behavioral changes.

4) SCUBA/snorkeling guides get to interact with wildlife daily. You’ll also likely be exposed to maneuvering a vessel. This is under the umbrella of ecotourism, but you’ll be under the water instead of on it. The captain and first mate lead tours almost every day of the week. You’ll learn where specific wildlife like to congregate and get to provide a bit of education to the clientele.

5) Boat captains/first mates/maritime police are connected to many of these other careers and would be a good option for someone who likes boating. You’ll learn navigation and maritime laws as well as gain valuable insight from seasoned skippers. You could captain tours or research expeditions, or you could enforce maritime law.

6) Park rangers/fish and game wardens are also rewarding positions that can give you exposure to marine life. Whether employed by a private company or local/state/federal government, you’ll get to protect wildlife and provide education to park visitors.

Petition to stop training girls to think maths is hard

omg I’m so angry about this I think I’m gonna make it my life’s mission.

Stop teaching girls that drama lessons are fun and exciting but that maths is hard or boring or scary.

Stop teaching girls that you have to be super clever to do maths.

Stop enforcing the mindset that makes girls think that people who enjoy maths are ‘geeks’; stop enforcing the mindset that people who enjoy maths are weird or different or should be excluded or bullied.

Stop enforcing the mindset that makes girls embarrassed to admit they enjoy maths.

Stop selling t-shirts with crappy anti-maths slogans; stop making jokes on tv and in films that normalize girls being bad at maths.

Stop making it so ok to not like maths that girls think it’s ok not to even try to understand it.

Stop permitting the mindset that you’re never gonna use maths in real life, because it’s inexcusable.

Teach girls that maths is easy.

Show girls what maths is used for.

Show girls all the incredible things that people, and that women, have used maths for.

Show girls how to use maths to make your life easier, cheaper, better, to get a better job and a better career, to get a higher salary.

Show girls how maths is useful no matter what your career is, whether you work in science or marketing or product design or dressmaking or in a shop.

Teach girls that maths is logic, that it’s instructions. That it never changes, that it’s just simple rules that you follow.

Teach girls that maths is easy, because training them that its hard from infancy will create a block in their mind and stop them from ever being able to enjoy it.

Maths is fucking awesome, and everybody should know that.

Training girls that it’s hard is criminal.

grace-of-hearts replied to your photo:YOI Future!Verse ABO AU - 4 Koma SMACK! The kids…

Yurio’s face in the first panel is great. He wants to know what to do to fix this but he’s never handled friendships well initially himself. And he’s notably younger than Yuuri and Victor, so he probably feels a little out of his depth here.

whoo I caught a reply! :’D

NOP Yurio’s never handled friendships well minus Beka, but tbh they’re ALL out of their depth. People where scared of Yurio, Victor didn’t particularly care to befriend others (who mostly approached him for superficial reasons anyway), and Yuuri was ignored or bullied as a kid (outside of Yuuko).

Should also note that the three of them have VERY different attitudes approaching parenthood too. For Yuuri, the idea of a family (if not necessarily specifically kids) and being surrounded by loved ones is comforting, and not something he’d ever thought he could have until recently. In the haze of uncertainty that is life and a career after his retirement, he sees it as one of the only clear and tangible goals that he can accomplish, and share with his mates too.

Yurio is forever bitter about absence the of his parents from his own childhood, and has always specifically dreamed of having kids so that he could give them what he didn’t have. He’d never trade his grandfather for parents, but it’s also an experience he’s always craved, even if he’s on the parenting side. In addition, while the others are in no rush, Yurio wants kids earlier rather than later because he desperately wants his grandfather to be a part of that family vision, and he knows realistically that he doesn’t have that much time left. If he were alone, heck if it were just him and his mate Yurio’d think it irresponsible and wait until he has the confidence and experience to support them all, but given the much more extensive support system of their poly relationship and Victor and Yuuri’s seniority, he feels it could really work even with him being so young.

Victor probably hasn’t thought nearly as deeply about parenthood as he should have, but he likes surprising even himself and is used to making spontaneous decisions. While having kids is definitely something even he wouldn’t do on just a whim, when the other two bring it up, he decides more or less on the spot that it’s a wonderful idea and something he really wants too. Any additional form of love he can have with Yuuri, he’ll embrace with his whole life.
