TODAY IN THEATRE HISTORY: In 1978, Carol Hall’s The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, starring Carlin Glynn, opens on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre. The musical is based on the true story of Edna Milton Chadwell, whose beloved Texas whorehouse came under fire from a television reporter and local politicians. Directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune, the production garnered seven Tony nominations and won two: for Glynn and co-star Henderson Forsythe. In 1982, the musical was turned into a film starring Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds.
