People always talk about experiences that changed their lives forever. This may sound cliche, but that’s what Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball was for me. Being surrounded by such unbridled expression and acceptance was something I had never experienced before that point. And I loved every minute of it.
I left feeling empowered, loved and inspired. I wanted every day to be the Monster Ball. My goals since then have been to always be my truest self, and to help foster an atmosphere of acceptance and expression. Those aren’t easy tasks, especially living in the south. But if I’m able to show just one person–one kid who is different that they are loved , they are celebrated, and they’re not alone, then it’s all worth it.
So basically, thank you Gaga. You’ll never know what an impact you’ve made on my life, but I’m eternally grateful for it.
“And the best thing about The Monster Ball is that I created it so my fans have a place to go. A place where all the freaks are outside and I lock the fucking doors. It don’t matter who you are, where you come from, or how much money you got in your pocket because tonight and every other after night you could be who ever is that you want to be.” -Lady Gaga: The Monster Ball Tour
