Coffee is mentioned at least 92 times in the first Girl With The Dragon Tattoo book, and doesn’t let up in the second installment. We’re looking at at 250+ mentions of coffee throughout this series. I know each story takes place over a few years, but it’s like anytime a character wants to [get something done/think/be sad/be happy/host/write/talk/have sex/etc.], coffee must be had. Is this a Swedish cultural thing, or was Larsson just a coffee fanatic? Either way, it’s a relatable amount of coffee.
Edit: “In Sweden…we drink coffee at least 3 times a day. And you are always offered coffee and pastries when you visit someone, it’s very rude not to except. This is our traditions.” - Birgitta Loeser, from the article linked.
