The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won’t let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they’re not punishing you; they’re freeing your soul. So, if you’re frightened of dying and… and you’re holding on, you’ll see devils tearing your life away. But if you’ve made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.

Strictly for the “Jacob’s Ladder” fans.

If you’re frightened of dying, and you’re holding on, you’ll see devils tearing your life away. If you’ve made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.

UNKLE - Rabbit In Your Headlights [1998 : Psyence Fiction]

Was watching Jacob’s Ladder last night and during a beautiful scene between Tim Robbins and Danny Aiello, was reminded of DJ Shadow’s haunting use of a perfect vocal sample from that scene in the UNKLE track “Rabbit In Your Headlights”.

Can there be a better blending of stuff I adore with DJ Shadow + Thom Yorke + Jacob’s Ladder*?  Furthermore, it was put into stunning visuals by the masterful Jonathan Glazer (director of numerous great videos and the stunning feature film Birth) to create one of my favourite music videos (even with the vocal sample being cut from the video).

* Technically, maybe (via the promotional copy of J Dilla’s album The Shining, which heavily features dialogue from Kubrick’s film interlaced with Dilla’s sick beats and perhaps some other examples I’m forgetting).
