Another commission! This time of John Carter. The request was to make him smoldering, true to the book, and looking over his shoulder. It was meant as a gift to a true John Carter fan and was not to be based on the movie depiction of the character. I had a lot of fun imagining my own version of the character while retaining some elements of the throwback illustrations of yesteryear (looking at you, Frazetta). If you’ve seen any of the old illustrations, you know Mr. Carter is shown wearing next to nothing, so I wanted to include a little scantily clad man flesh mixed with grit and wear and tear. Let me know what you think!
This is it, folks: we have a winner. My favorite Gold Key cover of all time. It has Tarzan incongruously packing a trench warfare machine gun, and look at that color-haired emo lion lending him a hand.
Tarzan the Untamed was a novel where Tarzan believes Germans killed Jane so he spends the book getting revenge. It’s the prototype for every 90s action movie.
