I’m so here for an AU where Ed and Al both travel to Xing after Brotherhood and then Winry comes up to do repairs and is like “Wow Ed your boyfriend’s bodyguard is hot does she need a mechanic” like please give me Edling, Winfan, and Almei all happening at the same time and all the kids just end up living in Xing together
do you ever do character analysis's? if you do, can you please do a character analysis of ed?? idk only if you want to like if it sounds fun thank
I’ve always wanted to do some, but I’m shy about doing them unprompted, which makes me glad you came along, anon! I’d love to do one for you, although I will warn you it may end up long.
(edit: end wordcount is 2,653 words. Be prepared, I certainly went in-depth with this one.)
Ed is, hands down, my favorite male character ever, and my favorite character of all time. I’m quite sure I gathered most of my personal ideology from him at 13, and absorbed half of his personality in the process. So, I really hope I can do him justice.
In all ways, shapes, and forms, Edward Elric is certainly the most multi-faceted, interesting, and revolutionary male lead I’ve ever seen in my life. I make it a personal goal to watch a lot of different kinds of media and critically consume it all, but I’ve yet to stumble over a character I love as ardently as Edward Elric.
He is a disabled, educated, and feminist male lead who not only breaks the boundaries between gender expectations, but also sets great examples for loveable male characters in the future. I have no doubt in my mind when I say this: Edward Elric and FMA:B as a whole turned an entire era of tropes, ideals, and character alignments on their head.
Edward Elric is an openminded young man who worked through his guilt, nihilism, and self hatred to become a kind, compassionate person who saved the world just because he wanted to protect and cherish what he loved.
More under the cut, so I don’t flood dashes with more of my rambly meta.
so the story behind these two is that they are in a way related to the rockbells but have some xerxsian ancestry. i like to think pinako had another son who married someone with xerxsian ancestry and who also used to be in the military and was pretty close to roy.
because of their bad childhood they ended up doing criminal-like things, and so one day roy notices this, so he makes them ed and al’s bodyguards instead of arresting them in hopes that this will make them more disciplined and better people
Pairing: Roy Mustang/Edward Elric; also feat. Ling Yao, Riza Hawkeye, Jean Havoc, and Barry the Chopper
Rating: PG-13 (Ed swears a lot; Roy is… Roy)
Summary: Edward Elric wasn’t expecting an especially pleasant job after his last assignment as a bodyguard went pear-shaped, but—
A pop star?
And as if the degrading position weren’t enough, world-famous pop
idol Roy Mustang seems to have a complete and utter disregard for his
safety as long as he gets to have fun.
(Or, the AU in which Ed is a cranky bodyguard, Roy is a loud exhibitionist power bottom, and Ed will never get the glitter out of his suits.)
Notes: Happy Birthday to @obersten! Have chapter one of a fic inspired by your Manboy AUlike you didn’t know it was coming. Like Roy will be. Loudly. Thank you for being awesome!
Massive shout out to @grandadmiral for being the Roy to my Ed and being my go-to for his dialogue, as well as @verbosewordsmith for her infinite bandom nerdass knowledge <3 (And I am frantically praying that Backstreet Boys are still relevant enough to be referenced.)
Ed stared down at the file in his hand, doing
his best to keep his expression neutral as he read through the
assignment. He wasn’t very good at it.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” he gritted out. Ling just smiled pleasantly.
“I would never kid with you, Edward. I think this will be a good fit—“
Ed closed the folder with a snap. “A fuckin’ pop star?”
“Not just any pop star,” Ling chided gently, though there was a tiny bit of a smirk on his lips. “Manboy Mustang.”
Pairing: again, Roy/Ed if you squint really really hard
Notes: post-Brotherhood UA, where Roy is the Fuhrer and Ed is his sort-of bodyguard. One-shot.
Summary: Had he been any more conscious than he was, he thinks he’d have contemplated death. He’d have laughed himself silly, thinking something like, “Of course, the one and only Flame Alchemist would die by drowning. Of course.” But darkness and colors fuzzy under his eyelids keep him from actually thinking coherent thoughts, so he doesn’t.
He remembers cold. Seeping cold,
wrapping all over him, wet and suffocating and dark; he remembers a familiar voice yelling for him, remembers panic
and fear clouding his senses, until it was over.
Had he been any more conscious
than he was, he thinks he’d have contemplated death. He’d have laughed himself
silly, thinking something like, “Of
course, the one and only Flame Alchemist would die by drowning. Of course.”
But darkness and colors fuzzy under his eyelids keep him from actually thinking coherent thoughts, so he doesn’t.
Everything is quiet, and dark,
and nothing. If he were any more coherent, awake, alive, perhaps he’d have felt panic at the state he was in. Perhaps
he’d have wondered, worried about his life, and the life of his subordinates
who he’d brought along because he didn’t have a choice- being the Fuhrer meant no privacy, no sense of complete
safety because there would always (always)
be someone against him who’d want him dead.
He breathes, and he tastes the
scent of hospital in his mouth.
