The Long Island born rapper and one half of golden age hip hop duo Eric B. & Rakim, started at the age of 18 after Eric B. brought him to Marley Marl’s house to record “Eric B. Is President.”

After @defjamblr​ founder Russell Simmons​ heard the single, the duo were signed to Island Records and began recording the album, Paid in Full.
Deemed one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time, solidified the rap duos position in the music world. As of December 1997, it has sold over a million copies.

In 1999, Rakim released his debut album The Master, which received very good reviews as well, before signing to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment​ecord label in 2000.

Many have credited Rakim as an influence including GZA, Ghostface Killah, and Raekwon (from the Wu-Tang Clan), Tupac, Nas, Kool G. Rap, Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, and 50 Cent.
