FRIDAYS HOLIDAY HACKS // FIVE HOLIDAY COCKTAIL GARNISHES TO UP YOUR BARTENDING GAME

If you’re going to host a holiday party, do it up right. That means decking your halls and your cocktails. Prepare these garnishes ahead of time to make your guests’ drinks fancy when serving. They’re sure to add some holiday spirit to their spirits.

MINI CANDY CANES OR STARLIGHT MINTS
Nothing signals the holidays like a traditional candy cane, and the mini versions even come with their own hook, perfect for hanging on the rim of a glass. Starlight mints also work and can be crushed and used to rim a cocktail glass.

Try it with: Chocolate Martini

2 oz. chocolate liqueur 1 oz. vanilla vodka
1.5 oz. Half & Half

Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into martini glass.

ROSEMARY SPRIG If you don’t have a rosemary bush in your yard, chances are one of your neighbors does. Which makes this tip festive and budget-friendly. Just snip a few sprigs off the bush and place them in your favorite holiday cocktail.

Try it with: Champagne Margarita

2 oz. fresh lime juice 1 oz. simple syrup 1.25 oz. gold tequila 0.5 oz. triple sec 2 oz. Brut Champagne (topper)

Combine Ingredients 1-4 in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with Champagne.

SUGARED CRANBERRIES
These festive fruits are everywhere during the holidays, so why not use them to brighten your holiday cocktail? Freeze them, then float a few in your drink, spear them with a sprig of rosemary, or dust them in sugar for a wintery effect. If cranberries aren’t your thing, fresh raspberries work just as beautifully.

Try it with: Cosmopolitan

2 oz. vodka
1 oz. Cointreau
0.5 oz. fresh lime juice 2 oz. cranberry juice

Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into martini glass.

SUGAR AND SPICE RIMS
Margaritas get a salt rim all year round, but the holidays are the perfect time of year to get creative with cocktail and beer rims. Mix warm winter spices like ground nut- meg, cinnamon, cocoa, or even gingerbread cookies with granulated sugar and dip the rim of the glass in the mixture. Every sip will be a treat.

Try it with: Winter Beers (Shiner Cheer, Sierra Nevada Celebration, Shipyard GingerBreadHead, Great Lakes Christmas Ale)

SHAVED CHOCOLATE
If your drink is sweet, elevate it with shaved chocolate. Just take a fruit peeler to your favorite chocolate bar and voilà! – you’ve got a fancy garnish sure to impress.

Try it with: Eggnog or Hot Chocolate
