ELI5: Why is the majority of girls handwriting nicer looking than boys?
I am not sure I can tell you why, but it is definitely a relatively new thing. I am doing some work with a historian and she has a giant collection of documents from about 1600 up to the late 1800s all written by men (ship logs, manifests, trade and commerce and tax documents, etc.) and virtually all of it is more legible than anything I see from first year university students.
That suggests some substantial change in how we teach penmanship which has been bad for men/boys but either beneficial or no change for girls and women.
The theory that we teach handwriting when girls are developing fine motor skills while boys are still doing gross motor skills makes the most sense. Most guys I see can write legible math, numerals (1, 2, 3 etc.) and then math symbols are taught at a different time than cursive writing and reinforced differently, so it may be that time context and reinforcement are big factors and simply moving when joined up writing is taught would fix it. Though many of my students have told me they didn’t learn cursive in school or their younger siblings aren’t learning it.
Pumpkin dip: -1 cup pumpkin puree -1 cup canned white/navy beans or chickpeas (drained) -¼ cup water -½ teaspoon paprika -½ teaspoon onion powder -½ teaspoon garlic powder -1 teaspoon salt -1 teaspoon chili powder -¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 450°F.
Cut the yams into 1/4inch slices. You can cut them in half as well if you want shorter fries. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, paprika, salt, garlic powder, pepper, and cumin.
Toss the yams in the bowl until they’re fully coated with the oil and spices. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the yam slices so they’re not touching one another. You may need two baking sheets for this.
Bake them in the oven for 25-35 minutes, depending on the thickness of the slices. Turn them over every 10 minutes to ensure even cooking (The picture has the fries half-way through baking).
While the fries are roasting, make the pumpkin dip. In a blender or food processor, combine all the ingredients and blend until smooth.
Pour the dip into a bowl and serve with the fries while they’re still hot. Dust the dip with more chili powder and sprinkle coarse salt over the fries. Not pictured: the other batch of yam fries I forgot about.
The dip is creamy and tasty, and offsets the subtle sweetness of the yam fries.
Jared tweeted about his wife buying him food at 10:14 PM in Vancouver time. There are a couple of things that bother me about this occurance.
Let’s assume G was in Seattle. Driving to Vancouver would take at least 2,5 hours, possibly longer due to queues at the border. Isn’t she supposed to be giving birth in a few weeks time? Why would she put herself through this, especially if she took the boys with her?
Ok, so what if she was in Austin? How would she travel to Vancouver, seeing as how flying is highly discouraged at her stage of pregnancy? Would she risk that? I really don’t think anyone would.
Let’s leave the pregnancy completely aside now and for thesake of an argument assume they’re using a surrogate. If she’s in Vancouver, wouldn’t it be Jared’s style to push pictures of her all over his social media accounts? It’s been a while since we last saw a proper picture of them together. Surely he knows by now that us tinhats will buy none of this without tangible proof (not that I think he tweeted this for us).
The only way I can imagine this happening is by G calling the restraurant and arranging a delivery. I highly doubt it happened, although it’s possible. Perhaps Jared just wanted to kill three birds with one stone - a bit of show promotion, a bit of bearding and some promotion for the restaurant?
Or maybe someone else arranged the meal for him? What, I didn’t say anything! ;)
Was not feeling the best this morning, so I was not sure how this run would go. I was hoping that some fresh air would help me feel better, and I was right!
The weather was unbelievable for February. 60 and sunny and beautiful!! That definitely helped this run go well. My lunches are supposed to be around 1 hour, so I had to shorten my warm up and cool down to make sure I wasn’t taking advantage too much of the flexibility.
Once I got into the tempo miles though, I felt surprisingly good! It was tough, but I was maintaining pretty well. Starting to get a better feel of how this pace actually feels. I kinda shit out in the last tempo mile though. My legs were so pooped and I was getting really hot, but I just told myself to keep going and that slowing down was better than stopping. I was very happy to finish this run though! But I’m very happy with how it went :)
And tonight I’m heading to Chicago to be near the airport because tomorrow I’m going to CANCUN with some girlfriends for work until Tuesday!!!!! I’m SO excited, it’s going to be a fun trip!! I’m not sure how running will work there, but I’m not overly concerned. A few days of easy running won’t hurt me too much :)
I love Bull, nothing says lovely like a buff man with a kilo-watt smile and gentle nature. I tried to keep as true as possible like his blonde curls and a mix of 1940′s hair styles. Plus strong lady <3
The best part of tonight’s episode was Raven (and a little bit of Murphy). All the things I usually love to see in the rest of the main characters wasn’t there. Clarke had her usual “everyone hates me because I’m the leader who has to make the hard choices” thing going on. Bellamy was only there for like one minute, and he was a prisoner that whole time. And we had to watch him think his sister is dead (not cool–that ten second crying scene destroyed my heart). ECHO IS STILL FREAKING ALIVE. Echo “killed” Octavia. Octavia survived but barely, and Roan is still on his “I over-compensate in my kingly rule because I’m practically useless” (I hate echo and roan).
