You’ll need coffee shops and sunsets and road trips. Airplanes and passports and new songs and old songs, but people more than anything else. You will need other people and you will need to be that other person to someone else; a living, breathing, screaming invitation to believe better things.

I realized why we love coffee shop AUs

Yes, there is a world of AUs out there.  Many multiverses of Greek gods and superheros and space adventurers and fantasy worlds.

But the coffee shops are here.  They are here in our own little mundane worlds.  We know them.  They are a universal constant with the same basic layout no matter where you go.  The same thing goes for bars.  There’s a reason why table top roleplaying usually has you start in a bar.  You know what it looks like and what to expect from the patrons.

Coffee shops, From Starbucks to the Coffee Bean all look… pretty much identical.  We’ve all been in one at one time or another.  We know them and we’ve all seen that one cute Barista that we’d love to ask out on a date.

Coffee shop AUs take place in our world where most of us live.  We fantasize about meeting our soulmate by spilling coffee on them. We fantasize about that cute Barista.  The whirlwind coffee shop romance in attainable.  So is the High School Au.  The College Au.  The Bartender Au.

We love these because they are our lives.  We love them because we see ourselves in them.

Fantasy is for escape.

Coffee Shops are for dreams.
