A quick how-to: Modifying spells

Find a lovely spell online that is almost perfect; however, there is one or two things that ruin it for you?

Well fret not! You can easily adapt it for personal use.

We’ll start out by giving an example

You will need a bitter root or piece of food, something that has a really bitter taste.

“Those that spread lies,

those that spread filth.

Let it be known that all

shall choke and gag.”

Feed the root a bit of blood (or alternative blood orange juice)

carry it around when needed.

They will gag if they lie or spread rumors about/to you.

So, you’ve found this spell online. You rather like it; however, it contains one or more of the following

  • items you do not have
  • phrases you don’t like
  • the use of something (deity, words, etc) that you don’t feel comfortable with
  • moral codes that you don’t agree with

You can easily change the spell to fit your needs. Lets say you don’t have a bitter piece of food or plant to use.

What alternative things could you use?

Think of the purpose the item is meant to fulfill. Its meant to stop/prevent gossip. In this case, its meant to make the gossiper gag on the bitterness of the plant.

So what else could you use?

  • pins and needles
  • salt
  • lemon juice
  • pepper spray (or chili powder)
  • something meant to hinder their ability to speak

You use it in place of the item, so the spell will change. As such, it might be better to change the wording a little bit as well

You will need a bitter root or piece of food, something that has a really bitter taste. (We replace this with a bag of chili powder

"Those that spread lies,

those that spread filth.

Let it be known that all

shall choke and gag.”

Place your power into the bag by either giving up something apart of you (like blood or hair) or by giving it your energy and empowerment

carry it around when needed.

They will gag if they lie or spread rumors about/to you.

ok, lets say we’ve decided to not use a food thing, but instead a small box of pins and needles

"Those that spread lies,

those that spread filth.

Let it be known that all

shall choke and bleed.”

you edit the chant to fit more with the item you’re now using.

now, lets look at this Glamour spell

Purpose: To transform the energy around you

Items needed

  • A mirror
  • red lipstick
  • olive/vegetable/grape seed oil

Steps

  1. Take the oil and draw a sigil with the desired effect (beauty, confidence, strength, etc) on the back of the mirror. Draw the sigil upon the back of your neck as well.
  2. Put the red lipstick on, then face the mirror
  3. "Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” Stare at yourself and picture the energy around yourself. See it morph and change, twist and transform. Then go on to describe your most beautiful features (hair, eyes, skin, lips, cheeks, etc)
  4. Once you feel ready, you will kiss the mirror and leave a mark of red lipstick upon the glass. “I am the fairest of them all”
  5. Every morning, you will look at yourself within the mirror. Stare and meditate into it for a few short minutes when you need to recharge the glamour spell on yourself.
  6. When you are completely finished with the spell, you only need to wipe the mirror clean.

What we need to do: We want to replace “Beauty” with “invisibility” for the purpose of the spell. As such, we’ll need to change a few things in the spell.

  • instead of lipstick, we’ll be using a clear liquid or oil (its less noticeable)
  • we’ll be needing paint as well

the spell, with edits, will now look like this

Purpose: To transform the energy around you

Items needed

  • A mirror
  • olive/vegetable/grape seed oil
  • paint

Steps

  1. Take the oil and draw a sigil with the desired effect (invisible) on the back of the mirror. Draw the sigil upon the back of your neck as well.
  2. face the mirror
  3. “Mirror mirror on the wall, I am unnoticed by them all” Stare at yourself and picture the energy around yourself. See it morph and change, twist and transform. Picture your reflection fading away
  4. grab the paint and cover the mirror with it, so that you can no longer see yourself.
  5. Every morning, you will look at yourself within the mirror. Stare and meditate into it for a few short minutes when you need to recharge the glamour spell on yourself.
  6. When you are completely finished with the spell, you only need to clean the sigil off the mirror

Spells, charms, and basic rituals can be easily changed to fit your needs.

An important thing to remember is that items can be replaceable for most practical needs and uses.

Black Obsidian is required in one spell for the use of protection; however, there are a ton of different items that symbolize protection.

  • shields
  • knives
  • turtle shell
  • chili powder
  • etc

Items can easily be replaced with what you have. Typically, the items are used in the spell due to the associations that they hold. Have a different association for something? You can easily change the spell to fit your needs.

And with chants if you don’t feel comfortable with a phrase used in a spell, you can easily omit the phrase, change the chant, or write your own.

It can rhyme or it does not. It can be poetic or it can be straight to the point. Either way, the main point is that it helps you focus your intent for the spell.

Like a spell, but it uses deities/entities that you don’t feel comfortable calling? You can easily omit them.

hope this helps!

Some Suggestions on Faerie Offerings, adapted from Emily Carding

Just some of the offerings you can make to the fae include

  • a bowl of cream or milk
  • alcohol
  • cakes and bread
  • incense
  • music and song
  • dance
  • candles
  • creative acts, such as drawings, sculptures, poems, writings, etc.
  • wildflowers
  • shiny things
  • planting flowers/plants
  • acts of devotion to nature
  • bodily fluids and/or a lock of hair

Carding advises against offering crystals due to modern mining methods, however I obtain my crystals directly from someone who mines them herself a few times a year, so I love offering small crystal points and keeping them around the house.

And as always, if you make offerings be sure that it is regularly done or else it can be considered offensive to the fae. It can also cause some mischief in your home. Similiarly, avoid making offerings/altar for the fae near electronics, as their energy tends to cause issues in the frequency of electrical items.

I want to contact the fae. But I don't live near a forest. I do have a lot of greenery near my house. I live in India. Are fair folk spread everywhere? I am sorry if this has been already asked I tried searching for your asks but your blog is huge. I love your self help posts :) I really wish to just meet the fair folk. I don't even want anything in return. Just be their friend.

No apologies needed :) The fae live in all areas and in all types of terrain. There are fae of forests, of desert, water, air, fire, you name it. You could start by just making a simple offering, something you think would be appreciated in your area. Maybe water, or cream is always good. Butter or bread is also great. Just make sure it’s on a consistent basis, whether daily or weekly. Don’t say thank you just something like, “I make this offering out of friendship and trust.”

I would also say to check out sacred-texts website because you can read about different fairy tales from all over the world :)

I also just organized my blog and added a page for 101 and basic questions

Hi I'm going to be taking my senior portraits soon and I want to do a natural look. I want to put makeup on but I don't want it to be too much. I would like to look like myself just a bit enhanced lol. What do you recommend?

Products for a flawless natural look:
• Foundation
something that’ll look natural and flawless is the makeup forever hd foundation! it has no spf so you won’t get a white cast on your face
• Concealer
because the foundation gives medium coverage, you want to use a concealer to hide any discoloration/blemishes
i recommend: nars radiant creamy concealer, maybelline fit me
• Translucent powder
translucent powder is perfect for a natural look because it’ll set your makeup and mattify your face without adding extra pigment so your skin will look much more bare. my all time favorite is the laura mercier translucent powder
• Bronzer
photos can wash you out, so to add some warmth and color to your skin. matte bronzers and bronzers with super subtle shimmers will give a natural glow to your skin.
i recommend: a darker shade in the MAC mineralize skin finish natural powders, NYX matte bronzers
• Blush
for blush, i suggest a warm shade with a sheen or subtle shimmer so you don’t need a highlighter as well. the sheen/shimmer will give dimension to your cheeks and also some color!
i recommend: benefit coralista, mac warm soul, milani luminoso
• Brows
defined brows are sososo important because photos can wash you out!
i recommend: mufe aqua brow, elf eyebrow kit, anastasia dipbrow pomade
• Eyeshadow
neutral matte eyeshadows is what i suggest. applying a medium brown color thats just 2 or 3 shades darker than your skin ton all over the lid blended into the crease, or just running that through your crease would give you definition to the eyes without it looking like you actually have eyeshadow on.
I personally love MAC cork and wedge. Using your bronzer works too!
• Eyeliner
this brings more attention to the eyes. lightly smudging your pencil eyeliner along the upper lashline can be the easiest trick to the one of the biggest differences. pencil eyeliner is quick, easy and natural looking compared to liquid eyeliners. tip- applying a nude eyeliner to your waterline can help open up your eyes and make them look bigger and brighter!
I recommend: nars rue bonaparte (nude eyeliner), makeup forever aqua eyes, nyx slide on pencils
• Mascara
i really don’t need to say much butttttt mascara is obviously a must. it opens up the eye and brings attention to them as well. curl-holding mascaras are generally better for creating that big-eyed effect!
I recommend: makeup forever aqua smoky eyes, maybelline define-a-lash waterproof
• Lipgloss
light pink, neutral, or clear glosses are the way to go for a natural look. they also make your lips look more plump :) you can also read my MLBB (my lips but better- shades that look very natural but add a nice color) 101 post here
I recommend: nyx butter glosses, buxom lip creams
