As I was watching Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) the other night, I realized that the interior of the space station that Floyd arrives on after traveling in the Pan Am space plane looked familiar.
And rightly so - it appears very similar in color and design to the world in Eureka’s and Renton’s minds when they speak to one another from separate areas in the cave of episode 16! Not surprising that this would be a reference, seeing as Space Odyssey is one of the most culturally-influential sci-fi films created.
And its interesting that the E7 staff chose the design of the space station hub as well - almost like a hub of communications between Eureka, Renton and Anemone (who all appear in this sequence).
Protip: carry something of E7 with you at all times so that when you’re out with a friend or five who haven’t seen it, you can walk up and say might you take some time out of your day today to hear about our sacred show E7
Headcanon where Dominic and Anemone hear The Lion Sleeps Tonight over the radio one time and Dominic mocks the ‘a whim away~’ bits by singing 'Anemone’~ constantly throughout the house to playfully annoy her
Fun facts about (pretty widely accepted) names for E7 ships
