dying-roses

You ever really think about how Amethyst knew nothing about herself prior to Rose dying? Because I do.

Amethyst has learned more since Rose died and Steven was born than she did in the thousands of years prior she’s been with them. More than that- she’s respected more now than she was before Rose died. They don’t carry her like a ragdoll or chuck sticks to make her leave them be. She’s not just Amethyst the troublemaker anymore. She’s Amethyst the Crystal Gem.

It took them thousands of years to get to this point. Thousands.

But it’s always been that way for the newbie, hasn’t it? Steven is just as out of the loop. Steven has been ignored and refused information as a staple of his entire life. It’s a battle to get the simplest tidbit out of Pearl and Garnet, and they hold all the answers.

I repeat: Pearl and Garnet know everything (in a metaphorical sense). Steven and Amethyst know next to nothing.

It’s Amethyst who first gives Steven a glimpse into the reality of Gems. It’s Amethyst who shows Steven the Kindergarten, explains to him how Gems (or, at the very least, Quartzes) are made. Amethyst gives him the keys because she’s always been forced to hotwire the car, and she doesn’t want him to have to feel that rejection like she has.

Because, outside of this, what does she know about her own history? She doesn’t. She’s been denied access.

Would knowing she was defective hurt? Of course it would. It hurts her now. But knowing isn’t a bad thing. It’s given her understanding. Amethyst finally understands why she’s felt off from Pearl and Garnet and Rose her whole life- it’s not all in her head, it’s also in her gemetics

So many bits and pieces of her life must make sense now. Why she couldn’t beat Pearl when Rose probably could. Why she’s flung more easily by corruptions and gets hurt and poofs more easily (not more often- that’s her recklessness)- her body isn’t quite normal. It doesn’t operate under normal Gem rules.

Would knowing more about Rose’s history hurt? Of course. But it’s also key to his character. Steven’s grown up idolizing Rose. Steven honestly thinks the Gems want him to be like Rose. And, one time, maybe he even wanted to be a little like Rose.

They didn’t have to tell him about Pink Diamond. They didn’t have to tell him she started a war. All they really needed to do was talk openly about her, about her flaws as a person, but, again, he’s been refused access. Pearl and Garnet don’t want Steven to know Rose the Gem, even now. Pearl and Garnet want Steven to know Rose the Idea. And, honestly, we’re past that point now. We can’t go back to that now. But they won’t go forward, either.

That’s one of the major differences between Steven and Amethyst- Amethyst has given up trying. Amethyst takes what she knows, the little bits and bobs, sticks them together with theory glue and hotwires the car. Steven has gotten the keys handed to him, once, and still has part of them now- he has Amethyst, who doesn’t lie about Gem things anymore, she just Doesn’t Know- and he doesn’t want to hotwire the car. He wants the full set of keys.

More than that; he’s willing to fight for the full set of keys.

He argues when Pearl and Garnet try to shut him out. He turns away from Garnet when she asks him to stay Just Because (he still would’ve gone if she had told him about BD, of course, but he doesn’t know that then). Amethyst?

Amethyst backs off and watches the drama. She doesn’t believe for a second that it’ll get him anywhere. She’s given up. In her mind, it’s only a matter of time before Steven does too.

Dark Quotes & Prompts

Anonymous said: Hi, thank you for all you do! I was wondering if you would have some dark quotes? I feel like there’s only light, airy ones floating around

Some of these are very negative and, well, dark, so if you’re not one for this sort of thing, please proceed warily.

Love

“She’s a saint with the lips of a sinner. She’s an angel with a devilish kiss.”

“If you don’t fight for what you love, you cry for what you lose.”

“I love you, as certain dark things are to be loved. In secret, between the shadow and the soul.” - Pablo Naruda

“Light is easy to love. Show me your darkness.” - R.Queen

“Hell sent us the most evil disease, and we humans called it “love” “- Conny Cernik

“You know that place between asleep and awake; that place where you can still remember dreaming? That’s where I will always love you. That’s where I will be waiting.” - Peter Pan

“But my dreams aren’t as empty as my conscience seems, to be. I have hours; only lonely. My love is vengeance that’s never free.”

“They told me not to play with fire, and I should’ve listened because I got burned by your soul and you left me in the ashes.”

“Until we’ve seen someone’s darkness we don’t really know who they are. Until we’ve forgiven someone’s darkness, we don’t really know what love is.” - Marianne Williamson

“We’re all searching for someone who’s demons play well with ours.”

“He saw the darkness in her beauty. She saw the beauty in his darkness.”

“I don’t really get why everything has to end. Nothing can be perfect but instead of quitting, People should try to fix their problems instead of leaving. Love is a really wonderful feeling but most people don’t know the real meaning.”

“He looked at me as if I were the only star in her darkest night and he kissed me as if I were the air that filled her lungs.”

“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.” - Mary Oliver

So, in honor of midsummer and the summer solstice I’ve teamed up with @witches-of-ouroboros and will be posting some seasonal witchy libations! First off is the most time consuming component of one of my cocktails, an infusion for summer vodka. Really it can be made or drank anytime if you have the ingredients and the time.

Supplies: rose petals and buds, chamomile, and elderflower, vodka, and a Mason jar.
The amount of each varies depending on the size of the Mason jar, but for the purpose of my example, I will be using an 8oz Mason jar.

Clean the jar well, even if it’s new. Hot water, soap, more hot water until all the soap is gone, and because I’m me, I pour a little vodka, and a splash of absinthe and swirl this all through the jar an lid both to give a final disinfection and, the absinthe adds a little more magical oomph. But absinthe is a topic for another day;)

I measured my dried* roses about a third if the way in the jar. Next a heaping tablespoon of chamomile, and another of elderflower. I added another few rose buds so it was just below the halfway point.
Top with vodka until you get a little bit below the rim!
Close tightly and shake once a day for the next 5-7
*dried flowers and herbs infuse faster and use up less space than fresh. If you have access to a large amount of fresh, food safe flowers and herbs for your infusions, have at it!

Almost forgot, taste it after five days and see if you want it stronger. It should have a delicate but noticeable flavor. Strain and store in a clean jar.

Roses have had their fair share in the histories and cultures. Used in love spells, prosperity and other rituals, the focus and intent of roses actually comes from a Greek legend concerning Aphrodite, the rose was created when the foam of the sea fell off her naked form, and her tears dyed the roses red. The rose represents a duality in love. Love of self, and love of another. New love and lost love.

Elderflowers are used to relieve emotional burdens and that feeling of being stuck, creating joy, and inviting prosperity and health into your life.

Chamomile is added for purification, prosperity and tranquility.

Roses are associated with water, vodka with earth, elderflower with the sun, and chamomile with fire.

I am detached
from feelings
and I’m so sorry
once again,
I let myself
get in the way
of things that
could be,
but won’t be
because I shouldn’t
say I love you
just to hear another
I told you so
letters to myself
disclosed, detached
these were supposed
to be the better days
but I’m not okay
I’m unhappy
and it’s not your fault
you shouldn’t have
to put up with me
you shouldn’t have
to love me
for what it’s worth
we could’ve been
something so much more
than just another poem
that I can’t write
these are Shakespeare’s
last words with a spin
and a twist, remembering
ways to not grab your hips
remembering ways
to not kiss your lips
there is poison slipped
into my pens,
I don’t write love poems
I write we’re kinda
fucked poems
I don’t write prose
I write the story
of the dying rose
If I give and give
If you take and take
If I love and love
and you trust and trust
which parts of us
will understand me
when I’m alone and numb
without you clogging up
my heart with another
apology that sounds like
I’m sorry, I wish we could’ve been
I wish we could be more
than just a pile of lust
and sin that won’t happen
dear Heavenly Father,
forgive me for my wicked ways
if I pray and pray
if I duck and dodge
your solemn words
that sever ties
that paint the walls
of my soul into crispy gold
into melted snow
my thoughts will follow
some lovers have hands
that I could hold
but I can’t stay
if I’m still not
over the mountain
of regrets and no,
I’ll leave by sunrise
even if your clothes are on
and we didn’t make love
we’re naked to the truth
you can see it in my eyes
I hate telling lies
so I don’t talk much
I hate small talk
so I don’t make friends
I don’t trust people
I barely trust myself
I’m a sinner that knows
how to love,
I’m an angel that fell
from above
another misunderstanding
and we’re still far from this place
baby, I’m detached from you
you deserve the moon and the stars
I cannot give you the universe
I cannot give you the sun
but maybe somebody else can
I cannot be in love with you
I cannot be in love with you
if I still don’t understand
if I still don’t know how to love myself
and if you love me for how I am
and if you have stayed this long
and if you really are in love with me
then understand that I am detached
a loop, a maze, a graze on your lips
I wear us thin into the pen
A pen is my weapon
and these words
are the cuts that I am made of
some truths sink into your skin
this love is razor sharp,
I’m out of bandages
I’m all out of love
I’m with shadows
near the shoreline
looking for inspiration
upon desperation
slowly now, slowly now
into the sunrise
one day from my ashes
I will rise, I will rise

A Rating Of Rose Style Variants In Homestuck

0-10, 0 being a good Rose, and 10 being an Amazing Rose, who I undoubtedly have saved to my phone. This is not a complete collection, as it is long enough.

The original- not great, but acceptable for the task at hand. I want to pretend I have some respect for the original, but when Rose was dying and they switched back to sprites, I said No out loud. The replacement looks better, and can be taken more seriously.  3/10

The replacement- good. Similar style, but more expressive. Look at this face. Sprite Rose made faces sometimes, but she was less colorful and less aesthetically pleasing. 8/10

Kanaya’s fantasy- very good. Not a fan of species swaps myself, but Kanaya was being very gay here, so it’s a nice Rose. 7/10

Rorb Lalorb- :) 10/10

One of the early attempts at varying from sprite style- very pretty, looks good. Probably took too long. 7/10

Grimdark Rose- looks fed up but is crying on the inside. Sad, bottles her pain. All Roses are good Roses, but this one needs a hug and a good cry. 6/10

Video Game Rose- good for walking around. Could not lead this Rose into a friend’s arms for a hug, so it could do with some improvement. 6/10

Act 7 Rose- Stands under trees. Leaves less to the imagination, and just not my favorite Rose. 2/10

A very detailed Rose- soft, innocent, a good change of style to portray the emotions that this closed off teen is feeling upon facing her death. A good Rose. 9/10

Injured Rose- Fighting, strong. Looks even more like a lesbian somehow. Is holding Kan’s hand out of frame. 8/10

Round- happy, smiling, nice shading. 6/10

Determined- small, fierce, simple. Gets the point across. 8/10

Talksprite- makes good expressions and looks very nice. Portrays her personality pretty well. 9/10

Embarrassed- has a good thicker look to her. Needs a hug. 10/10

Married, happy, SMILING, thank you homestuck and papers for my life. You get Kan, too. 20/10

WHAT KIND OF FLOWERS THE SLBP LORDS WOULD BRING YOU?

Soooo I haven’t done Headcanon posts in a while *nervously eyeing a pile of asks on her inbox* but @yoolee  ‘s prompt round up got this cute prompt about flowers and I LOVE FLOWERS  and the canon stories had so much reference of them so here you go!

THE FLOWER LORDS

Nobunaga: bouquets and bouquets of the reddest, most decadent looking roses. You receive one from the delivery guy but then another comes and another and another till they practically take over your restaurant/shop/office/wherever you work (yes, he sends them to your workplace because SHOW OFF)

Mitsuhide: A single, most perfect purple rose you’ve on your life that he has cultivated himself, and oh, he’s named the variety after you darling, of course.

Yukimura: Uh, umm, the Love Guide says red rose for love and white rose for friendship and yellow for longing and pink for crush and oh wait but he loves you and you’re his bestfriend too and he misses you and and, agh, he’s so confused so in the end he picked… a rainbow-dyed rose. Problem solved!

Nobuyuki: A colourful bouquet of flowers. When you ask him how he picked them, he just smiled mysteriously. Later you found out that each of those flowers has their own meanings in hanakotoba and that bouquet could either speak of the deepest devotion or convey unspeakably sinful desires - or both. Maybe both.

Saizo: Sunflowers and skyflowers - he has associated the flowers with good memories and they reminded him of you. All they serve as a some kind of a wish to ward off the rain.

Masamune: The cutest potted violets you’ve ever seen. Because he wants to give something that lasts and grows, you see.

Kojuro: Alas, Bontenmaru ate the beautiful daisy chain he’s made after countless trial and error. So he went to town to purchase a bottle of perfume instead. You knew this from Shigezane, of course.

Shigezane: A beautiful ikebana arrangement of your favourite flowers that he had created after hours of strict lesson from his Ikebana-master retainer Ibano Hiromasa-jiya, hahaha, the things he would for you, Doll!

Inuchiyo: A branch of plum blossom laden with buds picked from his family’s garden that would bloom in inside your home. Because it’s his family crest and he wants you to be a part of his family. Yes, eff you Inuchiyo can be philosophical sometimes - the Maedas owns one of the most fertile domains in Japan.

Hideyoshi: Edible bouquet of flowers made of  bananas persimmon fruits, and a chocolate fountain to dip them in, because it’s fun.

Ieyasu: Potted strawberries. Yes because once they bear fruits you are going to harvest them and make some daifuku, only for him. You better keep them alive till then.

Mitsunari: This vivid dark pink flower that just happens to be… blooming around. Don’t look at him that way you vile succubus, he said they just happened to be blooming around, didn’t you hear him, wipe that smile off!

Shingen: You want flowers? Then you better pick the ones you want yourself. He’ll bring you to the florist and tells you to go crazy. You’re a bit miffed because where is the surprise??? But hey, he means it when he said you can have anything there so go crazy you did.

Kenshin: Bringing you flowers? Eff that, let’s bring you to his flowers - a whole blooming garden of them - they’re yours, because you are the fairest flower of them all.

Kanetsugu: Origami flowers made by Ai. He tells you Ai wants you to have them. That does not explain why he is blushing though.

AND THE MOON NINJAS

Sakuya: A small bouquet of four-leaf clovers that he had painstakingly collect, for luck.

Genya: A sakura bonsai, so you can have an indoor hanami, no need to go out, yay!

Masanari Hanzo: A delicate bouquet of Lily of the Valley. Careful when you put them in the water though, he left the roots in - the water can turn poisonous, but hey you never knew when you need a handy poison, right?

Kyoichiro: a strange looking bulb he asks you plant. Later you found out that it was a strange flower with arrow-straight stem that apparently costs a dear sum in the western land called tulip.

Sasuke-san: What good are flowers, they will wilt and die? Here, have a feast of desserts shaped like all manners of flowers.

Kansuke: Potted geraniums. Put those outside the window, they’ll ward off mosquitos so you and Harunobu can sleep better, he said. You secretly weep because it is Kansuke you love, damnit!

Kotaro: Black lilies, he planted them himself. Smells divine, isn’t it - do you think you can display them when you’re serving dango for snacks tonight at the castle?

Hotaru: A strange and definitely the whitest flower you’ve seen in your live, encased in glass. Hotaru tells you Yuki gave it to him. But the flowers disintegrates into a glittery cloud of dust when you touch it. Oh, no, why do you feel… hot all the sudden? And why is Hotaru looking at you like that?
