Princess Beatrix opened the exhibition ‘Chapeaux, hats of Queen Beatrix’ on March 22, 2017. 

“The exhibition shows 100 hats of Queen Beatrix worn during her reign from 1980 till 2013. The hats are designed by Emy Bloemheuvel, Suzanne Moulijn and Harry Scheltens.”

4 February: King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and The Princess of Orange attended the wedding of Filippos Lemos and Marianna Goulandris. Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane were included as flower girls. The ceremony took place at the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sophia near Hyde Park, west London.


Queen Maxima, King Willem Alexander and Princess Beatrix attend the funeral of Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, the late husband of Princess Benedikte of Denmark, at the Evangelische Stadtkirche on March 21st, 2017 in Bad Berleburg, Germany.

Prince Richard was close friends with Princess Beatrix’s late husband, Prince Claus. Princess Beatrix met her future husband (for the second time) at the wedding of Richard’s sister, Princess Tatiana in the summer of 1964. When Prince Claus was dating Beatrix, Prince Richard helped to deceive the press and “acted” as Beatrix’s love interest. Beatrix married Claus two years later in 1966.


02/04/2017: Queen Maxima and King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands, Princess Catharina Amalia of the Netherlands, Princess Beatrice of York, Queen Anne-Marie and King Constantine of Greece, Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie Chantal of Greece, Princess Maria Olympia, Prince Nikolaos of Greece, and former Queen Sofia of Spain attended the wedding of Filippos Lemos and Marianna Goulandris in London, England. Marie Chantal and Pavlos’ son, Prince Odysseus-Kimon, also served as a ring bearer in the wedding. Princesses Alexia and Ariane of the Netherlands also served as flower girls. .


Various royals in attendance for the funeral of Prince Richard on March 21, 2017 in Bad Berleburg, Germany.  Prince Richard leaves behind his wife, Princess Benedikte who he married in 1968 and his three children, Prince Gustav, Princess Alexandra, and Princess Nathalie.  He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Count Richard von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth, Countess Ingrid von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth, Konstantin Johannsmann, and Louisa Johannsmann.
