Dundeel retires as a winner. "It’s A Dundeel has finished his racing career with an impressive victory in the 2014 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick this afternoon. It’s A Dundeel was positioned just off the lead by jockey James McDonald and the High Chapparal entire was too good in the final stages of the race to score his sixth Group 1 win from Sacred Falls and Silent Achiever.”
Happy retirement, champ! He will stand at Arrowfield Stud
I am so sad to hear that High Chaparral has been put to sleep today during exploratory colic surgery at Fethard Equine Hospital.
The son of Sadler’s Wells and Kasora, born on 1 March 1999, trained by Aidan O’Brien, had a record of 13: 10-1-2, with victories in the 2001 Racing Post Trophy, 2002 Epsom Derby and Irish Derby, 2003 Irish Champion Stakes, and two Breeders’ Cup Turfs which resulted in two American Champion Male Turf titles in 2002 and 2003.
At stud he sired stars such as So You Think, Toronado, It’s A Dundeel, Shoot Out, Descarado, Redwood, Western Hymn, High Jinx, Lucky Lion, Hawk High, Free Eagle and the late Wigmore Hall.
Rest In Peace, big boy. You will be missed. 1 March 1999 - 21 December 2014
Yesterday I looked at this photograph of Sadler’s Wells followed by his sons Galileo, Montjeu and High Chaparral and thought it was sad that only two of the four stallions are still alive. Now, only Galileo is back.
