Commentary of this du'aa: This prayer is very comprehensive. Sometimes a person does a virtuous deed but it is tainted with slight hypocrisy or pride. It is an element which destroys even the most virtuous deeds. It is this mischief against which Allah’s Protection has been sought through this prayer.
“Once, when I saw the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in a good mood, I said to him: “Oh Messenger of Allâh! Supplicate to Allâh for me!” So, he said: “Oh Allâh! Forgive ‘Â'ishah’s past and future sins, what she has hidden, as well as what she has made apparent.” So, I began smiling, to the point that my head fell into my lap out of joy. The Messenger of Allâh صلى الله عليه وسلم said to me: “Does my supplication make you happy?” I replied: “And how can your supplication not make me happy?” He then said: “By Allâh, it is the supplication that I make for my Ummah in every prayer.”
[Reported in 'Sahih Mawarid adh- Dhaman’ (1875), and it is in 'as- Silsilah as-Sahihah’ (2254)]
“If he has good thoughts about Allaah, that he will be answered, then he will be answered bi’ithnillaah. But if he says ‘I don’t think I will be answered’ and the like, then he will be deprived of the answer – and refuge is sought in Allaah – because he did not have good thoughts of his Lord.”
Ya Allaah, allow me to be amongst those who will see Your Face on the Day Your decision is final, Ya Allaah allow me to make sujood to You on the Day you distinguish between the wicked and the righteous, Ya Allaah allow me to be from amongst those You call “Ya Ahlul Jannah!”
Oh اللهyou have never abandoned me, I sin repeatedly and You have repeatedly covered me, I disobey continuously and You continuously give me opportunities to obey You. I am ashamed as I stand before You. I raise my hands a seek your pleasure, I raise my hands and beg Your pardon and forgiveness. You are my only Protector and You are my only Guardian.
