The Missing Cupcake

“Thanks Marinette.” Chat’s voice was muffled as he spoke around the half of a croissant he’d stuffed in his mouth. If Marinette wasn’t so used to interpreting him with his mouth full she would have never understood what he’d said. A moment more of chewing the pastry then Chat continued after gulping it down. “I definitely owe you one.”

Throughout my life, love was never my thing. I was surrounded by countless couples and seeing them together made me envious. I saw them and I wanted it. I wanted what they shared, how they loved, how happy they were, all of it. I longed to have someone to hold and cherish and so I tried giving love a shot, but the bullet came firing back at me. After it happened multiple times, I began to resent love and relationships. If love decided I wasn’t worth its time, then what was the point of trying? I convinced myself that I was meant to be alone so I built walls to make sure I would never have to go through that pain ever again. My mind was set on a loveless life but when I met you it was like an earthquake struck in my head. Every wall that had been built started to crumble and alarms began to blare in my head. I never thought a day like this would come. I was so sure that I’d never want anything to do with love but when I’m with you, it’s all I want. You make me feel like I’m on a drop tower rapidly plummeting down; like I’m in a whole other universe; like I’m living in a fantasy. There so many different emotions I feel when I’m with you and I am in awe. It’s hard to explain what I’m thinking and feeling because I’ve suppressed these emotions for the longest time. I want to be with you and to learn everything about you from your favourite colour, to your greatest fear, to your most embarrassing memory, to all the little things that other people fail to notice, but I’m not sure how. These walls of mine were meant to keep people out and as much as I want them to be demolished, I’m terrified of doing so. I’m scared of getting hurt but everyday, I’m getting closer to risking it all for you. I know that I can be distant and sometimes it may look like I could care less but I’m trying my very hardest to make that all change. I think I’m finally ready and if it had to be anybody in this world, I would choose to take a leap of faith with you.

Rumors - Fred Weasley Imagine

-Requested-

~
Can you make a imagine with Fred and the Reader and they are going out since the Yule Ball and Angelina hates the Reader ever since they started dating and she tries to break us up by spreading rumors that I am a cheating whore and stuff and Fred believes them and then we fight and break up and I am depressed and one day Fred overhears Angelina talking to her friends about me and the rumors and he comes back to em and explains and we get back together? :) ^^ <3
~

•A/n: I’m really sorry that Angelina has a lot of Point of view in this story! Sorry!•

•Warning: Crazy Angelina Johnson! Reader feeling depressed and a bit suicidal!•

~Angelina’s POV~

My blood boils as I watch them. Them as in my big crush and my arch enemy. There they are just kissing and laughing and smiling. It make me sick to my stomach. They started dating when Fred and (Y/n) went to the Yule Ball. It should have been me that Fred asked out. It should have been me that kissed Fred that night of the ball. Not (Y/n) (Y/l/n). They sit across me a few seats down but I still watch them from the corner of my eye. I watch as Fred feeds her a strawberry making my fists clench up into balls. I stand up and storm right out of the Great Hall. (Y/n) better watch out because she has a big thing coming for her.

~The Next Morning~

Last night I thought about what I should do to get my true love back and to get that bitch to suffer. I thought long and hard and something finally popped into my head. What spreads faster than wild fire in Hogwarts? Rumors! That’s it! That’s the plan! If I’m gonna spread rumors what am I going to say? ’(Y/n) has rabies’ No. Think, Think, Think! What am I going to say to make Fred break up with (Y/n)? She cheats on him! Because she’s a whore! Sounds like what (Y/n) would do! I yell in excitement making some of my roommates look at me funny “Sorry” I mumble before putting on a fresh robe and slipping on my shoes. I walk out the door ready for the task that I’m going to finish. “Hey guys!” I said in a little over excited tone making my group of friends look at me funny again. “Hey Ange! What’s up with the excitement?” One of my friends asked me “Oh, nothing exciting. But I did hear something interesting down at the courtyard.” I said in a causal voice “What is it?” They all said together leaning in more closely hungry for, you guessed it, Gossip. “I overheard two Slytherins talking about (Y/n)” I said smirking “And?” One of them said gesturing with their hands.“And… (Y/n) walked out of a broom closet looking like a mess and that a Ravenclaw boy also came out of the closet.” I said crossing my arms over my chest, they gasped. “(Y/n) cheated on Fred!” They said aloud making some people look in our direction. I smiled and nodded my head vigorously “Bye” I said in a cool tone leaving them in their spot. Once I get to the next corridor, I peak around the corner to see that the people who were looking at us came up to my friends to ask what was going on. I laughed to myself, before happily skipping to my true love. Fred. “Hey Fred” I said in a low but seductive voice, Fred sighs before looking up from his book. “What do you want Angelina?” He asked, He sometimes acts annoyed around me but I know he’s just acting. “I was just wondering if maybe you heard?” I bit my bottom lip and held my hands behind my back “Heard what?” He asked his tone definitely showing that he was interested “Heard the things about what (Y/n) did” I said lowly, he stood up “What did (Y/n) do?” He asked in a demanding tone “She cheated on you” I said quietly, making a sad face to show sympathy. “Your lying” he said clenching his fist “Don’t believe me? Ask anyone. They saw (Y/n) come out of a broom closet with a Ravenclaw.” I said with a shrug of my shoulders. I spin around and walk away with a smile on my face.

~Fred’s POV~

“Don’t believe me? Ask anyone. They saw (Y/n) come out of a broom closet with a Ravenclaw.” Angelina said with a shrug of her shoulders. My mouth opened as she walked away. I looked at the ground as my fists clenched tightly, my teeth gritting. I huff out before grabbing my bag, I walk as fast as I can up to Gryffindor tower to get some answers to see if the rumors are true. As I walk, I can’t help but notice that everyone is giving me strange looks making me really uncomfortable. I walk faster and avoid getting to close to anyone, I make it to Gryffindor tower and enter. I see (Y/n) in front of the fire reading a book, I look around to see that the common room is completely. I walk up to (Y/n) but stand a few feet away from her “Hi Freddie!” She says happily but frowns when I don’t reply “Is it true?” I said in a low but dangerous voice “What?” She asks confused putting her book down “Is it true?!” I said loudly making (Y/n) flinch “Is what true?” She stands up “Is it true that your cheating on me?!” I yell, she opens her mouth then closes it again a confused look on her face “Fred, what are you talking about?” She says stepping closer but I step back. “Are you cheating on me?” I say more calmly this time “No! Why - Why would you think that?” She said in a confused tone. I roll my eyes at her “I don’t believe you!” I blurt out “Fred! You know I would never do that to you! I love you!” She said loudly. I shake my head a few times before slamming my hands onto one of the wooden tables “Stop lying to me!” I yell “Tell me the truth!” I see tears rolling down her cheeks.

~(Y/n)’s POV~

I feel tears roll down my cheeks, I wipe them with the back of my hand. “I am telling the truth! I never cheated on you!” I screamed, my voice cracking. He huffs out in frustration. He still doesn’t believe me. How could he do this? How could he blame me for something I didn’t do? I love Fred and I would never ever cheat on him but I guess he doesn’t believe me. “How can we have a relationship if we don’t be honest with each other?!” He yells pushing the table making it fall, I flinch. “I am being honest! Fred, please! Why don’t you believe me?!” I cried, Fred yelling and pushing things just pushed me over the edge of tears. I cried into my hands “You know what? This relationship is over! You cheat on me and now you can’t even tell me the truth! Don’t you ever talk or come near me again!” He said through gritted teeth. I sob “I didn’t cheat on you! I’m telling the truth Fred! Please!” I cried. He shook his head before storming out of the common room. Leaving me behind, leaving our relationship behind. I fall to my knees, I cry and scream and beg for Fred to come back but he never does. My friends soon finds me crying and comforts me, they ask me about the rumors and I tell them it’s not true. They believe me. I told them everything that happened and they comforted me till I fell asleep but right before I close my eyes I wished that I would die to never live another day without Fred by my side, and to never live a painful day like this. I wake up and feel horrible. I have this pain in my stomach. I look around the room and see that my roommates beds were empty, they all left for breakfast. I slump onto the floor not feeling the energy to stand up. “Why can’t I die already?!” I said aloud tears falling down my cheeks yet again. Fred. All I can think about is Fred. I miss him so much.

~Fred’s POV~

I currently sat on a bench, invisible to everyone. Literally. I was under Harry’s invisibility cloak, he let me borrow it because he knew how it felt to have everyone look at you. I looked at my hands, Large salty tears falling into my knuckles. I miss (Y/n) so much right now. I want to hold her in my arms, I want to tell her how much I love her, how much she means to me. But how could I forgive her? She cheated on me. I stiffen as I hear voices come towards my direction, it was two girls voices that belonged to Angelina Johnson and her friend, Rosie Grey. I heard Rosie gasp, making me stand up and slowly inch my way towards the two girls. “You did what?!” Rosie exclaimed “Shh! Lower your voice!” Angelina hissed “I’m the one who made the rumors up!” Angelina said in a hushed voice. “Why?” Rosie asked confused “Because, It’s supposed to be me and Fred! Angelina and Fred! Not Fred and that Wench!” Angelina laughed. I threw the cloak off of my head and shoulders making the girls gasp and widen their eyes. “First off, there’s never ever gonna be an Angelina and Fred! And that ‘Wench’ is my girlfriend, the best thing that has ever happened to me! She’s beautiful, smart, and kind, so if you think that I’ll forget (Y/n) just like that. You’re wrong. So you better bloody back off or you’ll have me to deal with! Understood?!” I yelled. Angelina opened then closed her mouth quickly, she nodded slowly “Good” I mumbled before running off to Gryffindor tower where the love of my life is.

~(Y/n)’s POV~

I look down at my hands, one holding a handful of blue pills the other a water bottle. I start to sob again. Am I really going to take my life right now? I open my mouth and close my eyes shut, I raise the hand with the pills and was about to put it in my mouth but rapid knocking on my door stopped me. I quickly tried to put the pills back into the mini tube but dropped mostly all of them on the floor due to the banging on the door. “Shit” I mumble under my breath before standing to open the door, there he stands. Fred. His hair a mess, his eyes red and puffy, tears rolling down his cheeks. I look down not wanting him to see me cry “(Y/n) I’m so sorry about everything. I was stupid enough to actually believe those rumors, that weren’t true. I should’ve believed you, I should’ve know that you were telling the truth. But if you give me a second chance, I promise to never be stupid again. I miss you so much it hurts, I can’t bear to not kiss you at least once a day or at least call you beautiful. Please, I want to be part of your life again because your my future (Y/n)” he says his voice getting lower by each word. I slowly sink to my knees sobbing into my hands, Fred embraced me into a tight hug. I hear him gasp “We’re you going to eat those?” He asked pulling back from the hug. He saw the pills. I looked at the floor before he grabbed my chin and forced me to look at him. “We’re you gonna eat those?” He asked in a more demanding voice, I nodded slowly making a sob escape his lips. He pulled me back into the hug, he held me against him tightly “Please, don’t ever leave me. I love you so much.” He whispered rocking me and him, back and forth slightly. “I love you too” I whisper.

“Forgotten”

~Reader~

Your eyes stung with tears of anger as you slammed your hand on your nightstand and took your car keys in your shaking fingers. “I am going, Pietro, and you have no right to stop me.”

“I have every right, you are my girlfriend.” Pietro said from the other side of the room, then zoomed over to you and tried to pry the keys from you. “This is so stupid, Y/N!”

“Visiting my mother isn’t stupid, you inconsiderate bastard!” You spat at him.

“It’s pouring out, you won’t be able to see two feet in front of you when you are driving.” Pietro said, jutting a finger in the direction of your bedroom window. “It’s dangerous to go out in a storm like this.”

“I haven’t seen my mom in months.” You growled angrily, but also with an underlining tone of sadness. You had been so tied up with your work with the team and training, and this was the only day you managed to get off. You were not giving it up just because of the rain!

Your boyfriend was very important to you, but so was your family. You knew, deep down, that he was right about the entire situation, but you refused to listen.

You narrowed your eyes at him and shoved him out of the way, snatching your coat and bag from your bed. “I am going!”

His bright blue eyes widened furiously, then he crossed his arms over his chest and snarled at you, “Fine, go. And you know what? When–no, if you come back, you won’t have a boyfriend anymore.”

His words stung you, but you had to maintain your pride. “Yeah? Well, guess what Maximoff? You’re going to loose your girlfriend.”

You took two long strides to the door, Pietro just stood where he was and watched you while he sulked in his own negative energy. You opened it, then paused for a moment.

“Actually, you already have.” You said, but this time your voice was much quieter and much, much more broken.

You ran past every one of your teammates in the tower with your head down and tears streaming down your face. You made it to the parking garage alright, but when you climbed into your car and shut the door, you broke down in sobs.

You absolutely hated fighting with Pietro. You two barley ever had serious arguments, just a little bickering here and there, nothing ever big. But this? You were pretty sure that the two of you had just broken up.

You turned the car on and peeled out of the garage, only to be met with a blast of rain and wind. Yes, you had seen worse, but your upset and chaotic emotions made it all that more difficult to drive.

You were almost out of the city, just a few more roads to go before you hit the bridge, but you never made it. Your sluggish thoughts slowed your reaction time, so by the time you looked to your left and saw another car coming at the side of you in the intersection, it was too late.

The last thing you felt was your brain shutting down, and your heart being shattered into a million different fragments. You had never felt so much pain in your life.

~Pietro~

It has been weeks since he had last seen Y/N. At first, he didn’t worry all that much. He just assumed that she had decided to stay a few extra days with her mother because she was so upset at him, but then things began to change.

SHIELD agents came into the tower and began to clear out all of her stuff; putting them in labeled boxes and eventually loading them up into a truck to be shipped off. Pietro stood by and watched them sort through everything she owned, but every time he asked why they were doing it, they told him that they were under strict orders not to tell. Wanda, of course, was out on a mission at the time, so she could not search their minds for him.

No one on the team knew anything about what had happened to her, it was like she had just fallen off the face of the earth.

Pietro began to question if she had ever made it to her mom’s house, or if something had happened to her on the drive. He consistently played the fight that he had with her in his mind over and over again. He was convinced that the last words he would ever get to say to her was when he told her that he was breaking up with her.

Well, that was until he saw her on the streets.

He was walking up the busy and crowded New York City street side to get Wanda her favorite iced coffee from a small café a few blocks away from the tower, and that was when he had spotted her.

He had done it a few times before; thought he had seen her, but when he blinked it was someone else entirely. However, this time, there was no mistake in it. The way her Y/H/C fell around her shoulders, they way she smiled, even the way her shoulders shook when she laughed. It was Y/N, there was no question in his mind.

There she was, sitting in a window booth in the very same café he was heading to.

When he walked inside he was greeted by the scent of pastries and coffee, along with the sight of the love of his life. She was alone, fiddling with her thumbs, and occasionally looking over to the long line where Pietro saw her mother waiting to order their drinks.

The two of them were in the city…and they hadn’t even thought to call? To tell him, and the rest of the team, that she was even alive?

“Y/N…” Pietro said, though he had trouble finding the will to push the words out of his numb lips.

She looked up at the sound of her name, then tilted her head to the side in confusion at Pietro. “Do I know you?”

What?

“Y/N, of course you know me.” Pietro said with a nervous laugh. “What are you talking about?”

“You must have me confused with someone else, sir.” She said with a small smile, looking genuinely sorry.

“Who are you talking to?” Her mother’s voice said from behind Pietro, then came around to put the drinks on the table. When she slid into the booth next to her daughter and looked at him, all the color drained from her face. “Oh, no.”

“What do you mean, ‘oh no’?” Pietro said through tight lips as he tried to conceal his anger. He didn’t want to scare Y/N off. “Why is it that she can’t remember me?”

Her mother gently grabbed her arm and began to tug her away from the table and towards the door. “Honey, we should go.”

She shook her head furiously, clearly trying to put all of the pieces together. “Mom, what is going on?”

Her mother didn’t answer, she just pulled her out of the café and back into the streets quickly. Pietro was too numb to chase after her, he just stood there and looked at Y/N with tears in his eyes as she went with her mother.

~*~*~*~*~

“I want Fury, now!”

Pietro stormed into the tower with a dark look etched on his face. He was past the sadness, now he was down right furious. He wanted answers.

“Brother, what happened?” Wanda came up to him and placed a comforting hand on his arm, but he ripped himself out of her touch and marched over to Stark.

“Stark, contact Fury. I want to speak with him.” He hissed at Tony.

Tony held his hands up and distanced himself from Pietro. “Whoa, Speedy, maybe we should calm down a bit–”

“We don’t have time to calm down!” Pietro’s eyes were ablaze with a fire that Wanda had never seen. “I need to talk to him now!”

Wanda had had enough of guessing, so she jumped into his mind and sorted through his emotions to find the source of his rage.

Pietro saw as Wanda gasped and left his thoughts, her crimson eyes wide open in shock. “You found Y/N?”

The entire team’s gaze snapped up to him, and that was when Tony’s tone got much more serious. “Meet me in the lab, I’ll get ahold of him.”

Every one of the Avengers crowded around a large screen which had Fury projected onto it. Pietro stood in the middle with his sister holding onto his arms to support him.

“What was this about, Pietro?” Fury said, sounding tired and annoyed like always. But, unlike most times, Pietro wasn’t intimidated by him. He had much more important things on his mind.

“What haven’t you told us about Y/N’s disappearance?” Pietro asked, his tone hard and bitter.

Fury didn’t seem surprised. “I am not permitted to tell you anything about it.”

“I’m not playing fucking games, Fury!” Pietro shouted at him.“I just ran into the love of my life on the streets, and she had no fucking idea who I even was! So, you are going to tell me everything you know, right now, or else Quicksilver isn’t going to be apart of the Avengers anymore.”

The entire team made similar threats, which put Fury in a pretty tight position. He couldn’t afford to loose everyone.

“Fine, but just know that I’m breaking the rules.” Fury said with a bitter sigh. “Y/N got into a serious car crash the night she left Avengers Tower.”

Pietro felt his stomach drop to his feet.

“She was able to pull through, clearly, but the more recent years of her life had been wiped clean from her memory due to a head injury she received.” Fury explained. “Once she was cleared from the hospital, her mother informed SHIELD that Y/N would be unable to work for us again, and that she wished for the details of the incident to be private.”

“W-what?” Pietro said, he felt his body swaying back and forth. “Why would she not want to tell us what happened?”

“She said that she didn’t want her daughter to be involved with the team again, she thinks that this type of life is too dangerous for her. She saw a chance to pull her out and she did.”

Silence fell over the team, and even Fury looked a little shaken himself. He had never gotten to know Y/N like the team did, but he still saw her as a good person from the few times he did meet her. He knew that she didn’t deserve what life gave her.

“Is she ever going to remember us?” Wanda asked quietly.

“It’s unclear, the hospital couldn’t determine whether it would be short-lived or permanent."

Wanda’s crimson lips curled up into a smile, and she hit her brother’s arms excitedly. "I have an idea! What if I went into her mind and tired to unlock her old memories?”

Pietro looked over at his twin and kissed both of her cheeks. “We have to try. We have to.”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Fury had contacted Y/N’s mother and, after a lot of reasoning, had convinced her to take Y/N to the tower and see if they can restore her memory. Her mother wasn’t to keen on the idea of her possibly remembering her life as an Avenger, however, in the end she recognized that her selfish desire to want her daughter safe with her shouldn’t overrule Y/N’s right to having her memory.

Y/N was escorted through the tower by Natasha to the common room, where Wanda and Pietro had a seat pulled up for her to sit in. Pietro could see her eyes flicking around as she soaked her surroundings in, and he could see a dim sense of familiarity.

She looked over at him and smiled a little as she recognized him as the man from the café. Pietro felt his heart clench, this had  to work.

Wanda guided her by her shoulders over to the seat, then kneeled down so that she was right in front of her. “This won’t hurt, okay?”

She nodded slowly, though Pietro could see the fear in her. Almost out of instinct, he reached out and grabbed her hand.

Wanda reached up and gently placed her finger tips on Y/N’s forehead, and a string of red energy began to flow through her skin and to her head.

Pietro stood by her side every second, and felt her squeeze his hand when she began to get uncomfortable.

Wanda’s eyes narrowed as she searched through her thoughts and suppressed memories, then slowly but surely began to release them from where they had been stuck.

Y/N’s eyes were screwed shut at the sensation of her brain being picked at, but she remained strong and stuck it through. Pietro was so very proud of her, even if it didn’t work. He would always love her, even if she never remembers that she used to feel the same way about him.

“I have done all I can do.” Wanda said with a sigh as she sat down fully on the floor, breathing heavily. “I have no idea how many memories I was able to bring to the surface, it could be all or it could be none.”

Wanda scooted out of the way so that Pietro could come in front of her. He crouched down to be eye level with Y/N and placed a head on each of her shoulders.

“Baby, open your eyes.”

She slowly obeyed, and she saw him sitting in front of her she jumped onto him and planted the biggest kiss she could onto his lips.

Nearly falling, he wrapped his arms around her waist and stood up with her, then spun her around while he continued to kiss her. The rest of the team was laughing and letting go of the breathes that they had been holding onto.

“Piet I love you.” Y/N mumbled against his lips, tears falling down her cheeks. “I love you so much.”

He let go of her lips and planted smaller, more gentle kissed on her cheeks and forehead. “Baby, I missed you so much.”

He was never, ever going to let her go again.

Can I get a stucky love confessions plz

Steve Rogers used to have a hard time sleeping back when he was small and sickly all the time. His lungs would keep him up wheezing in the cold months or he’d have some kind of fever in the summer months and be too hot to sleep.

When he woke up out of the ice, Steve didn’t want to sleep. He’d spent enough time with this eyes closed and there was just too much to do. Sleep could wait.

Now that he has Bucky back, Steve could sleep again. It was as if Bucky’s death had been weighing on him so heavily, this oppressive guilt on his chest, that he hadn’t been able to sleep. But Bucky sleeping in the next room means that Steve can finally catch a little shut eye.

“Up and at ‘em, Rogers,” Bucky said, slapping Steve hard on the ass and making him jolt out of his sleep.

“Jeez, Buck,” Steve said, rubbing his eyes as he attempted to wake up. “What time is it?”

“Just after six,” Bucky said, going through Steve’s drawers and pulling out a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. He chucked them at Steve and then stood there waiting. Sometimes he looked so much like his old self again that it made Steve’s chest ache. Right now he looked every bit the stoic Winter Soldier, just a little less murderous than usual. At least the Brooklyn sweater and blue sweats he was wearing softened his look a little, his long brown hair pulled back into a low ponytail.

Steve slipped out of bed and put on the clothes Bucky had picked out for him. A pair of red sweats and a blue t-shirt that said “Made in the USA” on it that Tony had gotten him as a joke. Steve slipped the t-shirt over his head and gave Bucky a pointed look. “Really, Buck?”

A large grin spread across Barnes’ face and just like that he was Bucky again. “What?” he asked, shrugging innocently.

Steve rolled his eyes before following Bucky out of the room. They each grabbed an apple and munched on it as they made their way out of the Avengers’ tower. Bucky set the pace as they began their morning jog, now a usual routine for the two of them.

They jogged easily next to each other and Steve was happy to have someone that could finally keep up with him - no offense to Sam. Every once and a while, Steve and Bucky would run outright, racing each other to see who would win. Most times Steve let Bucky win, but you’d never hear him say it out loud.

It didn’t take long to realize they were headed for Brooklyn.

They stopped at a bakery and each got a sticky cinnamon roll that was difficult to eat as they walked. It was strange being back in Brooklyn with Bucky. Almost like they never left.

They walked around and reminisced about old places they used to go to. Most of them had been torn down to make places that were much nicer than anything Steve had ever imagined back when he was a sickly little kid.

It was such a perfect day that Steve didn’t even notice that the sun was setting. As they walked along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and looked out at the East River. “This was a great day, Bucky,” Steve told him, leaning against the railing and smiling at his oldest and dearest friend.

“It ain’t over yet, Rogers,” Bucky said with a knowing grin.

At the moment a firework exploded in the sky behind Steve’s head. He gasped and turned around to find another Firework shooting off. It was the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks, which meant…

“Oh my god,” Steve said, feeling like an idiot.

Bucky laughed and shoved his hands in his pockets. “Knew you’d catch on eventually.”

“It’s my birthday,” Steve said incredulously. “How did I not know it was my birthday?”

“Because you’re an idiot, Stevie,” Bucky joked, elbowing Steve in the side playfully.

“You took me out for my birthday,” Steve said, completely in awe. “You brought me to Brooklyn so we could watch the fireworks together just like when we were kids.”

Bucky smiled sheepishly and tucked a stray hair behind his ear. “Yeah, well, Stark wanted to do some big thing at the tower with all the Avengers. Said he wanted to try and get you drunk, apparently alcohol has come a long way from the swill we used to drink.” Bucky sighed and looked out over the water. “I said you wouldn’t want all that. I thought maybe it would be better if it was just you and me. But I guess part of me was just being selfish.”

Steve reached out and pulled Bucky closer to him. “I like that you were selfish about this,” he said as quietly as he could while still being heard over the fireworks. “It was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time, Buck.”

“Well, you deserve it, Stevie,” Bucky said, leaning in against Steve’s side. “I can’t guarantee the others won’t have a cake waiting for us when we get back, though.”

“Any chance you think we could sneak in without being seen?” Steve asked, getting an idea. If this went South, it would be the biggest mistake of his life, but something in him felt that it wasn’t going to.

“Stark’s security is some of the best but I think I could probably find a way around it,” Bucky told him with a shrug. “Why would you want that?”

Steve smiled and cupped Bucky’s cheek, turning his face to the side. He leaned down, which was completely new when it came to Bucky, and pressed their lips together. It didn’t last long, but it was one of the greatest moments of Steve’s life. Years of imagining what it would be like to kiss Bucky and now he finally had gotten up the courage to find out. After a moment, Steve pulled back but kept his hand on Bucky’s face, his thumb gently stroking along his jawline. “Because I have some other ideas for how I’d like to spend my birthday.”

Bucky huffed out a laugh and grinned at him. “Whatever you want, Doll.” He surged forward again and captured Steve’s lips. They continued kissing until the last firework went off and the smoke cleared from the sky. Once it was as quiet as Brooklyn ever got, they pulled apart and beamed at each other like excited children.

As they started back towards the tower, Steve reached down and took Bucky’s hand in his own. Bucky rolled his eyes but didn’t pull away, which Steve took to be a win. “Hey Buck,” Steve said quietly.

“Yeah?”

“I might be in love with you, a little bit,” he confessed, giving Bucky’s hand a small squeeze. “In fact I might have been in love with you my whole damn life.”

Bucky laughed and dropped Steve’s hand in favor of slipping his arm around his waist and holding Steve close. “You’re a sap, Rogers.”

Steve blushed and ducked his head down. “So you don’t…I mean you don’t have to, Buck…”

“Stevie,” Bucky called out, getting Steve’s attention again and stopping him from spiraling. “Been waitin’ to hear you say that for nearly a century now.”

Steve laughed and buried his nose in Bucky’s hair, the familiar scent making him feel at ease and home again. “We’re terrible at this, aren’t we?”

Bucky shook his head. “We just needed time to get it right,” Bucky informed him.

Steve took that in for a moment and nodded. Life would have been tough trying to be together back when they were young, even with all of Steve’s recklessness, he never would have risked it. He never would have risked Bucky.

“Happy birthday, sweetheart,” Bucky said, tugging Steve down into another kiss. “Love you,” he added quickly.

Steve felt like his heart was going to beat out of his own chest, he was so happy. By the time they made it back to the Avenger’s Tower, they had forgotten about trying to sneak in and were ambushed by the team. There was cake and pizza and alcohol. Steve felt so lucky to be surrounded by his friends, but he was still disappointed he hadn’t gotten some real alone time with Bucky. He’d been waiting long enough to get his hands on the man, couldn’t he catch a damn break?

Bucky seemed to sense the tension radiating off of Steve. He walked over and bent down, letting his lips brush against Steve’s temple. “Don’t worry, baby, we’ve got time,” he said softly so only Steve could hear. “You can unwrap your present later.”

Steve shivered in response and felt himself smile so wide his cheeks hurt. It was his birthday, Bucky was alive, and they’d kissed on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.

They had time.

Her hair was up in a ponytail
Her favorite dress tied with a bow
Today was Daddy’s Day at school
And she couldn’t wait to go.
But her mommy tried to tell her,
That she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
If she went to school alone.
But she was not afraid;
She knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
Of why he wasn’t there today.
But still her mother worried,
For her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
She tried to keep her daughter home.
But the little girl went to school,
Eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees,
A dad who never calls.
There were daddies along the wall in back,
For everyone to meet
Children squirming impatently,
Anxious in their seats.
One by one the teacher called,
Each student from the class.
To introduce their daddy,
As seconds slowly passed.
At last the teacher called her name,
Every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
For a man who wasn’t there.
“Where’s her daddy at?”
She heard a boy call out.
“She probably doesn’t have one”
Another student dared to shout.
And from somewhere near the back,
She heard a daddy say,
“Looks like another deadbeat dad,
Too busy to waste his day.”
The words did not offened her,
As she smiled up at her mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
Who told her to go on.
And with hands behind her back,
Slowly she began to speak.
And out from the mouth of a child,
Came words incredibly unique.
“My daddy couldn’t be here,
Because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
Since this is such a special day.
And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
And how much he loves me so.
He loved to tell me stories
He taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
And taught me to fly a kite.
We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him,
I’m not standing here alone.
Cause my daddy’s always with me
Even though we are apart.
I know because he told me,
He’ll forever be in my heart.”
With that, her little hand reached up,
and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
Beneath her favorite dress.
And from somewhere in the crowd of dads,
Her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
Who was wise beyond her years.
For she stood up for the love
Of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
Doing what was right.
And when she dropped her hand back down,
Staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
But its message clear and loud.
“I love my daddy very much,
He’s my shining star.
And if he could he’d be here,
But heaven’s just too far.
You see he was a fireman
And died just this past year.
When airplanes hit the towers
And taught Americans to fear.
But sometimes when I close my eyes,
It’s like he never went away.”
And then she closes her eyes,
And saw him there that day.
And to her mother’s amazement,
She witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
All starting to close their eyes.
Who knows what they say before them,
Who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
They saw him at her side.
“I know you’re with me Daddy.”
To the silence she called out.
And what happened next made believers,
Of those once filled with doubt.
Not one in that room could explain it,
For each of their eyes had been closed.
But there on the desk beside her,
Was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.
And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
By the love of her shining bright star.
And given the gift of believing,
That heaven is never too far

KakaSaku Month: Restraint

Sakura froze as Kakashi suddenly knelt in before her in the middle of a dusty market road buzzing with people. His eyes creased with a hidden smile beneath his mask as he warmly took her hand into his.

This couldn’t be it, could it? Here? Now?

When she saw him take a deep breath to ease what she assumed was his nerves, her heart beat inside her chest started to pound like a jack hammer. Sakura held her breath as she stared at him in stunned disbelief.
