“Acting is such a personal thing, which is weird because at the same time it’s not. It’s for the consumption of other people. But in terms of creative outlets and expressing yourself, it’s just the most extreme version of that that I’ve ever found. It’s like running, it’s exertion. When you reach that point where you can’t go anymore and you stop and you take a breath, it’s that same sort of clearing of the mind.”
You can never make everyone happy, that’s something I’ve really learned. My aim is therefore to deliberately not wanting to make everyone happy. If it is something you want to achieve in life that can be scary, because you can not possible pleasen everyone. As long as you make your own decisions and do things because who you are there will always be people who agree with you and who are not. If you feel comfortable It really does not matter. Because at the end of the day, who really gives a sh*t what dress I’m wearing?‘
I guess we definitely had a strange dynamic…I mean I was just quite intimated by her, and it was weird and at the same time I was like ‘You’re younger than me, you can’t intimidate me!’ - Robert Pattinson
By putting up walls, you think you’re protecting yourself, but you get to live less. If you’re hiding behind a wall, then you can’t see over it. You’re depriving yourself of so much if you’re trying to be too aware of what you’re putting out there. If you feel someone breaking those walls down, let them. Those are the people that you need to find in life, rather than people that you’re just comfortable with.
“There are certain actors and artists who want to be a certain kind of actor or certain kind of artist, and I’m really not like that. I have very much fallen into every situation, every creative and not creative experience, that I have delved into, based on gut. Therefore true regret can never eat at me.”
I mean, I love L.A. I love living here. But I wish that we could make things without the need to hit a home run every single time. It’s a unique thing to Hollywood that if you don’t do that every time, then you’re considered a failure. But it’s like, ‘Well, are you making movies to be successful? Or are you making movies to learn something?’
“There’s so much I…it’s amazing how quickly people change in this business. There was one guy who’d never been on a movie set before. And after just three days, he was holding out his water bottle and waiting for someone to take it. Three days. Some people just have it in them.”
The world is a pretty cruel place, so whatever inspires people to suddenly feel this kindness, hopefully they’ll look at themselves and they’ll look at their own lives and realize, [awestruck, Eureka-moment voice] ‘I have the ability to empathize with people!’
