dreams come true

My engagement ring is a replica of the ring Mamoru gives Usagi. My fiance knows nothing about the show other than my love for it and all things Sailor Moon. He got this made for me.

I keep sharing this because I keep being utterly amazed at the thoughtfulness and the fact that the person I’m going to marry not only respects my love of anime and manga, but went out of his way to make me “Sailor Moon” (as he put it)

In 2013, Sa’fyre Terry was severely burned in an arson fire that killed her siblings and father, who died while covering her with his body.

Recently, the now 8-year-old told her family the only present she wanted was Christmas cards and that she “couldn’t wait” to fill up a thrift store Christmas tree stand with them.

A family friend posted her wish to social media, and hundreds of thousands of cards, letters, and packages arrived from those affected by her story, including $388,000 in donations for her care.

In one of those packages was the favorite teddy bear of a 5-year-old boy in Hong Kong, who sent it to Sa'fyre with a note that said “Let’s be friends.” The family is sending the teddy bear back to him along with a “friend” so the bear doesn’t get lonely on the long trip.

She’s also received gifts and messages from Michael Buble, Tim Allen (The Santa Claus himself!) the Boston Celtics, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the St. Louis Cardinals, as well as the casts and crews of NCIS: Los Angeles and The Vampire Diaries.

If you’d like to send a card to Sa’fyre, address it to:

Princess Tiana and Miss Lane were reunited yesterday. Lane brought her favorite princess a basket of yummy beignets, and Tiana brought Lane a beautiful floral slipper. It was a fairytale dream come true

A piece done for the Dream in Color charity artbook.

This is a non-profit charity art book project, all profits go to the Dreams Come True Charity. They serve to bring joy to seriously and terminally ill children along with other young people who lives in suffering to make their dreams come true.

A few weeks before painting this, I had a dream about a lonely little beach — the bones of animals would erode and eventually grow into shining crystals. I didn’t want to make this painting too macabre for obvious reasons, but that dream was the original inspiration for this. :)

If you’d like to donate or help support the art book’s cause, take a look at the StoreEnvy page:
