Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and Bookish. Every week (on Tuesday) they post a different topic and we create a list. This Tuesday’s is the: Top Ten Characters Who Remind Me Of Myself Or Someone I Know In Real Life.

This week, Meli and I decided to split the list 50/50 so she has five and I have five and this is what we got:

Lizzie Nichols from Queen of Babbles by Meg Cabot

She is one funny-romance seeking-messed-up girl but I couldn’t pick anybody else but her to represent me. Her overthinking-ness that creeps into her day to day life which further complicates anf sometimes helps her situation. She is honestly a character I love to this day…despite her little inability to keep a secret.

Sarah Moorehouse from Sleepless at Midnight by Jacquie D’Alessandro

The plain girl who’s a real jewel after all. Now while she seems mousy and sweet. She rather keep a low profile and not get people to notice her because she refuses to believe that she is THAT pretty, my good friend N is pretty much Sarah Moorehouse in a nut shell and like N, Sarah just wants to find somebody to love her and to accept her as who she is.

Blue Bailey from Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

So this character reminds me a lot of our HG of Dreaming with Ink: Samii, tough, hates dramatic situations, not easy to say those 3 magical words and a real stunner to anyone who meets her. I chose Blue also mainly because of the scene when she caught her boyfriend cheating on her and instead of crying about it, she put up her fist and gave a mean right hook hahahah good times.

Dexter Jones from This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen

So he’s persistent and random and clumsy and just overall a good time. I remember when I read this book I couldn’t stop smiling at his attempts and nonsensicalness and I’m impressed at how Remy was able to resist this lovable lug. Through him I saw my friend Sasha (the same Sasha on this blog) if I need nonsense she’s who I go to and it always puts a smile on my face.

Chelsea Ross from Nothing But Trouble by Rachel Gibson

When she has a plan in mind she will not back down, despite the headings of her dear sister this girl only wants to listen to her feelings and options and let anything else follow afterwards. There is only person I can think of who fits this persona and her name is A, she likes change and likes to standout with her relentless helping hand, like our dear Chelsea…too bad for both ladies the sun doesn’t always shine down on them.

Katie Sandfordfrom Spin by Catherine McKenzie
I chose this character for myself because at the time that I was reading it my first thought of her was “That is so me!”. I wanted to be a journalist for a music magazine and I’m partial to red heads. She also took up running, and I LOVE to run.

Angel Face from Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

Angel Face is that really loyal character (portrayed by the lovely Jared Leto in the film) in Fight Club that gets beat up by our narrator because he was jealous of the attention and praise he was getting from Tyler. Angel Face reminds me of my friend,K, because of her extreme loyalty, it bothers some people sometimes but heyyy what can you do?

Tristran Thorn from Stardust by Neil Gaiman

Tristran’s whole adventure starts when he tells the girl he likes he’ll get her a piece of that fallen star to prove his love. This need to show how far you’re willing to go for a crush or someone you love reminds me of my friend, J. It’s kind of cute sometimes watching him plan something for who ever he’s dating.

Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter series by J K Rowling

Luna’s soft spoken voice and wild imagination reminds me of my friend, A. They’re both very kind people, good listeners, and both of them have a very open view of the world. It’s quite interesting listening to her talk.

Naomi “Nomi” Nickel from A Complicated Kindness by Miriam Toews

I associate Nomi with Rebellion, and when my friend C had enough, she went down a very similar path of rebellion. I think a lot of teenagers go through that rebellion stage but as I read Nomi’s story, there was always something about her that reminded me of C that I havent been able to place my finger on.

Till next time~!
Happy Reading!

An Update!?

What’s that?! A wild DREAMING WITH INK POST appeared!

Okay. Pokemon aside.

Hello… been a while hasn’t it? It’s a long epic story but I’ll spare you the details and summarize it for you.

The Dreaming With Ink fellowship were journeying through the lands of Writer’s Block when the horrid monsters Procrastination, Laziness and Damaged Laptop attacked Sam. The rest of the Fellowship then decided to wait until their comrade recovered before continuing on their quest.

I apologize for disappearing. As Head Girl, I should have written this sooner but life got in the way… Oh, and the fact that I no longer have a working laptop added to my disappearance from the interwebz. Le sigh. It’s a good thing I’m not dependent on having Internet but it still sucks when your muse suddenly decides to be active and you can’t do anything about it. Who knew it’d be so hard to find lined-paper in this house?! Enough rambling though, I’m happy to say that we’re back and will be up and running by next week!

I can’t speak for the rest of the Dreaming With Ink fellowship, but I’m doing well (recovering from a brutal cold and suffering through allergy season). I’m seriously lacking good books to read (all the ones I’ve picked up so far haven’t been able to keep my attention) and my end of spring/beginning of summer has been pretty… hectic? Blah.

((In non-book related news… Meli and I went to the advance screening of the movie BRAVE. I have to say it’s one of the best movies I saw this year (not that I’ve seen a lot of them but still, it’s up there with The Avengers for me)! It’s so cute and aw-inducing. Oh, and Merida’s hair? AWESOME. I’m so jealous.))

How has everyone been? What books have you been reading? How’s your summer so far?

Hope everything is well!
Again, I apologize for the disappearing act.

I’ll make sure there’s a warning if there’s another battle in the lands of Writer’s Block.

Till Next Time~!

Setting the Path to Our New Adventure

Like any quest, it starts with an idea, then a goal is set, plans are made, and a fellowship is born.

(I know. I know. I’m being a little cheesy here but bare with me… these things happen when I’m lacking sleep and got a few too many bars of chocolate into my system.)

Joining the Book Blogging community seems like a great place to start our search for good books and new friends and so here we are. I’m sitting in the dark typing away, when really, I should be heading to sleep because I have work in the morning. But hey, the former insomniac in me is protesting any further delay for this launch and I know if I want to get any good sleep tonight, this has to get done!

You can expect some nonsense here, it happens when any combination of the four of us come together, especially in public, sometimes it can be downright insane and occasionally face-palm-I-don’t-know-these-people worthy (take this as a warning, and don’t say we didn’t ever tell you).

Besides our craziness, you can expect us to be joining in on the book memes floating around in the community and maybe start our own! Two reviews should be up every week and Fridays are our Free For All, when we talk about whatever tickles our fancy that week.

All of us here love to share, inspire and just generally be silly together and we want to be able to do that with you! Soooo, we hope you’ll stick around and share your experiences, inspire and be silly with us too! Over time, we hope to get to know you like you’ll get to know us

See you around~!

Meet the Prefects!

HeadGirl, Ravenclaw

Keeping this short and sweet, I’m a former insomniac and an avid reader, writer, artist and eater (yes, that’s right. Eater). I go through books like candy and as a child it was both a blessing and a curse for my parents (books can get pricey especially if a person can go through two, three-hundred plus page novels in a span of 24 hours). I remember once, I think I was 9-years-old, I told my parents I’d live in a bookstore and now, I work at one (happy times :D )! I’m sometimes blunt and sarcastic and for some reason can come across as “tough” but I’ll have you know I’m probably one the BIGGEST cowards in the world haha. I can’t watch horror movies, look clowns in the eye, and I’ll proudly say I’ll lose in a fight against a tiny spider. I hope to make some friends here in the book-blogging community and discover books I probably wouldn’t have read without some outside influence! :D

Prefect, Hufflepuff

Welcome to all curious eyes out there!!!
My name is Melissa and one of the co-operators of Dreaming With Ink; I won’t bore you with too many details about myself except that you all should know that I am one hyper chick with a knack for romance and a love for sweets (and I’m not just talking about the candy either hahahaha; I’ll let you ponder on that one). I do enjoy reading and I normally like my books to have a happy ending or as happy as it can get… if that makes sense. When you read my reviews, I will try to incorporate some humour (any type of humour) just because I love to keep things light and moving and my hoping my quest for the ultimate-gasping-suspensful-outrageous book has begun!

This blog has been a little dream/project in the making for us for a while and its really great that it’s about  to launch off. Also, it gives me a great excuse to stalk up on some new material and really get my library to blossom.

Prefect, Yet to be sorted

I’m 21 year old Sasha Blue and amongst a numerous amount of other addictions (just kidding… :]) somewhere along the line, I’ve had to add books to the list. It helps that I want to be a published author one day and dream of rolling around in the millions I will make (again… kidding). I am no J.K Rowling. She is clearly awesome whereas I am an awkward smile. Not to mention that rolling around in money sounds lovely and awful at the same time (imagine all the paper cuts?). I love words. Caffeine. Music. Fashion. Marlon Brando. Community (that show. Obviously) & probably a ton of other stuff that I can’t think of at the moment.

I’m here to write about the good books that I’ve read. Bad books too. Why I hate ‘em and why I love ‘em. I’m a bit of a spoiler, so you’ve been warned.

Prefect, Gryffindor

I like to read.

Why else would I be writing for this blog?

Come on people, get with the program!

Anyways, joking aside, I’m a professional procrastinator and my life goals take a backseat once placed in front of a computer with internet access. This does not make me a hermit however, since I am usually a beautiful social butterfly fluttering away… Whether or not my social interactions are good or bad, however, is debatable but is usually related to how early I wake up that day. (For the denser among you it’s a nicer way of saying: do not talk to me before I’ve had my morning coffee.)

With that said, I hope you all enjoy this blog my friends and I have put together, and have as much fun reading it as we are creating it! Happy reading everyone!
