dread father

The Dark Brotherhood worships and reveres the Dread Father Sithis and the Void, with the Unholy Matron, the Night Mother, being his bride.

When someone performs the Black Sacrament, the Night Mother is informed of their intentions, and the location of the client is relayed to the Listener, who then relays that information to the four Speakers. The Speakers then assign assassins to the contracts to be completed.

Together, the Listener and the Speakers form the Black Hand, the ruling body of the Dark Brotherhood: four fingers and a thumb.

Silencers are assassins who are not bound to any sanctuary and answer directly to the Speakers. They perform particularly dangerous or sensitive contracts and missions, and are akin to the nails or talons of the Black Hand.

The Keeper is a special position instituted by the Black Hand in the event of the Night Mother’s death. The Keeper is charged with taking care of the Night Mother’s corpse to preserve her body and retain her spirit on Tamriel, so she can continue to accept contracts and relay information to the Listener.

The Dark Brotherhood

There is a guild of assassins that operates across Tamriel known as the Dark Brotherhood. Some believe them to be a myth, while others know and fear them greatly. They kill in the name of the Night Mother and the Dread Father Sithis. The Night Mother was the wife of Sithis, who bore him five children, and sacrificed each in his name. She now leads the Dark Brotherhood in spirit form. Sithis is considered the same being as Padomay, also known as the Void, the Darkness, or the primordial force of change–one of two beings who created everything that is.

The Brotherhood is run by the Black Hand, with four Speakers as the four fingers, and the Listener as the thumb. Anyone in Tamriel who wants someone dead, but doesn’t feel up to doing the dirty work can pray to the Night Mother with their murderous wish. The Night Mother communicates to the Listener, who in turn communicates to the Speakers. The Speakers then decide how to carry out the Night Mother’s word. Each Speaker has their own Silencer, who kill as directed and without question. Silencers are considered the nails or claws on the Black Hand.

Like any guild, there are a set of rules, known as the Five Tenets, that the Brotherhood follow. They are:

  • Tenet 1: Never dishonor the Night Mother. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  • Tenet 2: Never betray the Dark Brotherhood or its secrets. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  • Tenet 3: Never disobey or refuse to carry out an order from a Dark Brotherhood superior. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  • Tenet 4: Never steal the possessions of a Dark Brother or Dark Sister. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.
  • Tenet 5: Never kill a Dark Brother or Dark Sister. To do so is to invoke the Wrath of Sithis.

It is similar to a religion or a cult in the way they worship Sithis and follow the Night Mother, but the impelling factor linking all Dark Brotherhood members together is their fascination and love for killing. One may be recruited as a Dark Brother or Sister if the Brotherhood becomes aware of one’s murderous nature. It is not uncommon to receive a mysterious letter or be visited in the night by a shadowy figure after killing an innocent in Tamriel. The Brotherhood sees all.

(a mysterious note)

Ahhh I nearly achieved a perfect Sacrament contract tonight!! I didn’t alert the whole hideout, I got out before the overseer arrived, didn’t get seen assassinating the target AND destroyed the antique flute thing… But I didn’t have any poison. And the Speaker wanted me to kill him with poison. The poison I did not have. The poison I needed to accomplish a perfect Sacrament contract… *screaming into the Void*

The Last Burn

“The casting must be poured in no more than four seconds, do you understand me, Felo’thore?” boomed the voice of his father. A towering man of rose-golden hair tied neatly behind his square shoulders, looming over the fifteen year old boy as he fumbled with the tools in front of him. “Felo’thore!” Rhandelen Emberfell roared his son’s name, clenching the boy’s scrawny shoulder with his cowhide gloves and turning him for his attention. “Stop fooling around and prepare the mold, boy.”

“Yes, sir.” squeaked Felo’thore anxiously. He was unlike any Emberfell before him in that he dreaded every day his father forced him to work in the forge. The artisan merchant house the family once was had fallen thin, with it’s only hope of surviving on Rhandelen teaching his two sons the trade. The importance of such heritage was difficult for an adolescent boy to understand and his father’s method of teaching did not help his confusion. Felo’s hands trembled as he clumsily unbolted the two halves of the steel mold they had been preparing to cast a blade in. Rhandelen watched his every move with critical, icy eyes, a permanent scowl stretching for miles on his lips. To say the man was frustrated with the boy was an understatement and his patience had grown extremely thin. It was difficult for him to rationalize how his other son seemed to regurgitate his techniques in the forge, yet his twin brother, struggled so much.

“You’re wasting time! Watch the oven; don’t let the slag settle for so long!”

Felo’thore’s thick little brows furrowed, unscrewing the last bolt and rasping nervously, “I’m going as fast as I can, father!”

“Talk back to me again, boy, and I will have you cleaning out the soot pan before dinner!”

I’m here for the people that dread mother’s/father’s day because they doubt their parents love them, or because they abuse you, or even if they just don’t love their parents. No one should feel obligations/guilt/pressured into loving someone they don’t. Especially if that someone is hurting them, damnit.

everyone is going to reprimand them for not “loving their parents unconditionally!! They’ve done so much for you!!” And basically guilt them into hugging them and doing stuff that makes them uncomfortable. That is emotional manipulation, don’t force someone into doing things they don’t want to do.

I made another post with the same theme, don’t force people into doing things they don’t want to do (in regards to social situations) and it got much more notes, which I think meant that they have experienced it before. Which is really, truly sad.

This is fuckign important. Emotional manipulation is more common than you’d like to think. You can’t force someone to love/do something they simply /don’t/ just so it makes YOU feel better.
