I was trying to think of a way to do comparison shots when it dawned on me that I could do this hah. For the most part he’s based directly off the in-game model but I did make modifications accounting for his being over a decade older than he’d have been in act 1 and, well, for how much I prefer his concept art to his in game model.
Look at that, he’s so done with everything. Fantastic.
But yes, while the basic face shape was formed using refs of his DA2 mesh, his eyes (which I made smaller and shifted up a few stops, they looked a bit off when you pushed the sliders too far thanks to the new, smaller irises anyway), brows (my apologies to the DA2 caterpillars but every DA:I alternative made him look perpetually surprised) and ear/cheek shape (moved both up a little and made the cheekbone more prominent) were based on that illustration. Also the stubble, there’s a trace amount of that on him too because I’m weak.
Confession: I’m sad that there’s no big, dramatic scene in which you can say final words to your companions right before the big battle in DA:I. That was one of my favorite things about the first two games.
