[Venture Bros Spoilers - On Wide Whale]

OKAY SO.

First, I want to say how brilliant the twist with Whale’s offer was. Like, they’d been setting us up to think he was propositioning something sexual since Dragon*Con… and with specifically-Sheila, I’d have been kind of okay with that. Yes, it would have been gross and skeevy, etc, but… It has been previously established that she sleeps with other people sometimes, that she’s the sort of person who doesn’t view sex as necessarily super intimate. So that could have been interesting, though mostly as contrast to virtually any other female character put in such a position. Looking at the external conflict value, it could have gotten under the Monarch’s skin, sure… but he also could have begrudgingly accepted it. Mild pouting and catty remarks but tolerating, you know?

Instead, it was less uncomfortable for the audience in the long run. …But for the characters? IT WAS SO, SO MUCH WORSE.

Giving away his arching rights– and without even talking to him first– that’s basically the ultimate act of betrayal between them. As @yourqueenbutterfly said while we were discussing it, “he hates Rusty as much as he loves Sheila”. Like hey anyone who’s been following me more than a few days knows there is nothing I ship more than Monarch a Trois (Monarch/Sheila/Gary for those who haven’t seen the ship name before), but honestly??? Objectively speaking here, at the moment? I’d definitely agree Rusty is more highly ranked on his Most Important People/Relationships list than Gary is.

I assume we’ll get the “makeup sex?” scene next episode, but you know that won’t be the end of it. This is… This is huge.

Moving on, YQB called my attention to reddit posing the question: could Hank’s new interest be Whale’s daughter? It seems probable! Both have aquatic animal features (I mean she’s got gills and he’s got a blow hole so????? Idk how that works but it’s interesting) and they were in the same building.

But that. got me thinking.

What if she’s not the only relative of his we’ve seen?

What if he’s related to Dr. Dugong? WHAT IF THIS WHOLE THING- WHALE’S APPARENT VENDETTA AGAINST THE MONARCH THIS SEASON- IS REVENGE FOR KILLING HIM?

It would almost be rehashing Hatred’s vendetta for the henchmen stealing his stuff all those years, but that sort of fizzled out, so I’d like to call it precedence (not that it would be needed with as dedicated as this show is to continuity anyway) and imagine this will be sort of the same basic premise but taken Up To Eleven instead.

I’m so excited and just… Yes I’m incredibly biased because Tears of a Sea Cow is probably my favorite non-special episode but I really hope this is a thing. :”3
