Next to Normal headcanon where Dr Madden was training to be a medical doctor in a hospital and on his first day in the hospital he had to tell a mother that her 18 month old son had died. This mother was Diana. He’s never forgotten her.
It was the hardest thing he’s ever had to do, and he couldn’t handle it so he dropped out the next day and decided to become a psychologist.
And ended up being Diana’s psychologist.
Dr. Madden: “Look, you little shithead. You want the truth? Here’s the truth: life sucks. It’s full of disappointments and failures, and it’s much, much too long. But on a day to day basis, I’d say it beats the alternative.”
